So first and foremost. I have no idea what the video at the start of the tekkit page is trying to tell me. I tried its steps and I suck, so that's that. What I need on this Post is a professional who is willing to help us all. So, if someone would be so kind as to show us how to make a Custom Zip and play it on a server, that would be amazing.

Rules;

1. Show step by step instructions for newbs like me.

2. Maybe make a zip file so others can try your modded tekkit lite.

3. Show how to play the custom zips in a server.

4. Show what can and cannot be done.

5. Everyone must thank the genius that decides to help us/me.

I hope someone can come through for us. Because I know a lot of people who have no idea what they are doing, like me. Thank you all very much.

Tbh i dont think anyone really knows how to do this. I keep having the issue of nothing happening. I put the link in and my launcher justs sits there at 0% custom zip extracting.

Then it just starts no problem, but theres also no mods.

Ive ran some tests and it works for other people. Just not me

Do a clear cache first, then try again.

Also found its much easier to build the mod pack on client machine than server.

I am successfully built a custom.zip for Mo Creatures.

- went to %appdata%.techniclaunchertekkitlite

- Gui pack installed into bin/modpack.jar

- added Additional Mobs and main Mo Creature zip files to mods (DO NOT USE BUKKIT VERSION)

Created a zip file.

added two folders in zip bin and mods

added modpack.jar to bin folder

added the two new zip files to mods folder

Uploaded the new zip file zip file to my web site of my private server.

Users enter the URL with the http:// as custom, pack, have the click clear cache for good measure.

and it works :) my daughter is SO happy playing with her friends on line with Mo Creatures.

So you distribute the minecraft.jar (whatever it happens to be named) with your modpack?

is this for tekkit lite or for the Custom pack? I'm still pretty confused, and am surprised that the Technic pack team haven't made a detailed guide.

they did, it's a youtube video that is linked in the post about custom zips on the front page. super hidden, I know.

yes I've seen that, but many people like me like reading instructions too, it's not detailed enough

Anybody have any idea how updates to custom zips are handled? Would I just need to alter the existing zip so the URL stays the same, or would I have to tell my players use an alternate URL in order to use an updated custom zip?

well, enough for me not to understand it.

*edit* don't say i'm retarded, i'm clearly literate *edit*

obviously not since I just asked you a direct question and you did not answer it, instead declaring your literacy. so tell me, what wasn't explained in the video? what part wasn't gone over?

it will redownload the zip if you update it, as far as I know. so keeping the URL the same is the easiest way to go about things.

i found it to be very simple in making a custom mod pack, although i made one from cratch using the tekkit lite jars (will make our own soon) if you wish to see the full zip it can be downloaded here http://www.eoemc.com/mainforum/page/1/m/3214761/viewthread/5514385-for-modded-server-custom-mod-pack-instructions-info to give you guys an example of a full mod pack

all these mods where selected by hand and put together by us, this is a completely different version from tekkit or tekkit lite and has all the up to date mods

THIS IS FOR TEACHING PURPOSES ONLY AND IS NOT MENT AS AN ADVERTISEMENT AS THE CLIENT PACK WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT OUR SERVER PACK WHICH I AM NOT POSTING HERE

Hello everyone,

I have an issue with this custom zip. I followed the directions in the video but it doesnt work exactly as he said. I have a folder for Coremods, Mods, and Config. I went through the steps and it installs a fresh install of Tekkit Lite, but when it gets to my mod pack, it installs it into a folder of what I named the mod pack zip file. So it just installs the name of the mod pack into the main directory of the launcher. Its called Stark Reloaded and it also installed the _MACOSX directory as well. Please Help. example.jpg

CapitalE, I had this problem too, you probably zipped up the folder that *contains* /coremods and /mods in it, instead of zipping up just those folders in a zip.

the way to check this is after you zip it, open it up in winRar or winZip and you should see /coremods and /mods folders at top level, NOT another folder between top level & those.

For example in your case you need

StarkReloaded.zip

which has in it:

/coremods

/coremods/GuiAPI-0.15.2-1.4.6.jar

/mods

/mods/CustomMobSpawner 1.10.zip

/mods/DrZharks MoCreatures Mod v4.4.0.zip

instead you probably have

StarkReloaded.zip

which has in it:

/StarkReloaded/coremods

/StarkReloaded/coremods/GuiAPI-0.15.2-1.4.6.jar

/StarkReloaded/mods

/StarkReloaded/mods/CustomMobSpawner 1.10.zip

/StarkReloaded/mods/DrZharks MoCreatures Mod v4.4.0.zip

(obviously my example is for Mo' Creatures mod and not for your stuff)

if you are doing this right already, then I'm going to guess it could be a bug with Mac + Technic custom mod pack loader install feature- you might get a friend on windows to help you debug it, by loading your client mod pack.

Also note, if anyone is using this to install MoCreatures, since 0.5.3 when they updated to forge 499 it doesn't work.. so you have to stay on 0.5.2 until Mo Creatures is updated for forge 499

oh and thank you Ralph_Anthony for providing the only *written example i've seen of the file structure to use. Very helpful for those of us who don't really get it from the videos (or who can't watch videos at, say, work......)

I had the absolute worst time with a file on Dropbox, which I thought was odd because Dropbox was the service suggested in the video. Did the same thing, stuck at 0%. The log had some error with the archive, saying it was invalid or corrupt. (Probably because it wasn't downloading.)

After trying about six other online file hosting sites (all of which required captchas or used .php links to retrieve the file, which didn't work...) I ended up having to dump it on a webserver I had access to so I could generate a direct link to the .zip. That fixed all my problems right there.

Yep figured that out a while ago.

Thanks though. Im sure it will help alot of people. Nice simple video too. Definitely way easier to comprehend then the one the technic guys posted, lol.

No problem!!! I'm trying to link the video to as many people that are having problems as possible! Because I did try the video the technic guy posted and it didn't work for me and was kind of confusing!

I'm amused that you consider a 12 minute video on copy/pasting files and resolving block ID conflicts that features you doing it wrong on camera and tons of rambling less confusing than the original custom zips tutorial.
