O yea I've tried setting out to 2 or3 GB abd it keeps shutting down

Crash reports or launcher logs.  Without one of those, your post is useless.  Even with one, it would help if you posted more about your installation/system.

When you install 64-Bit java you have to make sure that the default Java you are using is the 64-bit one.
There is no reason for windows 64-bit to not run a 64-bit java.But it depends on which you installed first. Try uninstalling all previous java versions/ java related stuff in your computer and then install the 64-bit one. Then windows will recognize only the 64-bit java and it won't be confused to choose one of them. Of course you can also assign the 64-bit java location to the launcher but the first option is much easier, at least for some guys.
