When you install 64-Bit java you have to make sure that the default Java you are using is the 64-bit one.
There is no reason for windows 64-bit to not run a 64-bit java.But it depends on which you installed first. Try uninstalling all previous java versions/ java related stuff in your computer and then install the 64-bit one. Then windows will recognize only the 64-bit java and it won't be confused to choose one of them. Of course you can also assign the 64-bit java location to the launcher but the first option is much easier, at least for some guys.
