  1. honestly, what's the difference? I meant, tekkit is just vanilla + more right? Why can't they just play tekkit like vanilla? I've never understood this when people who love vanilla minecraft say they don't like tekkit or any modpack (but they play with bukkit plugins?) seems that if you don't like a mod, and your friend does, just play on the same server, and don't play with that mod...
  2. I don't know anything about the creatures inside the dimensions, but it seems that the doors can lead to any dimension already on the server (the moon, the nether, mystcraft ages, etc.)
  3. Well, he COULD ban chunkloaders, but keep, say, dimensional anchors, which seem to be more configurable, including limiting the chunks a play can load, requiring fuel, allowing that fuel to be pumped or not, etc. (FYI, chunkloaders and Dimensional Anchors are both in tekkit, and are two different blocks.)
  4. interesting, I've never used frames, but the MFFS stuff seems simple. And, yeah, AE definitely makes it easy. Get enough storage, and busses to import and export in the right places, and your good to go, no worry about overflow. You do kinda miss the nice visual of all the blocks going through the tubes/pipes though. Sleeping btw, just sets your home to coordinates, so no luck there (put a bed on the mining platform).
  5. Yeah, I can use a linking book, or /home to get back to my base. Getting to the bore is the tricky part wow the bore using mffs for movement, or wow asking about teleportation?
  6. So, I've created a tunnel bore, following this, albeit much bigger (mines 115 blocks at a time). However, I can't seem to find any feasible form of teleportation in tekkit. there is no thaumcraft that the author used to automate the mystcraft books, and it seems that using dimensional doors actually results in a dupe bug (seems that if you try to move a dim door with MFFS power manipulators, the original dim door doesn't move, and instead a vanilla iron door is spawned and moved instead). While I haven't tried mystcraft portals, presumably, they don't work either. Wondering if there is anything else I can try?
  7. only kinda. It's more because of issues I've experienced in the past using phased pipes, and how much nicer tesseracts have been to me I do think that they shouldn't have a max capacity, especially if they cost a percentage. I ME busses wherever possible, and only use BC pipes to move items to a chest to be sucked into my ME network, so I've never messed with gates.
  8. you can configure the tesseracts in the server config files (single or multi-player), changing both the tesseract loss, and the max output.
  9. tried seeds. Wheat seeds, pumpkin seeds, melon seeds, even nether wart (mentioned as breeding them in the minecraft wiki). Even posted a thread in the forums here asking about it, and couldn't get it working (and didn't really get any replies either ). the breeder didn't use any of them at all, and when I did it manually I could breed all the chickens. Guess they just don't like me. as for animals: keep the chunks loaded (dimensional anchor) and, I had the same issue, came back after leaving the world on over night, and I was swimming in animals. Added an outer layer of fence to the pens, and haven't had a single one escape. They still trample each other, but that's their problem
  10. I've had the best luck digging out the dirt in caves, usually reveals ores. Also, if you need diamonds, don't forget that tekkit has EE 3, and you can transmute 8 iron to 1 gold, and 4 gold to 1 diamond. (using the minium stone)
  11. I hear where you are coming from, but a few things to keep in mind: 1. I have heard that tesseracts output a max of 100 MJ PER SIDE 2. if this is your server, you can configure the tesseracts to have a higher output or less loss 3. tesseracts are more convenient than phased pipes, in that you can name the frequency (much nicer than trying to remember what number is what, especially with liquids, when you have 2 frequencies for every liquid)
  12. I found this out the hard way. Fill your breeder with carrots, not wheat. Yes, the wiki says to use wheat in spite of the changes to vanilla breeding, but do it anyway. Also, I could never get the breeder to work with chickens, no matter what I put in it.
  13. 1. It doesn't really matter does it? The tekkit team has pretty much stated that IC2 and RP2 are NOT going back in. 2. Yes it does. Enriched slag using the induction smelter. 3. How? If you have a steady stream being processed in parallel, how is that not comparable to small peaks of material at a faster rate? I use an array of pulverizers and furnaces, each dedicated to a single ore. Automated with Applied Energistics, they are all done being processed and stored as ingots by the time I get back from a mining run. If that's the case, why would I care if it took 10 minutes per ore, when 3 are done in parralel, compared to 5 minutes per ore one at a time? They are all done regardless and I don't notice the difference. If you really want to smelt faster, use an induction furnace with sand to speed up the time. ALSO, I do believe (and I think I'll be corrected if wrong), that KingLemming has stated plans for adding upgrades of a sort to Thermal Expansion.
  14. Probably because a lot of videos of "tekkit" are older, and thus what was once "tekkit" is now "tekkit classic". This seems to cause a lot of confusion. Personally, I'd suggest looking at tutorials for specific mods. The mod list can be found on the official wiki here. The wiki is also really informative as to how to utilize items and blocks in tekkit, and seems to be getting updated regularly.
  15. Work fine for me. I use liquiducts and tesseracts, both going in and out. However, I DON'T have a bottom layer of all liquiducts. Look at the first post, and the one with 9 liquiducts per layer. I am using that with no issues.
  16. I used that technique for my liquid storage, and it works really well (especially since I don't have room for tanks). What issue are you having exactly? Not filling, can't pump it out, etc. ?
  17. ah, yeah, that makes sense. I read that was the case, as the whither skeleton isn't a seperate mob from the skeleton (by default, seems that spawning a normal mob costs 15 mob essence, and spawning an exact copy uses 50. A grinder produces ~10 per mob I believe)mB I'd guess, but I'm not positive.
  18. it also has awesome features like auto-ejecting items out a side, or automatically outputting liquids into attached pipes/liquiducts without needing pumping or anything. And, being configurable? Awesome! I remember the pain of trying to get redpower tubes and IC2 machines to play nicely. IC2 had hardcoded sides and could make machine placement awkward.
  19. my challenge I'm currently working on is kinda fun. I'm creating an entire self-sufficient base all withing 3x3 chunks. A tower from bottom to top (easier with the flat bedrock). All wired with an ME network and power, and making all of my farms, and factories, automation, etc. fit within that. Pretty neat so far.
  20. Sorry, I meant vanilla mob spawner, vs. auto-spawner
  21. I'd start here (the official tekkit wiki) for a list of the mods, and then go here for a list of replacements for mods you may be use to from tekkit classic. That said, as a more specific answer, the items you mention are from EE2 (Equivalent Exchange 2) and it has been replaced with EE3, which is still in development, and consists of the minium stone (philosophers stone with durability) and some transmutations using it. While I think that the new tekkit is pretty awesome (Applied Energistics is simply the best mod I've ever used), if you want to play the older tekkit, it is available in the tekkit launcher under "tekkit classic"
  22. sure. It was just a suggestion Good luck finding people to play some tekkit with. The new tekkit really is pretty awesome.
  23. no, they do. I was asking for an alternative, as I am not a big fan of buildcraft engine, or of having engine attached directly to things (as opposed to using conductive pipes/conduit). it just looks kludgy. Also,I have limited space (I'm making everything in a 3x3 chunk, so everything has to be as compact as possible. Most cable are hidden in walls and floors. It'd be a lot of extra work to get everything need to power an obsidian pipe, engines, fuel, cooling, etc. and not worth the risk). ALSO, my understanding is that obsidian pipes suck in cone in front of them, so it'd be difficult to get one to cover a 5x5 square.
  24. yeah, that's my understanding of spawners :/ but, the auto-spawner is pretty neat. Did exactly that with a pink slime, used an embiggening syringe, and put it in an auto-spawner. Same with a blaze. with blaze rods and pink slime balls being pretty rare, I now have thousands of both. (I know getting enough pink slime for a bucket-full was a big pain)
