  1. First of all - relax. This is a forum for the discussion of ideas. Not all of them are going to line up with yours. This is understood - or ought to be when entering a discussion. This is also a topic of opinions which makes this topic even more fluid. There are no rights or wrongs when discussing opinions. However, how one approaches a conversation can be said to be "right" or "wrong". Dismissing a whole group of people by engaging in the logical fallacy of ad hominem is "wrong" (read inappropriate) behavior on a forum. In this case calling a bunch of people who do not share your "opinion" as "haters" is not only inappropriate its poor argumentation. If you feel that the people who do not share your opinion about EE2 are "wrong" (and I don't know how that can be regarding what one finds enjoyable or not - IOW an opinion) then present logical arguments and refrain from name calling, please. edit - fixed typo
  2. As an addendum - I too have had problems on rare occassion where the power glove stops interacting with the invironment inspite of whatever "tool" is set. I am currently using the Energy Cell in the Hot Bar for my energy needs. I found that an easy fix is to just run the glove, which has no internal battery, through the Energetic Infuser which immediately rights to problem. Go figure. The Power Glove works fine after that. I offer this is a quick and easy work around.
  3. The name of the pipe you need to move item from your quarry to your chest(s) is called the "Itemduct" If you do not yet have an "Induction Smelter" machine you should make the "Opaque" version of the "Itemduct." If you do have the "Induction Smelter" and have the materials to make "Hardened Glass" you can make "Itemduct" - this version lets you see the materials moving through it. The name of the pipe you need to delete/destroy/permanently remove certain items from your mining quarry is called the "Void Transport Pipe"
  4. I was clearing out a quarry when I found this rising out of the bedrock. Apparently its called a "Water Spring" and its from BuildCraft. I've never seen anything like this before. It looks like it overrides the flat bedrock mod as the Water Spring is made from bedrock. I placed a cobblestone on the water part to remove it - but it didn't work. The game accepted me placing the cobblestone upon the raised bedrock, but when I removed the cobblestone the water block was right there!
  5. Did you know that you if want to use a BuildCraft Factory Pump to drain water from an area (like a quarry!) one must first change a setting in BuildCraft. First go to the config directory, open the BuildCraft folder and finally open a file called main.conf. A vanilla text editor will do. Change the setting on the right of the equals sign from false to true. Save the file. >Hat Tip to bochen415!! However, if oil is present you are in for major headaches. For whatever reason the BCF Pump sees all oil blocks, whether source or flowing, as irremovable water source blocks which when the water level gets to the appropriate level stops the level from dropping any further until the offending oil block/s is/are removed. The Pump that is draining water does not interact with the oil block/s and does not remove it/them like other water blocks when draining the quarry. So to reiterate - When draining water with a BCF Pump all oil in contact with water is treated as a water source block that cannot be pumped away. Since it seen to be acting as a water source block all the water around it acts as if this is so and thus stops the process until the oil blocks are removed or isolated.
  6. I did not mean to imply that you were doing anything wrong or foolish in my questions. I apologize if I sounded that way - not me intent. I was curious as to your reasoning in that I might gain insight. That's all. My "whys" were meant for learning purposes, not questions of motive. @jakalth - Quite an illuminating response! Thanks for enumerating so many possibilities. You did mention that there are yet more ways to farming sugar cane that hinted at something rather exotic. If you feel motivated I would be interested in learning about some of these other methods. @efflandt - I assume you meant "Planter" where you typed "Harvester" in your second sentence. You are correct in that one does not need a planter for sugar cane or cactus for that matter for the same reasons. There is no need to replant when the crop is harvest by the Harvester. Yet, all the documentation says the ability exists. I get it, its not needed if used with a Harvester. But what if one used a flood harvesting technique and wanted to use the heavily documented ability of the Planter to plant Sugar Cane. It doesn't really matter in this case. I just try and drop a big in the ear of the developers either to fix the problem or fix their documentation. Thanks everyone! Best
  7. No sarcasm. The real deal. I was very impressed! It was a very unique piece of creativity.
  8. That's too cool for school! I'd be curious to hear how you discovered that piece of trivia!!
  9. As indicated above, after discovering that despite the ability recorded in many wiki's that appear to be up to date(-ish) that the Planter from MFR is supposed to plant Sugar Cane were all wrong, I did find a workable solution. Don't use the Planter. As Digdug indicated and I alluded to in my update there really isn't a need for the Planter for plants that don't need to be replanted after they are harvested. I'm curious, why do you use multiple block breaking devices instead of a single MFR Harvester? Does it have to do with energy? IOW is using multiple pistons in early game much more feasable than an RF using machine like the Harvester? Or is it just a matter of taste? All my farms, mob experience harvesting areas, reactors, home base factories are force chunk loaded already. But I am always appreciative of solid, sound advise! Thank you! I've never looked at Steve's Carts. As I already have a working solution there's no real need, but It might be interesting to take the time to learn about anyway. Best
  10. Hello, I've perused several wiki's and boards trying to find out if Sugar Cane cane be auto farmed using the Planter. The Technic Forums indicate this is possible here. It was tagged as updeated as recently as June 7, 2014. Several other wiki's have all said this is possible. My experience with 1.2.9e says otherwise. I have just a minimal setup - 3x3 squares. I am using sand. The "farm" is surrounded by water. The Planter is powered and under a block of sand. I have 1 1/2 stacks of sugar cane in the inventory and have set the "planting pattern" to a ring pattern. One is prohibited from planting a sugar cane anywhere unless it is directly adjacent to water. I did this because I can't get water adjacent to the center square and wanted to forestall any potential problems. The planter, showing a full energy supply, does not plant any sugar cane. Am I doing something wrong? Best Update - the Harvester works and works intelligently. It only takes the middle portion of the sugar cane. It appears that sugar cane is not aided by the Fertilizer. Given this arrangement I just have to hand plant the field once and the harvesting is automatic yet the growth cycle is not accelerated. Still curious why my experience is in conflict with what's in the wiki's. Anyone else able to use the Planter with Sugar Cane?
  11. Did you know that by mousing over a fluid in the ME Fluid Terminal while NEI is open causes the lighting effect on the items in NEI to go from top lit to bottom lit? Did you know that the ME Fluid Level Indicators are treated as solid blocks when tying to use the Hollow Stone Cover from both Immibis and Forge Microblocks?
  12. Sorry about the lack of clarity! The Sphax Tekkit patch that is hosted on MediaFire kept trying to have me install a downloader to get the file. Turns out that when I clicked on the download button on the MediaFire site the file downloaded, but the information that it was blocked out by a window that popped up seeking permission to install a downloader so that I could get my file. When I clicked "no" the page closed and it looked like I didn't get my file. For some reason I decided to look in my download folder and there was the Sphax Texture file. Best
  13. Hello, Anyone know a way to get the texture pack without having to install the downloader? Best
  14. You are my hero!!!! For the win!!!!
  15. In the end I used a portable tank, which did the trick. Thanks for the suggestions everyone! edit - I forgot to add! I did try hunting for a steam florb using NEI but I couldn't find one. Do they exist and I just can't find them?
  16. Did you know quarrying in the ICE PLAINS biomes can crawl to a virtual stand still because if you are using water to deal with lava? Any still water blocks are susceptible to becoming ice blocks which then causes the quarry to pull all the way back to the surface to break the block and head back down. As the quarry gets near level 20 or so the time travel of the gantries back and forth can all but stall out any additional quarrying.
  17. That setting did the trick! Thank you so much! The other setting was so annoying that it made the game close to unplayable as the constant adjusting was awful! Soap and toilet paper for all my men! Huzzah!
  18. How does one indicate steam in the GUI for the Fluid Export Bus? HALP! Thank you!
  19. Hi Roversword, I THINK that ComputerCraft might be of some help. I THINK it has a sensor "device" that can read the "full/empty" status of inventories. Any more details on that you'd have to read up on. I've only had the most tangental experience with the mod, but I THINK I remember seeing a tutorial on youtube at one point supporting my recollection. I also know that BuildCraft has "Gates" that fit on their pipes that can sense a bewildering variety of statusus (statusi?) of a device adjacent to it. That might be able to tell if your tank if full and then send a redstone signal that you might then use to get a valve to change from one direction to another (e.g. your tank and a void pipe.) Upon a little more research BuildCraft does have the capacity, with their "Gates" to sense 4 states of a tank. Presumably it has to be one of theirs, but I don't know for certain. The can sense if a tank is empty, the tank has liquid in it (not empty) and can also be set to test if a specific fluid is in it, the tank has room in it (which can also be set up to sense for a specific fluid), and finally sense if the tank in question is full. BuildCraft does not APPEAR to have some sort of fluid gate switch of valve. However, as noted above, the proper Gate does set out a redstone signal, under the proper conditions (such as a full tank) which might be then used on a device from another mod which can act as a liquid valve that changes the flow of you fluid. That's the best I have to offer. I hope you can figure something out. If you do please post, I am curious what that solution might be! edit - There is a "Valve Pipe" from Additional BuildCraft Objects in Tekkit that pumps water out of a tank under a redstone signal. Presumably you can place a "Gate" upon this pipe which would be attached to your tank that would sense when the tank is full and pull out whatever fluid is in the tank and send it to a Fluid Void Pipe. Its a little bit clunky but it should do what you want!
  20. Hi jakalth! Your solution sounded so elegant I was going to employ it myself. I went looking for the "dense mode" on the fluiducts but I couldn't find anything. Itemducts support "dense mode", but from my research I couldn't find anything about there being a "dense mode" for fluiducts. I'd really like to use this, could you either leave a link explaining how this works or, if you are feeling magnanimous, load up a screen shot or two on how to do this. I fully admit my google-fu is weak so any help you have to offer would be deeply appreciated.
  21. Good to know. I'll check out the terms of use to make sure I won't make any more errors. I thought the rule meant "sig" bars and the like. It never occured to me that the rule referred to the social custom of closing with salutations. So much for not paying close attention! Thanks for the heads up!
  22. I tried 19 pieces of bone meal on the Stained Sapling while it was in the framework of the auto farm. Nothing happened other than I wasted all that bone meal! As noted above I tried bone meal while the Stained Sapling was part of the wheat farm. Nothing happened with 19 tries. I jury-rigged a single square auto farm with the cobblestone "upgrades" and the system worked! In as much as the tree grew at its own unaltered rate, it was auto planted, harvested when fully grown and all the pieces (wood and stained saplings) were collected. I didn't try bone meal in this arrangement so have no data on that topic. So here's the results - Unlinke vanilla minecraft trees, Stained Saplings will not grow in a mixed crop auto farm. A Stained Sapling will grow in a dedicated single color one square farm. Don't know if fertilizer works. Thanks for the help!! Off to build the blazing colored tree farm! Best, Jay
  23. OK! Just to make sure there are no bruised feelings, I did not mean to cast guilt upon any of the other posters. I did mean to offer a mea culpa for what can be thought of as improper behavior on my part. But I see that Digdug83 was not troubled - he's very easy going (I'm assuming that's a he behind that screen name!). I apologize to Curunir if I cast any aspersions upon you - not my intent. You are correct that you did bring relevant and useful information to the topic being discussed. Best, Jay
  24. Below is an image of the growing arrangements. A picture is worth a 1000 words, as is said, so perhaps this will give a better idea than my feeble describing skills! So you can see my sky space is clear. Am I too close to the structure? I can grow (and have grown) Stained Saplings on regular dirt. I just can't seem to get Stained Saplings to grow on the auto farm. I haven't tested vanilla Minecraft trees in this version, but I know in the previous version (1.5.2?) they could be auto farmed. Any thoughts? SirLappy, on 08 Aug 2014 - 12:05 AM, said: Yes, they should work just fine. I don't believe that water has any effect on trees, and personally dont use fertilizer so no comment on that part. mine grow at a typical rate, at least when I provide power to it. proof: my tree farm: I saw that and was pretty blown away. It looks awesome. I was thinking of shamelessly copying that design (giving proper credit if it came to it!) into my world, but I want to make sure I can auto farm the Stained Saplings before I began. Best, Jay
