Minecraft960 Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 So... As we all know, hamachi is a pain in the butt. Is there any other way to run a Tekkit server though? Surely there is a better way? Thanks
Forum Administrators sct Posted June 12, 2012 Forum Administrators Posted June 12, 2012 Nope. There is actually no other way. The only way to run a Tekkit server is through Hamachi. Sorry :smith:
Iscamania Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Depends... If it's a private server for only 2 or 3 people or so, you could turn off online mode. I recommend use the whitelisting feature if you do this. Just to be sure.
Minecraft960 Posted June 12, 2012 Author Posted June 12, 2012 Yeah right now its for me and 2 or 3 friends. Just turning of online mode would allow them to join?
xxmikegigsxx Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 I don't know what your problem with hamachi is. If it is a private server it works fine, I use it and plenty of people I know use it. If you do have a "big" problem with it why don't you use that crazy thing called Google? I mean all those servers in the server section aren't using hamachi, are they?
RadioHasNoFuture Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 port foreward? and why would offlinemode make sure you dont have to use hamachi?
The_DarthMoogle Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Nope. There is actually no other way. The only way to run a Tekkit server is through Hamachi. Sorry I have too much respect for this guy to determine whether today he has decided to be a total anus.
AlienX Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 You don't have to use offline mode. Port forward & stop using an annoying VPN service.
Chezzik Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 I have too much respect for this guy to determine whether today he has decided to be a total anus. I felt that way at first. But, this isn't a forum for discussing the basics of how to run a minecraft server. It is specifically for people with Tekkit issues. There seems to be more tolerance for stupid questions when they actually concern Tekkit.

Nah, there's no tolerance for stupid questions here, it's just that we realize that not every question is stupid. The ones that are though, are treated with contempt.
EightBitRanger Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Hamachi didn't always suck, until they drastically reduced the number of people you could have on the network in the free version. But like everyone else who was trying to be helpful said, just run a server and properly forward the ports, then give the people outside the network the public ip address, whereas you'll have to use the network ip address of the computer you're trying to connect to if its on the same LAN.
xida00 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Just remember to also configure your Firewall to allow people access via the selected port. Port forwarding alone wont allow people onto the server if you have a firewall running.
