Mac to Window Lan connection

I am playing on a MacBook Pro, running OSX Mavericks and my fiancee is running Windows 8.

My fiancee and I are trying to play together over LAN, (we are sitting right next to each other) but for some reason, I am unable to connect to any of her LAN worlds, but she is able to connect to mine.

When she hosts the LAN connection, I can see the LAN world, but the connection always times out.

I am confused as to why this is, and would like help figuring out what to do.

It is likely a firewall issue on the Windows system. Make sure any required ports are opened, or better yet, turn off the firewall when you are on your network.

what port(s) specifically does hekkit / technic use for LAN? (Is it that 25565 thing) and how would I verify that port i open since we are both running Webroot?
