Sehtey Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Hey, does anyone know how I can get Minecraft working with steam? It's just cos I wanna be able to talk in steam with minecraft because the overlay is nice ;3 Quote
Pandemoneus Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Open Steam -> Add Game -> Add 3rd party game -> Search -> Navigate to Minecraft -> Add And there you go. Quote
Jay? Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I'm pretty sure that won't enable the overlay, that'll just tell everyone that you're playing minecraft. A neat trick that you can do twith that is make a simple .bat file, and name it something like "StarCraft 3 Beta" and add it as a 3rd party game. Then occasionaly run it and watch people harass you about how you got it. Quote
The Merchant of Menace Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 The overlay works fine if you just add Minecraft to your game list. Quote
Neowulf Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I am so renaming my tekkit server launcher to Grand Theft Auto V BETA. Quote

linkthegamer Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Ill have to do this then. That didn't work last time i was really into steam. I am surprised they might have added that since that is one of the reason to by a game on steam instead of just pirate and run it as a 3rd party game. Be nice to be able to use that overlay in games. Now if it just had logging. Also that batch file game spoofing trick is evil. But now I want to try it, "Linkthegamer is now playing Half-Life 2: Episode 3 Beta" Quote
Jay? Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Nah, the overlay always worked, but it only could be used on steam games, tat you purchased through steam. Having it on minecraft would be super useful, particularly for thaumcraft recipes. Quote

I though it had to be a game that you had purchased and downloaded from Steam proper and not just any game you added via steams "Add a 3rd party game" option. I didn't even think about the fact I could play in full screen and check the wikis at the same time. I really will have to try that later. Quote

But now I want to try it, "Linkthegamer is now playing Half-Life 2: Episode 3 Beta" That should be "Half-Life 3" and I am good friends with the guy who was doing the McOverhaul for Minecraft where you could have a steam-esque overlay. I can find out about getting the source if you want. Quote

Valve cant count to 3 though. I have noticed that. Maybe we should ask for Half-Life 2: Episode 2 - Part 2 instead. Quote
freakachu Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 steam will put the overlay on 3rd party games if you run them through the client. for instance, it works for league of legends. however, if you run the technic launcher with steam, the overlay will not work. this seems to be due to the way the launcher restarts itself every time you run it and then just ends up running a jar and blah blah. basically steam doesn't have any idea what it's doing and gives up. the vanilla launcher worked though, last time I tried it. Industrial Miner Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 How about Skyrim V BETA? [img width=100]http://www.p71owners.com/images/smilies/animated/drink.gif Quote
linkthegamer Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 How about Skyrim V BETA? [img width=100]http://www.p71owners.com/images/smilies/animated/drink.gif Pfft, I run the Elder Scrolls VI: Elsweyr Beta. Also I tired the overlay thing then looked on google, the consensus seems to be you have to use 32-bit java even on 64-bit, and quite possible it has to be java 6 as well. I hope they are wrong about that. Quote
ppeupf Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 [img width=800] Now every time I play minecraft I will be playing GTA V closed Beta XD Quote
