  1. Thank you plowmanplow I was hoping something along those lines happen. In this case the worst can happen is a client not being able to craft something (because the server wants the client to use other ingredients than the client sees/wants) or seeing false numbers in terms of tanks, energy cells, RF production, etc.
  2. Thank you for your replies: Okay, I will keep that in mind. I did not plan on purposely have different conf files. I was just wondering what could happen (I did not test it yet) On the other hand, how do you handle people who do that on purpose. I can alter my tekkit or tekkit lite or AotBt client confs anytime. I guess I have to test that...I think it should result in some sort of error message. Well, that is what I thought, too. Then again, what is "game content". NEI can be considered game content as well (of some sort). However, I do get your point. On the other hand, when peeking over to the Tekkit Server zip, NEI is also in there. And that, I think, is a client mod, isn't it? Yes, you are right. Makes the thing rather big. I guess it is better just to have it somewhere else downloadable.
  3. Hi everyone I am tinkering with my "own" (private) modpack. Well, I am at least trying I stand at the beginning to understand the whole thing, so I am using Tekkit and AotBt as references to figure out what things might do or not. I have now a working client and server (have not made extensive testing, but at least it starts ). However, I have two questions which I hope someone might assist me with: If a config file from a mod on the client and on the server is different (eg. block IDs or the client says buildcraft quarry yay and the server says nay) which one is being used at the end (I guess server) and may this cause issues (or is it just overwritten by one of then, again...I guess server). I used the same mods from the client on the server. However, I am aware there are mods which are client only (such as WAILA). However, how do I find out at the end which ones I really need on the server as well if there is no explicit info from the homepage I downloaded them? Is there a way to integrate a texturepack in the client download? Or is this something that really only can be implemented after installing the modpack and starting it? I would not mind if it is not loaded directly. It would be great if it was possible to add it to the client download directly (if that makes sense). Thanks a lot
  4. sorry for asking likely obvious questions What do you exactly mean and understand by "dedicated" server? Did you download the server.zip of Tekkit and started a server out of that and then connected with your client to the server? Have you tried re-download the tekkit-server.zip?
  5. Hi all I am wondering which mod makes those floating island (with all the blue and green slime stuff/trees). Anyone an idea? Thanks
  6. Uhmmm... 1) This is the Tekkit forum, not attack of the b team (that one has an own forum) 2) As far as I know the Technic Team does have NOTHING to do with attack of the b team...that modpack is done by someone else (another team) 3) It is free...I would choose other words if I were you.
  7. 1) Do NOT use that color with a dark background...I can hardly read what you are typing. Sorry, but this is just awful 2) When it says that Forge is missing mods, it surely tells you which ones, right? can you tell us? 3) can you provide print screens? 4) have you tried to reset the pack (you can do that in technic launcher when using the little icon of the modpack, in your case tekkit).
  8. It is always way more helpful to get pictures (better even, several from different perspectives)
  9. For me: Thermal Expansion (3) for both (item and liquid) and then Applied Energetics for items. TE3 still for liquids. EDIT: I figuered that AE now can handle liquids (with an additional mod). I have not tried it, however, for me that would be end game goal...everything with AE. Nothing is so easy and comfortable. At the beginning though, wenn AE is not yet an option, it is Buildcraft pipes for me (and TE3 of course, depending on what I need).
  10. Okay, I still can not comment on the disappearing part (which does indeed sound strange). What I was getting at was, if they for any reason might have been mined away by the quarry due to being on the wrong side and somehow inside or too close to the quarry. However, try to use stone or cobblestone (or actually gold which should also work) and not a diamond one. Diamond pipes are actually used for specific purposes (redirecting stuff to different pipes attached to the diamond ones). I would really not use diamond in this case. Try with stone or cobblestone again and see what happens.
  11. So, as soon as the water approach does not work anymore and you actually need steam, those turbines are useless. This is what I get from the thread so far....
  12. Can you provide a screenshot? What kind of pipe are you using? How did you connect it (what side?). I always connect a stone (or cobblestone) one at the top and lead it away (usually to a tesseract).
  13. Hi there I would suggest to try and place one (maybe two) energy conduits (lead or hardened should suffice) between the generator and the energy cell. That usually does the trick for me. Granted, I always did it like this, never try to put a energy cell directly to the generator.
  14. Hi all and thanks for the replies... I do hear you, but I still do not grasp the arguments: What computer is not able to handle java 7 if it can handle java 6? java 7 is a little less ressources hungry than java 1.6. There is no operating system after Windows XP that does not support java 7. If you are on older hardware that either does not support windows XP or newer (or linux 12.04 and newer) or does not handle java 6, then it hardly can handle minecraft (let alone modpacks such as Tekkit). Additionally people do not "only play Tekkit" with their computer, they are also surfing the web, doing electronic banking and such. Java 6 is posing a security risk for those tasks (again, you may argue java in general does that, but java 6 is not updated anymore). So I ask: Is there are reason to support it besides of supporting operating systems windows 2000 and older (which inherently will have troubles running minecraft in itself) and to support (lazy) people who do not want to update/upgrade? As for Mac-Users, well...I do get that argument (somewhat). Then again, how on earth do customer allow a company to let them work on outdated software like that? But I guess I am way to spoiled with linux to understand that one. I guess I have to accept this argument. So we are not upgrading the whole world because of Apple? Running legacy code just for being compatible is not called "optimising", I am afraid. It is actually far from it. Optimising would be exactly the opposite -> get rid of the deprecated stuff, rely on newer classes and processes, more optimised ones that do the job better. And again, I hardly think there is a computer out there not able to handle java 7 as good as java 6 and still running Tekkit (which needs more ressources than vanilla minecraft). This is why I mentioned "consumers". I have (unfortunately) still have servers that run Java 1.6 (and even older) for legacy products that can not be upgraded or where the customers does not want to spend money to upgrade. Those servers are, however, protected otherwise and have specific purposes. Not really compareable to consumers who have Windows XP or newer (which can handle java 7 with issues). You might be right, it is a luxury problem, but still...not really a reason to still support it. Actually, I think it is rather dangerous to still support it and give the people the feeling it is still ok to use java 6.
  15. Tekkit 1.2.8e has been release to fix an issue, which - if I understand correctly - only happens when you are using Java 1.6. Java 1.6 has been EOL for quite a while now (at least for consumer section). There is no reason for a normal user (who also plays minecraft) to use that version anymore. Even on servers (if it there is no java 7 in the repositories, then it is time to upgrade...NOW...and not only for the sake of java). The only reason to use Java 1.6 is for cooperate users due do legacy products. So question is really....in all seriousness...why still supporting it? Are there some real requirements for people still using an outdated and potential insecure java?* * that being said, java 7 had its fair share of bad publicity as well....
  16. Hi all Anyone else experiencing issues with pipes (project red) and Thermal Expansion 3 energy pipes and fluiducts? (v1.0.9c) Project Red Transportation issue: I tried to make an automated farm with MineFactory Reloaded using planters, fertilizer and harvesters. I am using two independent pipe systems. One pipe system is providing the fertilizer with stuff (one chest with the broadcast chip and the fertilizer with stockpile chips). That one is working as intended...the fertilizer get their share of stuff (unless there is not enough produced, of course). However, the second pipe system is not working. In this system, the planters and the biofuel reactor are connected to a chest which is filled by the harvesters. The chest has a broadcast chip and the planters as well as the biofuel reactor have stockpile chips. For a moment it works, the planters get enough seeds/carrots/potatoes to replant the fields...also the biofuel generator get some stuff. However, after a certain time the planters run dry and therefore everything does. As far as I can see there is no possibility to give priorities to the stockpile chips. Energy pipes and fluiducts: Sometimes they stop working...out of the blue. I connected some machines to redstone energy cells and they got energy. After a while they ran dry even thought there was more an 10'000'000 RF left. I took the pipes away and rebuild it and voila...they got energy again. Same happend with fluiducts. Did not change anything, all of a sudden no flow anymore Anyone else having those issues?
  17. I loved IC2 in Tekkit Classic (of course) and even Tekkit Lite. But in Tekkit Lite you started to get alternatives such as Thermal Expansion. At first I was not really happy about the fact IC2 is gone, but now...now that I got to know Thermal Expansion (and Applied Energetics) I would never want to go back...like...at all. So, basically what Curunir said: If you want to look back, take Tekkit Classic or tinker a modpack yourself with Minecraft 1.6.4 (not even sure there is an IC2 which is supported by newer versions of minecraft). Using Tekkit with Minecraft 1.6.4 and then add IC2 will not work. If you want to see the future, then take Tekkit with minecraft 1.6.4 and enjoy TE and AE .)
  18. dlepi, what did you use to make the video? Bandicam? Fraps? something else that allows to record your voice AND minecraft sound and allows to record the desktop the same as minecraft?
  19. Ah, a "high end chip" as in a "high end CPU"...that makes more sense.
  20. hi there Any reason you are still on OpenJDK 6 instead of 7? it says that project red seems to have trouble with some mismatching versions. Have you tried to reset the pack and redownload it all?
  21. Beside that fun fact (which is true unless you either mix up i7 with HT or Xeon processors), how can CarlsFriend graphics card be high end if there is none? Or am missing something? That is likely due the fact you are using a 32bit operating system and a therefore also a 32bit Java. AFAIK in this case the launcher will not allow you to address more than 1 GB even thought you might have a little more. I do not know how long you wait for loading it, however, even on my computer which is rather decent it takes a while to load. Give it at least 5 minutes for a try...start it and then do not touch anything for 5 minutes. Other than that, sorry...no idea...unless there might be some info in the logs.
  22. Nope, actually not....at least not to my knowledge. I just figuered that the Sphax Patch for AotBt 1.0.9c is not very good. I stick with the 1.0.8 patch.
  23. Sewage is not only a "byproduct" and in my opinion should not be considered waste at all. As Darth Crater stated, with sewage you make fertilizer using a composter. With that an automated farm is actually really efficient. With that you can ensure you have enough food or supply for making biofuel which is rather handy in terms of power generation (unless you go all lava/magma with pumps and world anchors, etc.)
  24. The "bits" alone will not tell us enough to make an estimation (and even with lots of information it will always be a guess or an estimation, just a better one). Your modpack can work perfectly fine and without any problems on 32bit...if all other components match It is additionally (to OS and Java-version) the total amount of RAM, the CPU, the graphics card and the graphics driver that in total will tell us whether AotBT will work better or worse (and therefore also Tekkit and Hexxit, etc.). You will have a hard time with onboard-graphic cards (such as Intel HD 4xxx, less than 4xxx I would actually not even try). Even with the newest drivers. Best is a dedicated graphic cards such as Nvidia or AMD (with a driver which is not outdated). Having a decent CPU (lets say not older than 5 years and not too low-end) will surely help. If you have 1 or 2 GB of total RAM, you might run into troubles. If you have more than that you might be luckier. If you have 4 GB or more (preferably more) you are wasting it by not using a 64bit OS and not using Java 64bit.
