MFE and MFSU not sending EU..!
BuccaneerRex replied to Starlight's topic in Tekkit Classic Discussion
I had a similar issue, even with an LV transformer. I had to break and replace a cable in order to get power flowing again. I switched to MV and put transformer upgrades in, and it seems to work better. -
Technic and Tekkit: The More I Make, the More I Lag

We're scraping the bottom of the barrel here, but I think Buildcraft is far harsher on cpu cycles than Redpower is, so if you have lots of pipes, try using tubes instead. -
Technic and Tekkit: The More I Make, the More I Lag

Yeah, it's sometimes tough to get it to play nice even on higher end PCs. Another suggestion is to look around here on the forums for instructions on removing optifine. It's great if you need it, but it can be cranky if you don't. -
Technic and Tekkit: The More I Make, the More I Lag

Oh, one other thing you might try, if you're using tekkit for non-multiplayer server: You can launch a singleplayer tekkit world from the client. Just click single instead of multiplayer. Then you don't have to worry about trying to run a server anywhere. -
Technic and Tekkit: The More I Make, the More I Lag

You do not need a fancy spec computer to host a local server. I ran a tekkit server off a 5 year old laptop sitting in the corner for several weeks. Core2 Duo at 1.73Ghz, using 1GB of ram for the server. I even ran it out of network share folder, so that when I wanted to update a file, I could just remotely access it. Since it's going to be just you, you don't need to worry about lag, as your LAN should handle it fine. As for technic, one thing i found that helps is to ensure java has a profile in your nVidia control panel options. this will make sure that the graphics card is doing what it can to process for the game. You say you're charging Klein Stars, but I found if I'm charging more than 2 or 3 at a time, it doesn't matter what I'm set on graphicswise, I get lag like crazy. This is for singleplayer. Not all mods are created equal, and some are far more intensive on the cpu for some reason. Wireless redstone is one of these. The more you have, the harder you'll lag. Sorry. Turn off mods you're not using, like millenaire and mo'creatures in single player, since they're awfully cpu intensive. It sounds to me like you're deliberately stressing out the game, and then wondering why you get lag. Minecraft, and by extension Technic/Tekkit, are not like other graphically intensive games. Almost none of the processing and rendering is done by the GPU. SO sure you can run high end games, but believe it or not, minecraft is actually more processor intensive than almost anything else. At any given moment, your game is keeping track of over 10 million blocks, checking for updates and changes to the entities within them. That's outside of any graphic rendering, that's just for game data. Even turning down graphic settings doesn't change the fact that MC is tracking 16*16*256 blocks per chunk, with a radius of around 16 chunks from the player. 20 times per second. In java, no less. SO it's not surprising. THe more you give it to do, the more it's going to lag. Start separate creative worlds for each build project, or at least make sure your old ones are turned off. Kill mobs you're not using, especially on the tekkit server, with the /killall command. -
It's a list of the block and item ids that are used by the currently installed mods. You have to get a list of what's used, so that you can assign unused ones to all the blocks that Forestry would add. I think you can do it through the NEI options menu from within your inventory.

What do you just HAVE to do in America?
BuccaneerRex replied to Ziinia's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Cities are boring. Go and explore the natural wonders of this vast continent. I hear it's 8x the surface of the earth. Or maybe I'm thinking of something else. -
I think a lot of the raw materials have been added in later versions. I know silver, copper, bronze, oil, uranium, and one or two others also work. The best way to nerf EE is to disable energy collectors. If you can't generate free EMC, then you have to actually deal with equivalence. as of right now, the second you get 7 glowstone and 9 diamond, the EMC generation curve turns exponential, and you basically get creative mode. I think it's actually fun before that, since you have to decide whether you're going to keep these sapphires for tools, or trade them in for diamonds. It can be quite funstrating to have to resource manage like that.

I agree. Most of the time, I don't even put anything more advanced than a generator down until i have an electric wrench, just in case. I was just thinking of ways to balance the modder's intent with good gameplay. "realism" doesn't really fly in Minecraft, and penalizing the player for a misclick sucks. I can't tell you how many times I've destroyed an MFE because I clicked the dot instead of a blank face to turn it. There go four more diamonds, damnit. That recipe thing keeps me from doing anything with the crops. It's one thing in something like Thaumcraft, where discovering the recipes is a core part of the mod, and gives you incentives to do so. But there is almost ZERO information about how to work the crop system. I learned more from watching Direwolf20 do it for 30 minutes than I did in months playing it. I saw weeds and wondered why they never seemed to grow any bigger. I didn't even know that the advanced recipes gave you buffs. I thought it was just some more useless garbage. If the rest of the mechanics weren't so much fun to play with, I'd abandon IC2 completely. As it is, I usually only make a processing center and a mass fab, and leave it at that.

Will Technic run on this laptop im getting?
BuccaneerRex replied to MinecraftNewbie_98's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I should mention that I run with the default texturepack. I can't run any sort of higher end resoution pack. No 512x512 photorealism for me. (why anyone wants those is beyond me anyway. I find the default charming, and exactly the way I like it.) -
EE is what it is. Nobody forces you to use it. If it's a server, the owner can disable it. There are several EMC generators that work as well. I think the blaze macerator is probably the most efficient, but it's very slow at small scales. Automilkers and Soupmilkers are better, since they don't need EU generation or IC2 machinery. Darkrooms are good to start, but they can cause lag at high speeds and large scales.

Will Technic run on this laptop im getting?

If it helps, I'm running Tekkit just fine on a 6 year old HP DV8000. Nvidia geforce GO 7400, Centrino Duo @ 1.73 GHZ and 4GB RAM. I can run on Far distance, with a few tweaks to the graphics. I found it extremely helpful to associate an Nvidia settings profile with Java. -
Oh, I don't like it either, but i accept it as part of the mod. It makes one pay more attention to where you put it, or deal with the mistake until you're advanced enough to correct it. That said, industrial machinery is a serious pain to move, seeing as they usually weigh tons, and are quite a lot bigger than a meter cubed. I think a viable alternative would be to make the wrench work more like a pick, where you have to spend some time taking down the machine. Hold RMB to keep the process going, but if you stop before it's completed, THEN you have a chance of losing your machine (at least back to components). Electric wrench would give you a faster break, down but would continue to cost energy. Lossless mode could be replaced with Instant mode, using up a lot more energy, for those too impatient to wait. That, I think, would be a more balanced mechanic. It also fits the metaphor, as low-tech tools would obviously take longer, and losing concentration or making mistakes during the breakdown could cause damage to the machine. Also, somebody needs to make an omni-toool mod. Perhaps with a plug-in system for the various mods. Maybe a Minecraftian Army Knife? You could switch between wrenches, screwdriver, crowbar, etc, along with a low-damage weapon for those unexpected mob attacks. Perhaps also include other tools like picks and shovels and a magnifying glass for starting fires. It would be totally OP if it didn't take massive durability damage though.

That's another reason I consider RP tubes to be superior. Using covers to separate tubes and paint to isolate items makes it so much easier.
-
I think it's just an incentive to upgrade the tools to electric, and build the higher tier storage/charging devices. Stretching the metaphor doesn't make it more useful. Anyway, what kind of expert beats his machines with a wrench until they come loose from their mountings? No wonder they sometimes break. As I said, I'd be fine with a break down back to components, or a more elaborate teardown mechanic. But I'm fine with it as it stands. If you're tearing down 40 solar panels, you should expect to have to recharge tools.

Let me edit that post to add a sarcasm face.

I'm not sure I entirely approve of computers in minecraft. I know, I know, don't use them if I don't like them. I just think that it sort of defeats the purpose of making elaborate machines and control systems if you can just one-block solve all your issues with some offline programming. Now if someone let me use redpower logic tiles with the little blocks mod... that would be something to write home about.

I tend to mix and match. I use tubes for sorting, because I like being able to paint the tube and use sorters. but buildcraft is far superior for autocrafting. I can't stand how slow the autocrafter mk2 is. If I have a lot of things to craft quickly, i can put 5 wooden pipes/engines on a single autocrafter and pump items out like crazy.
-
Perhaps some sort of tradeoff of time/energy to guarantee a successful decomissioning? Like a wrench that had some sort of storage and cost energy to use, but made sure you wouldn't lose the item? edit: SARCASM FACE

It wouldn't be too bad if you got all your mats back, and just had to recraft it. I'd actually be more OK with something that broke it all the way back down to components. Like you broke the machine, but you get the iron/copper wires back.

Make teleport pipes none player specific.
BuccaneerRex replied to Joshposh70's topic in Tekkit Classic Discussion
No, sorry. As far as I know, the pipes are owner specific. You can share a tank, and each pump to your own pipes though. Remember that servers can have hundreds of people on them, and it would be chaos if anyone could pipe anything to everywhere. It would be a griefer's paradise. -
