Vanilla piston elevators are cool. An up and down setup could be really easy and compact with MFR Rednet.

There isn't any significant differences between windows and OSX. Just download the mods and stick them in the mods folder.

Optifine conflicts with mods in Tekkit, for example Modular Power Suits. It's best to leave it out.

It could be the conductive pipes. I don't think they like tesseracts or energy cells very much. I think you'll have to scrounge together a few conduits before you can go wireless.

Umm... if you don't mind updating to the latest, Tekkit 1.1.6 has Buildcraft 3.7.2 in which the pipes are completely overhauled. Conduits are still better, but I can use pipes with out constantly being in fear of my power looping and exploding or being lost.

Pulverize Iron Ore. Ferrous dust is a rare bonus. You can also get Iron from Tin Ore, Gold from Copper Ore, and Shiny from Ferrous Ore.
