Sup dudes talking about permissions, This is why we don't let users argue about permissions, it just breeds a poisonous environment. Let the Technic team worry about this stuff and their relationship with the mod authors, because honestly that's where it counts. And I hate to burst the bubble but no amount of rambling from anyone (including me & other blue names) is changing their viewpoint (which, I assure you, is not "be a dick to mod creators"). Respect each other, and recognize the other side of the fence exists.

It's a joke thrown around, usually in an act to make ourselves appear as stupid as others try to make us out to be. Honestly though, at 2 TB bandwidth a day I'm pretty sure KakerMix & Co are a bit more in the hole than the mod authors. Back on topic: Time will tell, but I have confidence in its healing abilities. As with any project, there are going to be glorious and ugly moments.

Unpleasant News For The Future Of Tekkit
SimpleGuy replied to jakj's topic in Tekkit Classic Discussion
Of course there will be lag-time in getting what was once bukkit server plugins coded into the new forge. But to say it will never ever be the same in terms of functionality is a bit melodramatic and silly. -
How many Times Do your Cows Moo In A Hour?

Religious puns are in poor taste, guys. -
It doesn't have to be clusters (though it certainly applies between nodes there), even the bus between my RAM and my video card was the bottleneck for some research calculations I was doing with CUDA, depending on the application. You'd probably know more about motherboards than I do, but I'm pretty sure the buses between RAM and CPU are designed a bit differently than the small buses between the graphic card's onboard RAM and one of its processors. All in all, it's like having a woodchipper that has enough power to grind a fully-grown redwood tree at a time, but you can only feed it sticks no bigger than your wrist.

In theory, nothing can travel faster than light. EDIT: Except Tachyons. A bad joke: The bartender says "We don't serve tachyons here". The tachyon walks into the bar. -

Honestly, I don't know much about it. But going off the knowledge Jorcer provided above, all it really does it seems is replace the singular problem of requring power needed to heat up gas into plasma with the problems of: requiring an (assumedly) larger power need to continuously (due to alpha sticking) produce muons, and requiring a whole new process to adhere these muons to fuel (new fusion fuel "enrichment" stage). -
Nope, don't flatter yourself. EDIT: Try theprolo's advice.

In small isolated reactions, it's happening in nature constantly. If you could somehow hold a jar of dense antimatter where you could spontaneously trigger many reactions at once AND somehow get daughter particles to interact with the immediate environment (this depends on the exact annihilation and surrounding material I'd imagine), it could be just as concerning as a traditional nuclear weapon. -

Of course, as long as it is engineered properly. If you've ever had a PET scan (or know a relative that has) then they were exposed to antimatter (positrons) and the images developed were from antimatter reactions within their body. -

On the topic of seriousness, antimatter is produced naturally through radioactive decay. -
Please post in this thread. Thanks.

I'd like to offer you some fair reading that has links to many scientific articles at your own leisure, in the hopes you don't blindly dismiss an aspect of science that is heavily studied. (Hint: climate sensitivity discussions is probably the reason for your dismissal) Hey, let's keep things civil. -
I think tekkit would be better if we put poop inside our computers.

I'm unaffiliated. I dislike the Republican party's stance on social issues. I dislike the Democratic party's stance on economic issues. I dislike the Green party because they're absolutely block-headed and ignorant when it comes to nuclear power. All in all, people who supported SOPA already have a huge negative strike against them when it comes to my vote. -
To extend jakj's statement: Be careful with any sort of performance metric: There are so many measuring sticks out there, and not all of them measure equally on the same systems. For example, next-generation supercomputers using heterogeneous platforms (GPU/CPU pairs) can tout all the peta and zeta FLOPS they want. But that's an old metric back in the day when cpu floating point operations per unit time was the limiting factor. The current limiting factor for them is busing data between nodes and duplicating unnecessarily data in software (for 3-D problems, up to an order of magnitude worth more data and calculations). So I can have a faster FLOPS supercomputer that is actually slower because of the busing issue.

Let me enlighten you on something. This pack was started by a guy like you, who manually installed mods and edited configs and enjoyed playing minecraft with all these cool mods together. He wanted his friends to do so as well so they can do SMP. So he made a short writeup to them saying "here's how to install these mods 'n stuff". One of his friends happened to know a thing or two about programming, and made it so that it could be done automatically without having to unzip .jar files manually. A popular group of guys stumble upon it and promote the hell out of it. Suddenly, everyone wants to know how to do it without trolling the trash heap that is MC forums to get download links and wait 5 years worth of ad.fly links every time a mod updates. So rather than telling everyone else to fuck off and die in a hole, the guy decides he wants everyone to have fun and shares. What a bloodsucking ungrateful dickpickle! And I challenge your claim that "most of the people on the FTB forums" really know both "sides" "inside and outside". If "sides" even exist. Hint: they don't, we all want the same thing. And that's for more users to have more fun. Anyone who obstructs that goal has, in my mind, ulterior motives.

Bottom line is words are far less prone to misinterpretation than memes because memes seem to always have an element of humor in them, which can distort intent. Anyway, rules are never up for discussion. I recognize all the philosophical idealistic touchy-feely kumbaya arguments people bring up, to which I kindly point out this is the real world where we have to make sacrifices to make ends meet. Like the Aztecs.

If people wish to continue talking about this, please do so here: http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/unpleasant-news-for-the-future-of-tekkit.29736/ EDIT: Also OP you might want to brush up on the difference between Technic and Tekkit.

It feels like a hangover to me. That's probably because I'm hungover though. Locking this, as we don't need multiple threads talking about the same thing. Continue discussion here: http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/unpleasant-news-for-the-future-of-tekkit.29736/
