  1. There are subtle differences between the power tool's axe module and an actual axe. The axe module doesn't use treecapitator and uses it's own logic. It doesn't work on all things wooden like axes. It's unpredictable compared to treecapitator and I've cut down houses another player was working on by accident. It also doesn't remove the leaves like treecapitator either. This last one is at least fixable with a different module either the blade launcher or the leaf blower. I still use axes because of the subtle irregularities of the axe module.
  2. but is the question "what do I have to do to play MC?" or "what do I have to do to play MC on this computer?" it sounds like you might need an upgrade to do the former, or some investigative repair for the latter. We really can't give more than vague help. Make sure you are really running 64 bit java on a 64 bit OS (or 32 bit on 32 bit, they have to match). Make sure you have the latest drivers especially for your graphics card. Outdated drivers and/or bad graphic cards can cause crashes with MC. More serious hardware problems would usually come with more symptoms but it's still a possibility. Try uninstalling and reinstalling Java. Try removing the .technic directory and start over again from scratch.
  3. Because allocating more RAM to MC is most often the solution to a lot of lag problems, even for vanilla MC. Because Tekkit and Hexxit are bigger than vanilla, it's also more important to allocate more RAM. Both start doing funny things when they're low on RAM. This tells me one of two things. 1) You only have 2 gigs of system memory total and it won't let you allocate more or 2) you have 32 bit Java installed and it can't let you allocate more. If you have a 64 bit OS, you should use 64 bit java.
  4. First thing to remember is that Hexxit is very resource heavy during world generation. Is anyone exploring and causing new chunks to be generated? Because of all the advanced world generation mods that Hexxit uses your server can definitely take hits if too many people are doing this at once. I'd say look for a way to generate your world ahead of time. Second, I've noticed this message happens more from the physical hard disk not keeping up usually caused by large changes to your world during things like chunk generation and massive changes like setting off 100 blocks of TNT or using World Edit on a large region. If you have the ability, the best way to fix this is to place your world save into a ramdisk. It's kind of an advanced thing to do but here's a decent article on how to do it. It won't work if your world grows too large and there's the added risk of losing your world if the unforeseen happens. What might help almost as much is to place your Minecraft server onto a different physical drive from your OS (or at least your OS's swap partition). Even though drives are fast these days, it's still physically capable of reading from or writing to only one spot on the disks at a time. If a program, service or daemon is trying to read or write on the disk at the same time Minecraft is they have wait for one another.
  5. Force Fields do take a bit of processing power to use, both server side and client side. I'd agree that you should up your RAM if possible. As for the biometric ID, it has to be on the same freq as the rest of your setup's MFFS blocks. You have to place an ID card for yourself into the "master" slot. You then take ID cards for your friends, place them in one of the "rights" slots, assign them the appropriate rights by using the buttons that appear on the right (am I right? yuk yuk ) and then move their card into the row of slots at the bottom. Finally activate the Biometric ID block with either a redstone signal or by manually turning it on in the GUI. I believe you have to deactivate it to make any changes to the cards in the slots but that's the basic process involved.
  6. Without more information about your setup (eg are you on Windows, Linux or Mac?) it's hard to give much assistance. But if you try removing ALL versions of java, reboot for good measure and reinstall the latest version that might solve your problem.
  7. If you're using a ME Import Bus connected directly to the harvester you will lose items because the ME Busses are only capable of importing one type of item in a single tick. The harvester will output all of it's harvest at the same time. The bus will import one of them and the rest are lost. Solution is to use a vanilla chest in between the bus and the harvester as a buffer.
  8. Some changes where made and the only cast you can now create in the stencil table is the ingot cast. Every other cast must be manufactured by making a wooden or cobble version of the part, placing it onto the casting table and pouring molten gold or aluminum brass over it.
  9. That's a better solution if you can get it working. I'll just add a caveat and say that don't expect anything done with ComputerCraft to be anything near secure. Don't bother with keycode doors or passwords.
  10. No you'd need more than just repeaters. You'd need to interrupt the redstone signal then re-enable it afterwords. You'd probably have an RS-Latch (set/reset switch) connected to a clock circuit. The Programmable Rednet Controller could do it a lot easier than vanilla minecraft redstone circuitry.
  11. Did they change the name of the Melee Assist module? That one would make you're unarmed punches stronger. I don't remember if you had to be holding the power tool or not.
  12. Because when they put it in they made a mistake in the configs? Everyone's human.
  13. Removing the TechnicLauncher executable won't "uninstall" it. Most of the TechnicLauncher's files are stored in %APPDATA%/.technic on Windows. The path is similar on other platforms. Delete or rename that directory then try launching the executable again.
  14. Remember that if you use BC Conductive Pipes you need to use a wooden one for the first segment on the engine. The wooden versions of BC pipes are always used to extract something from something else storing it.
  15. The Blade Launcher? It's more a utility-weapon. In addition to acting like a pair of shears, cutting grass and shearing sheep, it will do one point of damage. Fortunately it has quite a rapid fire rate, almost as fast as you can right click. If you where to blanket your target you can hit it repeatedly. But yes it is a bit of a letdown if you're expecting it to do things like severing limbs and beheading.
  16. The side question is easy to answer. No unfortunately you can't. IC2 never updated to MC 1.5.x and so you have to play Tekkit Lite to get IC2 in a Tekkit pack. Most of the important things from IC2 are possible to do with other mods in Tekkit main. There's a wiki page on the subject. As for plugins, the Tekkit server package doesn't support Bukkit style plugins out of the box, only Forge mods. Fortunately there's MCPC+ out there that will give you both. Download a "B" build from that link and replace the Tekkit.jar file with it. Yes replace the existing Tekkit.jar it won't break anything. Launch as usual (with the launch.bat/sh preferably) and it will create the plugin directory. After that you can place any Bukkit plugin into the plugin directory and your server will load it.
  17. After making changes to the config files are you moving to a new location in your world? The changes we're discussing here only effects chunk generation it won't (at least I think it won't) go back and regenerate chunks to put uranium in them. Move a good thousand meters from where you are to a region where your server would have to generate new chunks and try digging there.
  18. Or you could do this the manual way, a switch placed near your launch pad wired to some circuitry to switch off the field for a couple minutes or so.
  19. Hey I can speak from experience on this one! You won't explode, but you won't get past the field either. The rocket will simply stop at the field like it was a ceiling. When I tried it I had to get out of the rocket, turn off the field, and the rocket continued without me. Don't remember if I ever tracked it down or not.
  20. I agree with dwwojcik that biofuel is a great middle game power generation option. Your other mid game option would be Combustion engines running on refined Fuel. Comparing the two, Combustion engines are more dangerous because they can blow up if they overheat or if they are under-utilized but they have a simpler setup. BioFuel doesn't have the explosion problem but does require a steady stream of organic materials to function which usually means an automated farm of some sort. Often times what happens is that your farms will get unloaded, your stockpiles of organics will deplete and your power will stop. So either you're babysitting your engines because they'll blow up or you're babysitting your farms kind of the same difference to me. After getting your next tier power situation squared away there are several complex builds you could attempt. First you should start with is a basic Applied Energistics storage network. At first you'd just use it to store items but AE is also great at automating your crafting later on. Build yourself a kick-ass modular powersuit (very resource intensive but worth it). Build a MFFS Force Field around your base. Build a rocket and go to space! Build a moon base or a space station! Explore other dimensions with MystCraft ages. Explore the dark corners of the realm by jumping through a Dimensional Door. Build a Mining Laser rig. Or go for the end game power generation and build a fission or fusion reactor. Just set yourself some goals and work towards them. Anything will do. I once wanted to fill multiple large tanks with sewage so that I could claim they where full of sh*t
  21. This video should help. It's the mod overview from the author. The basics are you need Coersion Derivers to convert MJs to Fortron, the MFFS energy format. You then position a Fortron Capacitor to act as both a Fortron tank and the energy transfer mechanism for the other blocks that need Fortron. You use a Force Field Projector to actually create the force fields. You'll need to add at one mode upgrade (cube or sphere are the most usefull) and at least a few scaling modules before the projector will do anything (you can see). The Interdiction Matrix will allow you to do things like kill monsters/animals/players or limit what they can do when they enter the radius of effect. Actually the trickiest part of MFFS is upgrade system. Without upgrades, Coersion Derivers generate relatively small amount of Fortron, Fortron Capacitors transfer Fortron at very slow rates and Force Field Projectors and Interdiction Matrixes won't do anything useful without them. Building larger fields is a balancing act to ensure that enough Fortron is generated and transferred to the Projector fast enough to keep the field online. Thankfully all of the blocks in the mod will tell you how much Fortron it uses, produces or transfers and as long as you watch those figures so your generation and transmission are greater than your utilization you'll be fine.
  22. Try using a stick in the casting table for the basic handle. What stencils you find in villages are random so you'd find it eventually there.
  23. That was changed. I don't know exactly when or why but you can no longer make casts other than the ingot cast on the stencil table. You have to use the actual part on the casting table. I think it was changed to make it more realistic.
  24. It still takes me a couple passes over everything to pick out the tool handle casts from the various blade casts so don't fret. The only stencil not in the table is called "Wide Guard" (I think) and it's a hidden part for a hidden recipe making Cutlasses.
  25. You'll be able to create all the parts except one which can only be found in village chests. You don't use the stencil table to create molds for the smeltery. You create wooden (or any material really) versions of the part, place the part into the casting table (just right click when the table is empty) and pour molten gold or the aluminum alloy over it to create a cast. The only cast that can be created on the stencil table is the ingot cast.
