  1. Lately I haven't really played anything but minecraft. I did play Path of Exile's beta a few weeks ago but it kind of got repetitive in the end and being beta it wasn't all that well balanced either. Though they have another open weekend this week with a crapton of updates and balancing so I might try again. From the old classics I wish X-Com would get a decent remake. I know there are a couple of them in the works but I don't really have high expectations for them seeing how badly everyone else have done them so far. For gaming box you would have gotten far better results had you spent ~100$ less on CPU and gotten a better GPU instead.
  2. Is there a good reason you are using the .jar directly instead of the .exe? In case you are running some other app than than the launcher try running them on command line to see if it actually works. Also, you should be using just the plain-old java.exe, not the other java*.exe's.
  3. Re: Finite Water Discussion I'd love having "true"* infinite liquids! Though I'd expect them to work with all the pumps in the game as well (redpower, IC2, BC, something else?). *) Aesthetic stuff would probably be hard to preserve as it's not trivial to figure out what actually is aesthetic and what isn't. RP2 volcanoes should be relatively easy, natural mountain rivers (do these even exist?) probably not so much. Then again it would be rather awesome if those RP2 volcanoes would actually actively (slowly) produce new lava to flow down the mountain sides. Obviously there would have to be some limit so that it wouldn't eventually overflow the entire world.
  4. When there is whitescreen there also generally is an error log. Now go read the sticky about reporting bugs and make a proper post so people might actually be able to help you.
  5. That's impossible. You probably just have configured your OS to have the 32bit version as default.
  6. http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/reactorplanner.html?hiwuvdpjspog3aliwmo56f9zmkdwtpfrcyjrkoniqix7z1gzk Mark1 16M EU output at 80EU/t amd 2.0 effectiveness 3 chambers, Uranium 4 cells, 2 empty sides not covered in water. Haven't (yet) built it in real game but seems pretty decent for fire and forget and shouldn't be awfully expensive either.
  7. Assuming they plan to have the SSP just run both the server and the client on same machine then there will be some overhead when instead of directly calling a function it now goes through network layers. It shouldn't be huge and any normal application shouldn't get enough extra lags that you could even measure but as MC is far from normal anything can happen.

    Proof.

Too bad that real-world performance increase is somewhere around measuring error level.
  9. I would assume that if mojang isn't stupid they will have all the game logic on server-side with no real need to do manual synchronization with clients on per-mod level so getting mods to work on the new platform would be easier than to get them to work on current SMP.
  10. How is it any different with any other time when it takes time for modders to support the latest version of MC?
  11. We are only screwed as much as individual mod authors will be by having to port their stuff to new modding API + unified SSP/SMP platform.
  12. They are working on two major things at the same time at the moment: 1) modding API 2) moving logic to server-side and basically unifying SMP and SSP I hope they are planning to get both of them released at the same time. If not then I expect there will be a TON of problems until both these tasks are ready and basically most mods will simply not have releases at the time. Only after both tasks are done will the mods start working semi-decently again.
  13. Easiest way would be to uninstall the 32bit version of Java. It's not like it's actually needed for anything when you already have a 64bit one.
  14. The OP was rather vague and actually had RP2 listed as mod installed in the server so I got a bit confused.
  15. Depends on how they plan to do it. If all logic is done on server-side then all mods will move there and client will simply have visual "fluff". Assuming they do it right then yeah, MP and SP will essentially become the same thing and mod made for one will work with everything.
  16. Minecraft can be played on a €600 laptop just fine. For the rest of the money you can get yourself a desktop that is so vastly better than any other laptop that is going to exist for next two years it's not even funny.

After Dell bought them the price premum dropped a little bit but yeah, it's still overpriced for the performance you get from it.
  18. I'd put some 2-3k for a GOOD desktop PC and get non-sucky laptop for ~1k. In the end you'll be far happier, trust me. If you really do want to waste money on a laptop get something like this (slightly customized Alienware M17x): COLOUR CHOICE Alienware M17x Stealth Black edit PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Processor (2.20Ghz, 6MB, 4C) edit OPERATING SYSTEM English Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 BIT) edit GRAPHICS CARD 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M edit MEMORY 16GB 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel (4X4GB) edit HARD DRIVE 750GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive edit LCD 44cm(17.3") WideFHD (1920 x 1080) WLED LCD edit OPTICAL DRIVE DVD+/-RW (DVD, CD read and write) edit WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY Intel® 1000 Wireless Card - European edit PRIMARY BATTERY Primary 9 cell Li-Ion Default Base Battery edit It came to around £1430 or ~€1760. Alternative manufacturers can probably get you as fast laptop for around €1300-1500 For same amount you can get a desktop that will completely obliterate the laptop in every way except portability.

So you had to make a whole new thread for it? As you did it then at least give us detailed specs for your current PC. I have hard time figuring out what kind of a PC it could be that runs MC at that speed. Even my 6 year old midrange box manages 30FPS just fine.
  20. Your numbers make no sense at all. Just tell us how much exactly are you willing to spend on a computer.
  21. I've got lenovo w510 with 16G RAM and quadcore I7 CPU that supports 2 HDDs and has 17" screen. I can run Technic with everything turned to max and visual range at 512 at around 50FPS. Though battery won't last more than perhaps 40 minutes while playing. I have hard time believing that this alienware would be any faster or would last longer. It's a work PC but I think it costs around 1800€ or so.
  22. Does it absolutely have to be a heavy laptop you can't really use without attached power cord? If no then just go with regular desktop and you'll get FAR better machine. For a laptop it's not the worst one out there but it can be made better for sure. I especially don't like the HDD setup and also there is absolutely no reason to get the ultimate w7 version.
