  1. The problem with adjusting solars is even though you can change their timings (advanced solars config), the multiplier will not work. Because of this, we banned them on BeyondMinecraft. We tried to remove all forms of 'set it and forget it' energy production. Not because we're crazy-mean and don't want people to play 'Tekkit', but because the longer you have a map, the more people will come on and make their solars and whatnot. Those people get banned or move on, but their chunks are still being loaded and causing and exceptional amount of lag...for no reason. This may not be a problem for 20 man servers, but we generally have 200+ online. We rolled a new map about 2 weeks ago and we already have 3,000+ players with claims on GriefPrevention. How many people want to craft solars ASAP? It all adds up pretty quick. Yes, there are other things that probably tick 20 times a second, but we can't control everything. Nuclear for example (also buffed on our server) is reserved for the highest donation rank. We don't really need to worry about every player placing reactors like we did for arrays. What works for us can easily (and often does) make people quit the server as soon as they log on and find out solars are banned. You just need to explain to them why you're doing it and show them an example. We buffed geothermal so much it requires a lv-transformer. They love it once they try it. Hopefully in the next version of Tekkit they use the IC2 1.X version (I don't see why they wouldn't) because the API for IC2 was updated with some good methods that will let us poll the EnergyNet to see not only what types of machines cause lag, but their exact X,Y,Z. We've got the plugin coded and ready to go. Just waiting for that update.
  2. http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/worldedit/files/16-world-edit-5-4-2/ Also, no logging plugins like LB or HE? WAT!?
  3. You can ban them from the system with a simple command, depending on the plugin that is. You can also make Factions release LWC when an enemy claims their land. But, to each his own.
  4. You probably still want all that. Spamming/advertising is freaking annoying, dupe fixing, could drop LWC and just run Factions, RCD finds lag, and you could drop Tim...but again that's clearly mandatory for slaying griefers! I can't tell you how fun it is to 1-shot someone who thinks they're a boss at PvP before you ban them. We just had a guy threaten to take us to court last night. Modreq is always nice so that users can send you tickets for things like donation ranks or whatever when you're offline. Even if you are anarchy and allow griefing, that mod can be of service.
  5. I would add an anti-spam/advertising plugin (can be done with 1 plugin - like AntiAd), Alchemy chest dupe plugin, LWC, RedstoneClockDetector, and Tim so you can '/enchant all' to 1-shot griefers before you ban them which then causes them to rage and troll your forums, facebook, minestatus, and tekkitserverlist (yes, I love it). Also, you didn't mention any anti-grief measures except LogBlock, which is not preventative. Since you have no preventative griefing measures in place for your players (let's be real: giving out per-player regions with WG is not fun) you will also need a modreq plugin. No Towny, Factions, GriefPrevention? By the way, you don't NEED the wand to create a region...but who would remove WorldEdit anyway?! You should also grab this awesome copy of WorldEdit so you can move micro blocks from RedPower: http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/worldedit/files/16-world-edit-5-4-2/ I am sure that I can post more essential plugins later. No pun intended.
  6. Why is it that you can only get 40 players online? Is your bandwidth limit being hit? Is your TPS dropping to 2 or something? Your hardware doesn't look horrible, but your CPU is a bit slow. You can always virtualize unix inside windows if you want to give it a shot. You should run some examinations from NoLagg and VirtualVM to see where exactly you're lagging. There could be a lot of factors that are killing your server. Plugins, mods, rogue players leaving laggy redstone on, etc. You can PM me if you want and maybe we can find the problem.
  7. http://whitelist.mcf.li/ As many people have already suggested, there are plenty of good services out there already. MCBans isn't too harsh, and even if it was...it's the player's fault for griefing, spamming, racism, etc! Why smack someone on the wrist and then take it back? We've used it for over a year and don't see anything wrong with it. Even with the maximum server rep that we have, a global ban gives a user a 7/10 rep. By default, each server's minimum reputation is 3! Of course you can make it whatever you want, but 1 ban isn't going to blacklist anyone...neither is two. Three of the same types of bans, or acquiring a 0 rep will blacklist you from all MCBans servers. I don't see what good moderating users like d2jsp will do for private Minecraft servers. On top of that, how many server ops actually check this site? You would need an additional plugin to query the site to get a fresh list all the time as well. Use the link I posted and then you have ALL of the current banning solutions ban list at the tip of your fingers without even running them.
  8. It is annoying. We just set our spawn with MV and we use WorldBorder (already on the server anyway). Any time someone takes a stronghold portal, the WB kicks in and pushes them to spawn. We regenerate ours every day to give players a dragon for fun and this solution works best for us. Nice plugin solution though!
  9. Try running RAMDISK. You've got plenty of memory. Just set up rdiff to run every so often (every 15 minutes is probably fine) and you will be loving life. Quick and easy way is to toss it on /dev/shm/ and launch. You will have 8gb by default for your RAMDISK (half your memory) and you can increase it through fstab if your world ever gets that big.
  10. False. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica. Also, apply this patch: http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/patch-for-ee-mining-tools-no-more-griefing-with-them.6642/ I can't think of one explosion that isn't logged, including things like infernal armor and mining laser explosion.
  11. We use Spigot just fine. 150-200 users with a little better tps than yours. Sure wish it was higher, but yeah... that's what you get with a million solar arrays on the map =\ https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36903976/Spigot/craftbukkit-1.2.5-R4.1-MCPC-SNAPSHOT.jar http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/cb-upgrading-tekkit-3-1-2.19176/ That thread explains it all, just run build 75 of CB++ and you don't need to rename it to Tekkit.jar
  12. The problem is likely your AFK booter (frown face for running Essentials). Chat events and whatnot are probably not being passed to the booter, so it still thinks you're AFK. I would disable that option and try AFK Manager (still works on 1.2.5 - no deprecated chat events yet!).
  13. Try pulling Towny for a bit. We had to fork it and remove a class that was being called over and over for regeneration on explosions...even though we don't use that feature. That probably gave us 4 tps alone. You could always use NoLagg to examine your plugins. Also, you should be running CB++ or Spigot and NOT the Tekkit.jar that comes in your zip. Search the stickies/threads on this forum for a link. Try those two things out and I bet you see 16 tps or more (start with CB++ if you want).
  14. Yes, it's a brutal map. We have over 35 pages of Factions to join though, I am sure you can find another. If you are looking for wars and stuff, we have that too. Think of MobArena but pvp team wars where you capture towers and forts. We custom coded this plugin and you will surely have fun. You are also awarded money for your efforts! Log on and ask someone to start a war. We are actually in the process of automating this on another server too so you can war 24/7.
  15. 1.) Yes. Mining lasers, knifes, whatever. None of it works. 4.) It works, try it out. If any of the blast hits the region, the nuke is canceled out. We use LogBlock and it comes through as TNT. I cannot speak for any other block logging plugin except CoreProtect. It works too but if you don't use MySQL it had some serious bugs with nuke rollbacks. 5.) It does =p 6.) Again, if you're invulnerable no plugin needs to catch the event (it doesn't go through bukkit anyway). You can disable the cannon block damage in the config. We did this since it is not logged. 7.) Correct, but since you use fakeusers they cannot place the items since they come through as Builder rank (or whatever you use). We ban all rings, infernal armor, and a few other things and generally hold over 100 users. The only real complaint is from Swiftowl's which I'll probably allow soon. If you need to ban some items to save face, then do it. I really don't give 2 rips if a guy leaves our server because he can't use an Infernal chest (it's not logged) or use a philospher's stone to interact (also not logged). I'd rather keep my map and users happy. If you're worried about banning those, what, 7 items then I don't know what to tell you. I know these methods work because we've been exploited on them, we patched what we could, and moved on. The huge advantage to having every mod use fakeplayers is clearly the rollback. You could easily rollback something like a quarry in a LogBlock selection (regen can be nasty if you've ever played with it much - especially on volcanoes). As far as I know, there are these fakeusers: [industrialCraft] [ComputerCraft] [buildCraft] [RedPower] You need to toggle them all on in their respective configurations. I know BC's is off by default but I don't remember on the rest. I also recommend you configure turtles like this: turtle_fakeplayer_dologin=true turtle_fakeplayer_method=one Otherwise if you have some greeting plugin, it will see each turtle as a new user and it becomes annoying very quick. Also, it could bloat your user logs. A single ComputerCraft is good enough.
  16. Great. If you want to get your grief on too, make sure you are in '/warp factions'!
  17. You do know you can turn on invulnerability on in a WorldGuard region, right? Not only that, but the nice forked version here prevents abuse from a wide variety of Tekkit items. A spawn/WG area should be the only sanctuary on a true PvP server. If this is indeed the case (like it is on our server), then no other plugin out there needs to detect weapons to prevent illegal ganking in said spawn. Overall, I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Running a PvP server does not equate to having a griefed spawn. First of all, all of your mods (IC, BC, RP, etc) better be using fakeusers. Second of all: 1.) Enable invulnerability in WorldGuard 2.) Unless you op ComputerCraft (you should be shot on sight for this), how is it going to grief inside protections? 3.) See #2 4.) Disable TNT explosions in your region 5.) See #1 6.) This is true, nor does it log who placed them, but see #1 7.) Catalysts are easily logged. They show the player who placed them as the one destroying the blocks (with that excellent EE patch found on these forums). Ban your rings. 8.) Ban terraformer. It isn't logged. Overall, most of that stuff is EASILY blocked. If someone wants to grief in the wild with these techniques then that's where you have to actually step in and be a Moderator/Admin/Whatever and clean it up and issue a banhammer or six. We don't have to worry about PvP in the wild...because it's a PvP server. Who cares if you are hit with a throwing knife or a blunderbluss? Welcome to the server! Anyway, I PM'd the op earlier. Did you get a chance to sign on?
  18. What OS? Nothing beats rdiff imo. You can restore any single file/folder from any backup point without having to unzip the entire folder. Not only that, it's differential. You don't NEED to make a complete zip every hour or whatever. Saves disk space, time, and lag.
  19. Nice workaround. Would you mine sharing that? I've nerfed quantum/dm/rm armor with ModDamage and I like that plugin a lot. Yeah, Spigot is updated daily (http://nyancraft.com:8080/job/Spigot/), of course still for Vanilla. Hopefully by the time Tekkit gets on 1.3 they'll have a nice, stable build out and it would take no time at all to make an MCPC version.
  20. You can also use the MCPC version from Spigot (cb--): http://forums.spout.org/threads/1-3-1-spigot-v2-the-most-performance-savvy-craftbukkit-mod-out-there.3776/ Just click the MCPC port. This is a very active project with some good devs on it like mikeprimm.
  21. Thanks very much for this fix. Would you mind showing what line you added?
  22. I did find another plugin that prevents it from going into your hand. It did not support damage definers though... Let me look it up for anyone who is interested. http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/itemcontrol/ This will instantly push the item over one slot. As soon as you scroll over ModifyWorld will do its job.
