A mod which should work in SMP is poorly coded and does not properly proxy its client only code. In the case of #1, it is a simple matter of figuring out which mod is client only. For #2, you'll need to track down which mod is not coded properly. This can be tricky. Quote

For #2, you'll need to track down which mod is not coded properly. This can be tricky. The crash happens when a creeper is about to explode and or tnt is about to go off. This crash isnt on start up, I was in game and the creeper was exploding and right before it blew up it crashed. Quote
