Should I bother with Forestry?

No it was removed because the creatour didn't give consent to include it in tekkit so he made it incompatable. Apparently it is now compatable. (Source, The creatour of the mod on minecraft forums.)

for tekkit it would need to be on the server as well. try their subforum.

You need to add the correct bukkit port of forestry on the server and client version that goes with the bukkit port for each client. Not to mention they all need to be configured correctly to work well together.

Will the electric engine that forestry added be put back in? I loved that, and the ones in now don't run directly off of generators. Minor thing, but it was still handy.

The current build of Technic has electric engines that run directly from Generators.

It has the power converter mod. It does the same thing, you're searching for the Energy Link.
