Jivaii Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 What kind of defensive measures do you guys take using Technic to protect your house/assets and for your farms? I'm curious because I've been experimenting with the Thaumcraft symbols/runes, but once tend to have lag issues when I'm running a thaumium crucible to refill my nodes (I tend to keep alot of excess items so that I don't need to come back non-stop to refill) Quote
ErusPrime Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I use defence to keep desheep in depen. Quote

I'm curious because I've been experimenting with the EE symbols/runes, but once tend to have lag issues when I'm running a thaumium crucible to refill my nodes (I tend to keep alot of excess items so that I don't need to come back non-stop to refill) First.. Symbols / Runes are with the Thaumcraft mod. You should set up a chest that pipes items into the crucible instead of you overfilling (as this causes lag). I would recommend the portable nodes for distant portals and a simple setup with crucible of eyes (prevent spilling) filling a few nodes close to the portals at your base (all in a room together) ErusPrime is a great user to talk to about Thaumcraft as I believe he has indicated that is the main mod he uses. To protect your house, I would say to use scaffolds, cf sprayer, cover your outside with concrete. Farms I would use fencing and glowstone lamps (to assist in preventing spawns) and interdiction torches to keep the mobs away. Hope this helps. Quote

I'm really more of a vanilla guy with bits of all the mods sprinkled in. I've just been playing with it a lot lately. It can get pretty laggy depending on the size of your build and your spec's. Don't overdo it on the crucible. Use eggs or cobble. Something cheap and infinite to continually drop into the crucible. I would suggest EE mark I collector and a condenser. You can hook up BC pipes to the condenser to pull the stuff out. Symbols and runes will also start to get laggy if you go overboard. I tried to create a building that was every forestry machine, powered by Thaumcraft using verdant symbols + golden runes. went from 125FPS to 11 when I got near the building. It's a cool mod but I would really suggest using something else for defense. at least until he puts in some performance options. good for xp farms though. gold symbols will help keep them from escaping. Jivaii Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 Sorry, I'm tired and not thinking straight =P I'll fix that As it is, I've only used them as protection for the smaller entrances for my underground warehouse that I've got 2 blocks high to prevent endermen and lots of light to keep out everything else Would keeping a larger node network cut down on the lag? creepig Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 lol.. there you are. Never thought of using defence quite like dat. Probably a comment aimed towards how AmEng spells it as defense. Defence keeps desheep in depen and dewolves out. Quote

MechaCrash Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I handle defenses by building all of my stuff underground, and keeping it very well lit. The only vulnerable points are my solar array and front door. The solar array can be protected by surrounding it with reinforced stone or construction foam, and then covering over the top with reinforced glass. The front door can trivially be protected with an interdiction torch, rune, or a mechanism to dump water in front of your door to push enemies away. You can use lava to kill them instead, but lava takes a while to clear up, so I do not suggest it except as an emergency "holy shit so many creepers" kind of thing. If you're feeling sufficiently ambitious and paranoid, you can install pillboxes connected by underground tunnels so that you can go to them and then use a bow or wand to take shots at things waiting to jump you as soon as you step outside. You can use a mining laser too, but if you're firing towards your house, this is probably a bad idea. Quote
Tomprower Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I usually go end game by placing lots of Tesla Coil and hooking up red wire so I can protect myself from Dwarfs because I live in a swamp cave and Could you make a thaumcraft shocking symbol? Quote
bastrian Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I divide the space around the house in various "zones". Zone 1 ist the outer perimeter and Zone 5 is the house. First of all the house is far away from the spawn. In the area where i live i hide tesla coils randomly. Whitout proper proctection it's almost impossible to get around alive. Only one tunnel on bedrock high leads securly out of the area (Railcraft Highspeed rails). Zone 2 is a little bit different. I have one layer of grass and under the grass is 3blocks deph lava. Zone 3 is filled with tesla coils. Every 3 blocks a tesla coil. Zone 4 is simply a forrest thats surround the house. The house itself is located 3-4 blocks under the grass line and one block under the grass is a layer of personal chests. The Entire house is surrounded with personal chests, expect for the tunnel thats leads out. This system use a lot of EU constantly and takes a lot of work but i was never griefed. Quote
OmegaJasam Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 On a standard world, I general make sure that the inside of the house is /perfectly/ lit. And then ensure perfect lighting to a certian level outwards. The larger the house, the further I go (no close spawn prevention) I then tend to light more casualy a much larger area. This stops spawns next to the house and reduces others severly. With technic? Tesla, runes, indiction can all be used to upgrade to perfectly safe. As can building your house in midair and flying. Quote
Nethaufer Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I just make my house and make sure the area around it is well lit. Most of the time I just play on peaceful because my computer makes it too laggy to properly deal with deadly mobs. On the first night I also make sure that the area around my crude shelter's entrance is lit well enough I don't get mauled when I leave. Quote
vibur Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I currently have creeper explosions turned off 'cause I'm a sissy. On the other hand, this enables me to have a house surrounded by fenced in snowmen. Every now and then, I have to replace one or two due to a skeleton getting a lucky shot or a rat getting through the snowball salvo. Though, now that MechaCrush has given me the idea, I will probably move all my surface shit underground and light it up. Makes me wish there was a BtW-style simple elevator in one of the Technic mods. Quote
Jivaii Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 The "Lift" plugin is one of the simplest elevator mods I've ever seen, but the creator doesn't wanna port to SSP =( Quote

j_millar Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Obsidian core walls and the odd arrow trap are enough defense for me. I'll be installing deployable iron golems in the next version though. Quote

Jay? Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 This is true. What is also true is none of those are elevators. Build a Zipper. You can get from bedrock to toplevel in 12 seconds. Quote

I was saying to test the use of the deployer to complete snow golems, as a method of gaining insight as to whether or not it would work for iron golems. Quote
Tomprower Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 That's true Jay, I highly think it works from this vid by oded, BUT don't use a timer because putting too much crashed my world in minutes even though I got a Antvenom based computer Quote
