  1. The canon timeline is that HL1 happens in May 200_ (the last digit is left deliberately blank). Specifically, the Black Mesa Incident happens on May 16, 200_. HL1 as well as Blue Shift and Opposing Force all take place between May 16 and August 15. Portal 1 happens in the 20 years between the events of HL1 and HL2/.1/.2. Portal 2 happens an unknown but profoundly long length of time after HL2.2, but presumably long enough that the automated system has rolled over at least once. Specifically, GLaDOS and other Aperture Science computers likely use 64-bit architecture (the first true 64-bit processor was released in 1991 (Source)), so it's sometime after a 64-bit integer would have reached its maximum value. A 32 bit integer's maximum value is 2,147,483,647. Since I've no idea what the maximum value of a 64-bit integer is, let's call it double, so 4,294,967,294. Since the hibernation computer probably only has a value for days, not years, let's divide that by 365.25. 11,758,979.59 days. So not quite the "9999...99...9" number but still. Eleven MILLION days, or nearly 4.3 million years. Chell is likely, by this point, the last human alive on Earth, as evidenced by the rolling waves of grass and nothing else in view at the end of the game. L4D/2 do not take place in the Half-Life Universe. Proof. If they were part of the universe, they'd be mentioned as such.
  2. This is in the wrong area. First, the window coming up that says "Hello" is not a bug, it is ForgeModLoader's loader dialog. The window not going away, however, is a bug and should be reported in the correct place with as much detail as you can provide, as well as any steps you may have taken to fix it.
  3. No, no, don't get Start8. ClassicShell is better and free.
  4. Here's a suggestion: Don't use Windows 8. :P
  5. Oh. Okay then. Go home everyone, I'll need those pitchforks and torches back. Thanks.
  6. Oh man, I'm so glad you're here. I thought no one would ever see this and all my effort would go to waste. blaze, I'll be honest here: I'm only semi-trolling you. You are awful at written English. That's your first problem. You will never ever ever in a million years get permission from either artists or Microsoft to make a commercially distributed tabletop RPG or to use their art, respectively, because your command of English as a written language is a clusterfuck of awful. Secondly, if it's not going to be the Halo RPG, why bother? There's already a fuckton and a half of sci-fi RPG settings out there. Use one of those and just call things by different names. As an aside, if Microsoft were to make a Halo RPG, why would they bother hiring someone completely unknown to do it? WoTC is more likely to get the rights for a Halo RPG than you are. Hell, white Wolf (now wholly owned by CCP) is more likely than you. Thirdly, you really really don't need art for your homebrew Halo RPG. It's unnecessary, and I say this as a guy who custom built a Dead Space RPG for personal use. If you're going to make this solely for personal use, maybe share the statblocks with your friends, you don't need art. Anyone can do a simple Google search to get an idea of what a Warthog looks like, for example. If you're dead set on making money from this, it is going to take a very very long time.
  7. No, Cheap Shot, tell me it's not true! TELL ME IT'S NOT TRUE! Where will I get my cheap Ugg boots from now? WHERE, I ask you, WHERE?
  8. Cheap Shot, do you happen to know where I can get a pair of cheap Ugg boots? All these spam threads have utterly convinced me that cheap Ugg boots are superior to any kind of footwear in existence and I absolutely must have a pair or twelve. Do you happen to have a slightly dodgy link to an online store where I can buy cheap Ugg boots? I'm so very desperate for the superior form of footwear to grace my unworthy feet that I will risk death, dismemberment, and identity theft (not to mention the potential ruination of my credit rating) for a pair.
  9. Most modern browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) have built-in spellcheck. If you're bad at writing, you really shouldn't be trying to make a commercially distributed RPG until you've improved your literary skills by quite few orders of magnitude. As to using the images you find through a Google search, the thing to do copyright-wise would be to first contact Microsoft and ask for their permission to create a tabletop RPG based on the Halo franchise. Their answers will depend on a wealth of varying factors, such as potential market demand and possible prior agreements regarding the creation of your theoretical tabletop RPG. Then you'd have to hire a cabal of legal experts to define the contract between yourself and Microsoft, which would include how much money each entity would get. You'd also have to make a company and have it become well known for quality tabletop RPGs before Microsoft would consider your proposal to make a Halo-based tabletop RPG for more than a second. Once all that's sorted out - call it 5 years to go from startup to respected tabletop publisher and another 2 years to finalize the agreements with Microsoft, wou'd have to spend up to another 2 years developing and playtesting the game. Then, once you're ready to publish it in hardcover with art, you'll need to contact each and every artist whose art you use and obtain their permission to use their art in exchange for a portion of the profits from your game. That's assuming that since you're a respected tabletop RPG publisher in 2022 you don't have a stable of artists to make art for you. So, good luck on that! Let us know in eight to nine years how this goes for you, and best of luck!
  10. First, please learn to use English. Second, if you're looking for Halo art there's a great deal of it available through a simple Google search. I'm sure the owners of Halo's intellectual property rights (Microsoft) would be more than willing to license their art and concepts for commercial use in a fan-created d20 system tabletop roleplaying game. If you're making this for personal use, then you have little need of art and just need stat blocks for the different NPC, enemies, vehicles, gear, and so on. I'd recommend looking at d20 Future for a good baseline to use for making custom weapon and vehicle statblocks.
  11. You're looking for the small scale recruitment area. Also, spend the $5-$10 it takes to get a small VPS hosted for you, instead of fucking about with Hamachi.
  12. ReadyBoost is not RAM.
  13. Are you sure you're 18? Because this, this is not how an 18 year old's grammar and spelling should be. To OP: I hope to goodness that you're very picky about who you actually choose to be your admins and operators, as I've found it's difficult to respect an OP who can't use proper grammar or spelling. As well, in my experience the kind of person who refuses to take the extra ten to fifteen seconds to spell properly and speak coherently is not the kind of person to trust with the far-reaching powers of a server OP. If, after reading this, you find you are suddenly in need of staff, please let me know via PM. I'm reasonably sure I'm more qualified than any of these mooks. E: For the record, I'll bow to convention and spend more than twenty seconds filling in your application below. IGN: Look to the left of this post, it's right there. Age: 21 Country: United States of freakin' America Reason I want to join: Toughie. Apparently you want this to be a community of people who are over 18, which, frankly, is a pretty low bar. The server limit of 20 people is nice, keeps things intimate. I suppose I'd like to explore that sort of setting, having mostly played on very large servers such as Atherys Ascended, Nations at War, and Terra Novos. Whoa, lookit that name drop, eh? Anycase, I'm interested in a tight-knit, mature server, which seems on the surface to be what you provide. Tekkit Experience: Mostly with Redpower and IC2. Love making supercompact automated smelters and sorting machines. Also love the microblocks in Redpower, those things are dead useful for making lots of really nice things. Do I have a microphone, and am I able to use Teamspeak: Bet your ass I do and am. There, children. That's how it's done. Oh, OP? A tip: Next time you're looking for staff, it might be better to approach people like myself or The Merchant of Menace privately via PM, rather than using your need for staff to chum the waters.
  14. You don't.
  15. Do it, you puss. :D
  16. I mean like is it physically possible for you to mangle the English language any further than you already have because if it is that would not be OK.
  17. If that's the case, I'd spend the money to buy a new monitor so you get the full benefits of it. The 660 Ti is a fine choice, though not what I'd choose with a $2k budget.
  18. $2k, you say? Give me a few minutes - I presume you already have OS/monitor/peripherals? OK, so right now this build is just shy of $1750 USD. I based off a slightly more expensive build of mine that clocks in at, right now, slightly over $2k due to the usage of some almost wastefully awesome stuff. The case is a full tower, so it's huge, but it's got a built-in SSD tray and all sorts of nice features (watercooling grommets, space for server-size boards, enough slots for 4xSLI/Xfire setups, etc). Plus it looks sick as FUCK.
  19. Holy shit, genuine contrition on this forum of all places? MADNESS, I say!
  20. Thank you so much for being an intelligent person who responds well to gentle reprimands. If you continue doing so, I'm absolutely positive you will be welcome here.
  21. He's talking about hardware, not software. Don't be an asshat.
  22. And I was thinking this was a thread about sharing custom modpacks we might have made. This is wrong, the folder structure needs to be modpack.zip/mods/zeppelinmod.zip You can also use local files by using file:// instead of http:\\ and pasting in the path to your modpack.
  23. This isn't the place for your suggestion, really.
  24. Forge should go into modpack.jar, and that needs to be in the /bin folder.
