  1. As far as I know, all worldgen objects are created once and then stay that way, unless players interact with them. Notable exceptions: Endermen picking up blocks, Creepers and the Wither blowing things up. And that's about it. Besides, Tekkit Lite is ancient. Go play something from this century.
  2. That is for the server admins to handle. Tekkit is just the modpack they happen to use, but you will need to talk to them about your issue. Luckily for you, this appears to be a common problem right now, so everybody who changed their in-game name will have some problems - which means that admins will have to think about solutions. This forum, however, is quite definitely the wrong place to complain about it.
  3. First off, the only download you are getting around here is the launcher, which handles installing and starting modpacks. Trying out modpacks randomly always bears a few risks. Many people just start off making their own packs without much knowledge and pick things up as they go, improving over time (and so will their packs, hopefully). The Technic Launcher is open for everybody in that regard, so bear in mind that some of these packs are going to be lousy. That's freedom. If you want to avoid any pitfalls, you can stick to official packs, which are held to somewhat higher than minimum standards. As the launcher itself had priority so far, the official packs are all a bit late to the 1.7 party, but new Hexxit will be available soon, with Tekkit bound to follow.
  4. It does work. But it also requires that you open up NEI options and enable cheat mode again. It's a bit clunky to use, but it works.
  5. I initially found this confusing, too. NEI seems to tie the ability to use cheat mode to operator rights, so without op, you can't use it. In multiplayer, that should be straightforward. But singleplayer mode was changed by Mojang to work like multiplayer internally in (I think) Minecraft 1.6. So now you actually need to op yourself in singleplayer to get access to NEI cheat mode. Valkon described above how you do that if you haven't "enabled cheats" at world generation (which is actually op mode).
  6. I dimly remember having seen a sprint button around the time I first played modded Minecraft (and also a zoom button, for that matter). I'm pretty certain that this had been added by a mod, no idea which one. Might even have been old Technic/Tekkit, when there was still a distinction between singleplayer and multiplayer modpacks. Yes, that long ago. Now that Mojang has added it in Minecraft 1.7, I see no reason to harp on about how it's not here in 1.6.4. It will be there in any 1.7-based pack you pick.
  7. Might have been added by a mod in the old build. Scroll down to the version history behind the link I gave you. The Minecraft wiki usually doesn't lie.
  8. If I read this correctly, the sprint key has only been introduced in Minecraft 1.7.2. Tekkit is still on 1.6.4.
  9. That's the malady with all those online videos. Nobody ever bothers marking them as deprecated. The treetap was part of old IndustrialCraft 2, which is only in the legacy packs Tekkit Classic and Tekkit Lite now. I wrote an introduction to current Tekkit >here, maybe you want to skim through it and give your son some pointers. Don't memorize it too much, though. There will be a whole new main version in the foreseeable future which is certain to change all this again. Mods are changing, and even the largest, slowest packs need to follow those changes at some point.
  10. I am not aware of any zoom function in vanilla. As for sprinting, you need to double-tap-hold the forward button to do it, as you described yourself. It won't work if your hunger bar is below a certain threshold, and the hunger bar will also decrease quickly if you keep running. Bumping into objects cancels the run and you need to start again. Running along narrow corridors can be tricky, because you will bump into the walls sooner or later unless you keep your sight strictly focused in the middle.
  11. Don't spill logs into posts, that's what Pastebin is for. You are running the server on Java 8 update 25. It is not compatible with Java 8 update 20 or newer. The client finally got the hotfix a while ago, but server users must still apply it themselves. You want to download the Legacy Java Fixer and drop it into the mods directory. Alternatively, you could just run it on Java 7. But since Oracle is pushing Java 8 in no small way, it is probably better to go with the fix. And starting next time, take your issue to the tracker, where it belongs.
  12. We had this problem as well with our private pack. Seems like copy.com invalidates the download after a short while. They do not want to host modpacks for free, I guess. It's really hard to find a suitable free host for modpacks. If it's just private usage, maybe Dropbox will be enough. Just make sure you get a proper link out of it and not a link to a landing page. The Dropbox desktop client (Windows) gives up those links easier than the web interface. Apart from that, yes, you did post in the wrong section. Custom modpacks are discussed on Platform Pagoda. If you self-report and point out your mistake, a helpful mod will surely move the topic for you. And good luck getting it to work.
  13. Considering the snafu you describe, there is a remote possibility that there exist more recent (but still 1.6.4-based) versions of the mods involved that may fix the problem. Or even that you are just doing it wrong, but I have no idea myself about the issue. I do know that MPS has not been updated in a very long time and is probably abandoned altogether (but no worries, there will be worthy alternatives in a new pack for sure). Now, if you find an updated mod that may work for you, it is technically no problem to just drop it into the mods directory instead of the current one. However, this only works for singleplayer, because you will thus transform your Tekkit installation into an unsupported custom modpack that cannot even connect to regular Tekkit servers (unless the server gets the exact same change). So no idea if looking for a fix is even worth your time. If you are in singleplayer or on a local server that you control yourself, it may be useful - if you can find those updates. If you're feeling like hunting down mods, Minecraftforum is the prime address to discover them. Keep in mind that you need 1.6.4-based versions for Tekkit 1.2.9 and 1.2.10beta.
  14. It's a bit fiddly, but you can put your reply outside the quote. Click behind the quote box, or cut and paste the entire quote to where you want it. Should keep its formattings. This also works when editing your post.
  15. No, you are still on the current one. However, this version is still based on Minecraft 1.6.4, which is, for all intents and purposes, dead. Bugs won't be fixed any more, as mod makers have largely abandoned it. The modded Minecraft world has moved on to 1.7.10 (some still lingering on 1.7.2, but this is already frowned upon), and any pack that still considers itself current amd active has to create a 1.7.10-based version. Tekkit has been a bit neglected for some time, so it is late to the 1.7.10 party. But the Technic team recently gave IskanDar, of Crash Landing fame, the task to create this new version. Its name has been given as Tekkit 2 somewhere, but as far as I know, this has neither been confirmed nor denied as being the actual release name. As IskanDar's first work for Technic will be the new Hexxit, we still have to wait a bit longer for new Tekkit. It would be a bit confusing if it really became Tekkit 2. If my memory serves, there have been at least four main versions of Tekkit so far, possibly more. You can still play 1.2.5-based Tekkit Classic, but that is truly ancient now (and has not even been the first one). There also is Tekkit Lite, a somewhat intermediate build based on (I think) Minecraft 1.5, but the main version has been the one with the Galacticraft theme for a long time now.
  16. And if these pointers do not help you, please take it to the tracker for further help. The Forge Java 8 issue should be gone now for clients. Only dedicated server owners need to apply the patch manually still.
  17. As a matter of fact, I have been on a custom modpack as well for a while now. If the new Tekkit stays reasonably close to our own mod choices, I will make a new guide like my old one for it. Things like Mekanism and Ender IO, and of course Thermal Expansion/Foundation need to be in it for that, which I consider likely for any technology pack. Looking forward to the mod list.
  18. If we are talking Tekkit, of the mods you mention only Extra Utilities is in the pack. I guess the property inheriting just doesn't work that well, or maybe Obsidian Bricks do not share the same level of explosion resistance that plain Obsidian has - maybe try with the latter. At this point, we can really only recommend 1.7-based solutions, as old Tekkit is pretty closed and done. I hope that IskanDar includes the Ender IO mod in the new Tekkit for numerous reasons, one of them being Darksteel Ladders. Those should give you the explosion resistance you want (my guess, not tested yet), and also offer increased climbing speed.
  19. The inventory controls are reassigned in... inventory. Click the little "three-dot" icon in the top right corner. Don't memorize that, though. In Minecraft 1.7, Mojang did a major overhaul of key bindings, putting them all in one central menu. I should also have mentioned that there is another useful NEI key. While R shows you how to obtain an item, U will show you what it is used for. In regular NEI mode, which is active when you are not OP or switched to recipe mode, you can also simply click the left and right mouse buttons for these. In (default) cheat mode, clicking will give you a stack (left click) or a single item (right click) of whatever you are clicking at. P.S.: It appears somebody pinned my thread. Guess I'll have to redo it when Tekkit 2 comes around.
  20. Unstable Ingots only "live" for 10 seconds and have to be crafted on a vanilla crafting bench (no automation allowed). Not really useful, although they may destroy the blocks.
  21. None that I know of. Note that in old 1.2.5 Tekkit (now Classic), IC2 was responsible for reducing Obsidian blast resistance considerably. In vanilla Minecraft, Obsidian is supposed to be the near-unbreakable ultra hard stuff. Only IC2 with its nukes (not really fair to call them "reactors" when their primary purpose was blowing up) wanted to be extra nasty and force players to use its own "unbreakable" blocks. IC2 generally was nasty towards players. Good riddance. But the pack you are trying out now is ancient and deprecated in itself. A new 1.7.10-based Tekkit has been announced, so I suggest you don't dig too deep into the rules and quirks of what is essentially a pack on its way out.
  22. The Technic team has stated that its work is focused on the launcher only. Official packs are maintained by affiliates who are mostly independent in their work and decisions. Likewise, unofficial packs are completely on their own and need to do their own quality assurance and support. This is intentional, and while it provides great freedom, it also requires some expertise and discipline from modpack curators. The current Tekkit has been built by Skuli, who resigned from doing this after a long period of not doing much. In his defense, the state of 1.6.4 Minecraft does not require much action any more, as any modpack that wants to live in the 1.7 world needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. To do this, IskanDar has been recruited. He is currently working on a new Hexxit and will then proceed to make a new 1.7-based Tekkit. That being said, weekly updates are not a hallmark of quality or dedication. In a large, interdependent modpack, updating this frequently makes no sense whatsoever.
  23. Well, thanks for describing the problem concisely. The crash log is all you usually need, while the launcher log is not meant to be shared for diagnosis (except in rare cases where you may be asked for it). That being said, you need to take your issue to the tracker, and not piggyback on other people's posts. The "me too" function is meant for specific gameplay issues, not crash issues which may have vastly different reasons even when looking the same. I can say from this log already that you are having a world corruption issue caused by DimensionalDoors. Remove dimensional data created by DDoors from your save (make a backup and only work on a copy) and it should work again. If you require further help with that, please go and open that tracker issue.
  24. The mod devs can't help you here, as everybody has moved on to newer versions long ago. Tekkit is ancient as it is now. And yes, this is a known issue that won't be resolved any more. You can avoid the crashes in two ways: hold sneak (default: shift key) when chopping to override Treecapitator deactivate the Flux Axe, as it won't do its magic when it's powered down Strictly speaking, one of these effects should have been deactivated in config by the modpack curator. The mods are both working fine, they just clash at this point.
  25. Please take all issues to the tracker. And while you do, this is not enough information to diagnose anything on, so you should fetch crash logs and describe the problem properly. There is a template to help you with that.
