that iron furnace is from IndustrialCraft 2. we haven't had that mod for years on Tekkit. Whoever hosts that wiki site is not keeping it updated

check at http://xpaw.ru/mcstatus/ first if Mojang authentication servers are up and running. if they are and the issue continues, post the log logs can be found when clicking the Cog-Wheel button on the top right corner on the launcher window. If you can't open the launcher the logs can also be found inside %appdata% -> Roaming -> .technic -> logs Paste the content on pastebin.com or paste.ubuntu.com and give the link.

if you can't find the server on Platform Server Zone http://forums.technicpack.net/forum/63-platform-a-custom-server-zone/ then nobody has made one.

the 1.7.10 Pack is not a pack maintained by Technic team. Do not report those packs to us, complain to the pack creator.

Modpack update is not detected by the launcher

this is not a Launcher bug. Custom modpack issues belong in Platform Pagoda when you do modpack changes you need to increment (change) the version number so the launcher understands that you updated it. -
Minecraft runs on java. You can't run the launcher if you don't have it! Get the latest java and install it come back when that has happened and tell me exactly which version she has
