  1. I know you mean well, but anyone who needs a thread like this will just suffer cranial hemorrhage upon encountering obfuscated classes. Once you're able to understand them, you're not looking here for help.
  2. Dire gets patted on the back and gets invited to the parties, but at the end of the day, the Yogscast renders him irrelevant. I like his consistency and attention to detail, but he is not enough of a force to worry this much about.
  3. Already been done: Dealwithit.jpg
  4. They are stored in a simple collection that you can alter by reflection, but nothing simple like a config. I forget the file name, but just decompile it and look for a giant list.
  5. The lily pad idea is the best, and you could probably just extend the existing class for most of the functionality. It would just be a Steve's Carts but boats instead.
  6. Best thing about EE: No need to go to MCF to get diamonds.
  7. The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.
  8. Actually, in the US, you do get automatic copyright protection for all original work, and you lose it only if you do not positively act against obvious violations of it. The point here is that there is so little of any mod that qualifies as original work (maybe a couple data structures and a single algorithm, and a few sprites that aren't just pallette-swaps of vanilla ones) that no mod would ever be worth bothering with in a copyright claim. Even big mods like IC2 and RedPower have less than half original content, because most of it is just modification of the original source to make things function. Most of the actual work in modding is making the mod work at all.
  9. You all make me so proud: Everything I even thought of saying has already been said. So, just for fun, I thought I would extend the point about adf.ly pennies to the Portal Gun mod: First you get an adf.ly link, which then takes you to FileCopter, and only then get your mod. So, you look at an ad, so you can look at an ad. That tickles me.
  10. Playing Minecraft in the first place is a complete waste of time, so what's your point? Is wasting time a crime now?
  11. More comments = better search ranking for videos. For him, getting people to argue with each other in the comments is a good thing. It's the same reason many reviewers and "vloggers" engage in nerdbaiting. ForceStrategy is known for this, though he seems to usually do it in ways that are funny instead of insulting. Adding tekkit/technic tags to the video not only causes discussion (which is good for him) but also pulls in people who weren't actually searching for his videos at all (which is good for him). It's possible to get a video taken down due to intentional mistagging, but it takes a fuckton of reports for that to happen, and is really done only in the most egregious of cases. (Just look how long it took them to remove the "reply girls", and they're back already.)

    Ugocraft?

If you already have a good bit of OO experience in programming, though, you're in good shape, because for someone learned in C++ or the like, Java is a cakewalk. It is a lot less powerful than bigger languages but much richer in flexibility. Java is a lot like Minecraft itself: Building blocks you assemble into a stacked whole.
  13. Wow, that's pessimistic. I prefer cynicism because it leaves room for accidental happiness. I think a few mods will go by the wayside, but from what the big ones have said on their threads and on Teamspeak on dire's server play, not to mention how many already were SMP or were working on becoming SMP before 1.3 even hit, the loss will be 10%, tops.
  14. Realized he was dumb and we were mocking him, and left?
  15. Do you...not understand what a joke is? When the forum switched to the new software, they lost all the old titles, so whoever put in this one was having a bit of fun, and I think it's cute.
  16. "Creativity Rapist and Sociopath" , actually. And yes, for my circumvention of Forestry's lockout and my subsequent refusal to back down upon protest. A lot of publicity for about ten minutes' work.
  17. His "public line" was that Forge was getting too big and trying to do too much. Same attitude of the elitist fools who look down on people who want to mod Minecraft but can't deal with the technical aspects like conflicting IDs and jar manipulation. Welcome to the Internet, where only the deserving upper nerd class are supposed to enjoy themselves.
  18. Considering his sub count is only five digits, yeah. It's fairly-common practice on YouTube to mistag your videos, though. I'm not surprised.
  19. Notch also said they'd release the source code to modders. Notch also said he didn't think a modding API would actually be a good idea because most of us would find it inadequate so it would be a waste of Mojang's resources. Notch also doesn't work there anymore. Notch is irrelevant.
  20. Don't expect it anytime soon: Not even Forge, the mod that other mods are built upon, is ready for 1.3.1. And no, don't blame Forge: The 1.3 line is a paradigm shift for Minecraft modding overall, even for those who already knew SMP modding, so the learning and progression curve just spiked up a sheer cliff's face.
  21. Going to try out this new tongue-twister on my father when he visits this weekend.
  22. My goodness, and I thought I had an angry personality. You think that was a threat? Time for some coffee, bud. As for the first sentence of your reply, that's exactly what I already said, as "=/=" is "is inequal to". As for the rest of it, yes, that's obvious. I don't have 20 years experience, but I -am- in this field, so we can agree we both have the basics. If I don't feel like downloading and decompiling 1.3 (since I have no intention of even playing it, let alone developing for it, yet), and you don't feel like pointing me toward anywhere that has a discussion of this, I guess the conversation's over.
  23. I don't remember what video it was on, but I know I saw him comment about how he doesn't support Technic and mod packs (this was at least a year ago; I don't know his stance on mod packs now, but I'd be willing to bet he still doesn't support Technic). Dire is one of those guys who always tries to make everybody happy and always wants everybody to like him. He avoids stepping on toes, is frequently self-deprecating, and is overall what some people (not I) would call "a pussy" (but in reality is just being really careful to not upset anyone). That's my impression of him: A stable guy who stays out of trouble by any means. And Technic certainly stands in its fair puddle of trouble, though we have thigh-high waders so we really don't worry about it too much.
  24. Everything I've heard about 1.3 indicates it runs an internal server process and uses IPC to communicate with it. Note that "server process" =/= "listens on a TCP/IP port for connections". If you can refute that, provide a link.
  25. It's a pity he's an opponent of Technic, but at least (so far as I know) he's been calm and reasonable about it.
