  1. My only thought on this matter, is while there is a /lot/ of problems. I'm less then fond of the idea that the mod developers are 'blameless'. Most of them are amazing wonderful people. But theres a handful who would rather have drama and their egos saited then anything else. Those 2-3 people have made life as miserable as any of kakers careless comments. They've fostered this community vs community feeling which all the resonable people involved have tryed to quell. Throw in the MC forums deleting all the posts from the admins here, the IC2 forums encouraging technic hate, a few mod makers with /rediculious liscences/, and honestly, I do not see a way for everything to have been made well with the technic teams effort alone. ----- And for anouther anoying gripe of mine, Honestly, even if they /had/ asked up front, the few people wanting to be dramtic would of prevented a mod pack ever being made. Heck, before the sesisons Slowpoke refurs to with the mods taking together, I doubt /anyone/ could of gotten permissions for a decent modpack like technic. I suspect if anyone tryed /now/ they would struggle to do it. It's not /just/ about respect, there are a number of mod authours out there who are just jumping on this silly bandwagon of overly restrictive modding. There /should/ be more big modpacks out there then tekkit. The ones that do exist either don't have permissions, or don't have most of the desirable mods. I'm not fond of all the mod makers who disrespect /everyone/ by trying to force them to spend a lot of time doing it manualy. Even with things like Direwolfs config, it takes a few hours between going to all the links, finding the right versions, downloading them all, installing them all... And thats if you make /no/ mistakes. It feels outright toxic and wrong. (Yes I know they have the right to do it. But a right to be an egotisitcal jerk, still leaves you being an egotistical jerk. e.t.c.) It's definatly an issue of respect at this point (previously there was revenue and support), but I don't see a lot of the community making that easy on the authours side in general. I'd love to see a community full of resonable mod authours, giving people permission properly, so we can all properly hate on guys who /are/ stealing content, rather then this ethicaly ambigious mess that devides the community between trying to support authours and the desire to use them in a conviniant way. -- I'll try to ignore the bees issue. It was unexcusable, hopefully he learned that flat out malicious code is not ok, and it will serve as an example to future mod authours where the line is. (IE, disabling? fine. Malicious? No.) Actually, since it was mentioned in the annolagys and such, does anyone have an example of Sangir publicly stating he didn't want his mod in the pack? That was one thing during that whole drama fest that was reguly claimed not to exist. If it did, it would be great to have as refrence for correcting yet anouther one of the myid of factual errors.
  2. You do that + increase the taint threshold if I recall right, making it all but disabled. Not sure if there is a combination that does literally stop it myself.
  3. Yes. Now go search for how in the many threads about it.
  4. I have a tendency of forgetting the filter acts as... a filter, when used inline on a pipe. Normally only use them on chests ^^'. Thats actualy a very easy way of building a sorting system... Possably easier then a sorting machine.
  5. Even if this thread was posted purly with malicious intent, I would still <3 it for just being all around awesome. The thought gone into it brought a little bit of joy to my life.
  6. If you ignore all the flamewars when certain mods got pissy about /not/ being in some of the popular overhaul packs. There were also a couple silly people who tryed the 'it's my stuff' routene, but that just resulted in a better version by someone else showing up the next day. It wasn't a good community, but it wasn't so outright toxic. Direwolf has a large enough community among mod users that him saying something /wrong/ could cause things to flare up. He interacts with the mod makers a lot too. Honestly, he /is/ the closest thing to a figure head for interaction with the modding community. His channel is based on mod spotlights, he plays with the mod developers and does so while specalising in no mod, and isn't a developer himself. He's in such a position he'll say little I suspect though.
  7. Oh, of course ^^'. So thats 6 extra engines from the fuel produced per refinery? Thats a clear gain :)
  8. Yeah, you can throw them and teleport to where they land (with some minor falling damage.) Heck, I think that was in before the end.
  9. Don't you have way yp meny engines there? I'm prtty sure 2 per refinery = max speed.
  10. World Anchors/Dimensional Anchors are the big ones. I wouldn't disable all of railcraft, bt that block and it's new counterpart are iffy. Alternitivly only allow the new one, and set the max chuncks loaded permissions up
  11. Two ways of bypassing already mentioned on this forum. 1 - stop the power generation (usualy by blotting out the sun) 2 - frames to move the forefeild blocks away. I think from below with a good eniough pick e.t.c. you can fly through them. You could probably make a safeish one if you forecfeilded the entire area which would allow for a valid nether portal on both sides.
  12. Uh, I'm not sure since you have aparently converted everything into EU/t. But that still doesn't sound right. The rate that fuel is used is going to be less then the rate that oil is fabricated, which is again diffrent to the amount eneded to produce it. The only way to test, would be to get a finate amount of oil (say a tanks worth) Pre-fill the engines with fuel(so only whats used is replaced, 2 engines to max out production), output it to a fuel tank, then burn all that fuel into EU with an energy link, storing it in an MFSU. Then burn a tanks worth of oil into a 2nd MFSU. (If I recal right, the oil fab takes the same EU as the oil will produce). If the first MFSU has the higher value, then the diffrence is how much you will produce per tanks worth of oil. Else it's a loss.
  13. Also, load it in mc edit to see which chuncks have been generated might give you a hint. I think. not used it much.
  14. Or.... build a pump in the same chunk so they /can't/ overheat?
  15. The egos and such are largly fueled by the current trends of 'Anti-Entitlement' spawned by idiots, 'Copyright' spawned by curse, and 'pennys' spawned by ad.fly. Throw in a couple of bad seeds such as Flower Child and Sanguir, and you have a drama fest. A drama fest that would normaly die, but the actual comminity behind it is busy sproating on about those 3 things so instead of going /under/ after /putting malicious code/ into a mod, they're cheered on and it gets worse. It's..... quite possably the most toxic enviroment ever. I'd be reluctant to partake myself (if I had enough time to do so).
  16. I think you have a very small gain from a closed fab loop, using said fuel to power the refinerys. But I don't think ti's large.
  17. The chunck loading blocks are teleport tethers, and the anchor blocks. You'll want to limit people to using dimensional ancors which have a GUI allowing you to control and see how much is being used. You can't change that spawn issue as far as I am aware. It's part of how bukkit nativly handles things, and I'm not entirly sure it applys or not. And yes, you should see a spike of ram when a player joins, as the server then has to remember things about chucnks near that player which were previously unloaded.
  18. Theres not much you can do. Make sure chunck loader type blocks are kept limited, make sure there isn't rediculious amounts of enitites in the areas loaded, and if it's anything like mystcraft, dimensions that have no-one in remain loaded with a few chuncks around the spawn kept loaded as well. So keep the dimension count down. 10 people with 8 worlds all going at once is going to use a /lot/ of RAM. Also, RAM consumption has /nothing/ to do with solder size. I've written programs <0.1 meg in size that can use gigs of memory (or more). In minecraft's terms it's mostly proportional to number of chuncks loaded.
  19. If you are very unsure and want to experiment, use on of the mark on or near infinate reactors from this thread-> http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=2963 they are both efficent and safe. I'm pretty sure you need to wire the monitor to the reactor, but since you should be able to do it without any washing off. I'm pritty sure a lever works for a simple shut on off, any redstone signal should pause it. Theres a lot you can do, but it all depends on how complex you want it. If you are not using an externally cooled one, I would just use a safe one and not moniter it at all.
  20. Since you setup makes /no sense/ this will have to be a bit general. heck each device near the transformers e.t.c. and the redstone settings on the boxes to see if any stray redstone signals are getting in the way.
  21. You're almost correct. If it is not a visual bug, and your using buildcraft pipes, and it can't fit in an inventory, it's going to pop out of the pipe. You can in /theory/ pick these items up, but if you spill a quarryfull you'll cause such lag/framerate issues that you might not be able to get close. Make sure you have plenty of storage, use RP tubes where possable, and have a way of dealing with overflow. Also, you could probably fit several small quarrys in the small number of chunks. That shouldn't take much ram at all, so long as you don't leak.
  22. One MFE could run 5 quarrys with about 8 EU going to waste. We really need that adjustable electric engine, would make this kind of problem a lot simpler. For 0 losses, one MFE into 3 batboxes powering 4 quarrys should work, using 96 eu/t
  23. The guys who run the MCForums are arbitory dicks, and they're a large part in /why/ all this shit has happoned with their false copyright advice, blind support of mods, censoring people trying to do damage control e.t.c. basicaly, it's run by a bunch of people on Flowerchild's level of egotrips.
  24. Use an MFSU for the one close to the geothermals, it throws out packets of 512, which is more then the 180/s you are producing.
  25. yeah, they mentioned it on Direwolfs SMP the other day. The guys behind Feed the Beast are responsable. Persoanlly, I think It's really two faced of meny of the mod authours involved, and don't like the obvious dig at the end. I also think the rest of the authours involved who havn't been dicks up to this point are awsome.
