  1. Compact solors are considered OP by their creator. And in a way they are. The reduced space requirements makes setting up 500+ of them trivial, with less cabling issues and such. The main reason they exist is to deal with lag. Though if you want crazy good power generation, it has to be watermills with redpower 2 stuff, or (if it's enabled) Geothermal with EE Lava bracelet gem thingy.
  2. The problem with EE is how it interacts with /all the other mods/ and the /endgame/ it creates. The transmutation table removes the scarcity of diamonds and other materials. The condensor removes the need for entire portions of other mods (Ice for your reactor e.t.c.. or heck, the reactor itself when you have inf geo-thurmal). This is where the 'balance' issues come. None of the other mods are designed with such easy access to materials in mind. Their mid-endgame items is balanced around dozerns of diamonds. Not thousands! The other problem is the end game. With nothing disabled, EE's final set of items makes creative look lame. At that point, you basicaly have a creative server, which a lot of people don't want. If your after a technical world with pipes and cables and quarrys and miners and farms everywhere, EE tends to just overrule them all. Using PvP logic is also daft in a game like this. The power in EE's items is in their massive alteration capabilitys. And you can mix and match it if you want EE's invunrability. I would actualy disagree with your first statement. EE has a /very/ /good/ repuatation. It just doesn't mesh very well with the style of gameplay which involves large elaberate structtures, power generation and tearing up the landscape. People disable it because it completely alters the play style. Right now I'm playing with EE disabled on my server, because it always means expanding your operations if you want more stuff. EE? It just means making a slightly bigger collector farm from your collector farm. If you can't turn mountains into diamond blocks just by looking at it funny by that point. Heck, it makes basic structures more impressive too. A house made entirely of marble brick without EE is more impressive them a house made of redmatter blocks when you do! Generaly, if you like EE, just find a server with it on. It's almost all about the playstyle, not the protection issues.
  3. Sometimes I think I only check these forums twice+ daily in hopes of seeing the little creeper animation, It makes me smile. I've looked at some of SA when there was read access, and had a few friends with accounts. From what I've seen it doesn't have a lot of the low end spam/rubbish e.t.c. But it /has/ got a larger chunk of the undesirable elitist types. Some of the content on there is incredible though. Some of the original Dwarf Fortress pass around lets play things started there, like Boatmurdered, and it's successors.
  4. The default option for items in tubes is to go to the closest valid destination. You can either take advantage of this, or you can use mode 5 to paint all unsorted items and then paint the currently 'unpainted' pipe. I would personally use mode 5 to send all unsorted items one way, and to create an overflow I would use an uncoloured pipe, with the destination chest being further away then any other chest in the system. Alternatively I would send /all/ items to one set of storage and use a retriever to get the items I want sorted out of it.
  5. Ours managed to spill a quarys worth of cobble in one spot instead of going into a recycler. I had to get on my gaming rig just to load the client X_X' They're handy, but should be used sparingly
  6. Between the creeper, and /all the explosive machines/, Ogre, spilt vis and reactors.. Creepers are a minor annoyance. Well, other then the whole buggy armour deal.
  7. Could you run massive voltage through wires and add electrification to the trap?
  8. Whats the 'unsolvable' part?
  9. If the gentle informing approach doesn't work, you simply make a similar but superior mod by listening to what the community wants, encourage it's inclusion in mod-packs(Because you would never not want that if you were sane), set up a sensable donation scheme and then when your mod takes over the entire market and is making sums with extra 0's on the end compared to theirs, You say quite explicitly the things you did and they didn't. They either rage quit and we're down one modder who was more harm to the community then the good they do with content, or the clue by 4 makes them a better person. Either way there's an excellent mod as a result. (yes, I know this method is incredibly intensive, but honestly, their just that stubborn a lot of the time) Unfortunately, a lot of them just need to grow up, or won't change. The golden rule is generally 'Is this a positive action that's improving the situation for myself and the community'. Your much better off trying to improve the status quo, then to trying to insult, deflame and other negative actions.
  10. Thats per version too, at a really high price. Honestly, I was about to buy it untill i realise how scarce information was elsewhere and the per version thing. I'm definatly /not/ going to support such a model.
  11. I /had/ something more constructive to say but then Cheap Shots creeper thing twice in a row was too much awsome creeper thing for me to remain functional *sadface* On a serious note, this sort of thing has been going on with alll the mod packs. Yogbox and any other pack has found themselves stumped all because of a few dramaking mod makers that either want ad.fly pennys, or before that just wanting control and drama. Normaly if someone trys to re-distribute free mods with compatability (or even balance) edits, no one bats an eye lid in normal communities. Most would prefur a quick heads up so they're at leats aware it's being done. I rememeber some of the overhaul mods for oblivion. Generaly, a sign of a good mod was /how meny large modpacks/ are you in. Not 'How much can I split the comunity by making them choose between my mod and all the others'
  12. Theres always the watermil + redpower setup which creates 2eu/tick energy. (aka, cheaper more powerful solar) Slightly less renewable (but long lived) is pumping lava from the nether into an ender chest and extracting it from it for geothermal in the regular world. Else a crazy forestry setup is probably your best bet if you want something that feels 'legit'
  13. Most people here are well aware that content creators have rights. Everyone has various rights. Most people fall in the sensable middle ground. The thing is, even if you have the 'right' to be a douche. Your at the end of the day, still a douche. This goes for creators and consumers alike. Weither you balently violate peoples rights, Be a douche about what you've created, or Rabidly defend peoples right to do so like it somehow justifys it. At the end of the day, you just create drama, and make it worse for /everyone/. People start using the drama as justification, and then it spirils into stupidity. The losers are generaly the 90% of sensable people who want to support mod creators, enjoy their content, and never involve themselves in the drama. Or the people who happon to make similar mods. Or the creators who make their own versions to compete with features the community want. Or the poor community managers (if their not sourcing the drama themselves.) Not to mention all the time /wasted/, the people and creators genuninly saddended and disapointed, and the communities that outright /die/. And if you look at the posts above me, you'll relaise that honestly, 90% of it is hot air, wouldn't hold in a court, and if it did would set dangerious precidents that would destroy modding entirely. Defending Theives, or ego crazy creators, doesn;t help anybody. Better spending your time encouraging the good ones.
  14. I've found the entry on the wiki for pumps, and here it is. Infinite Water Place a pump above a 3 x 3 x 1 deep pool of water for infinite water. The pump must go above one of the four corners of this pool and can be powered by any set of engines you like - the pool will refill itself faster than it will drain, even at maximum pumping speed to empty Gold Waterproof Pipes. a 2 x 2 x 1 deep pool will not work, as the pump will occasionally remove more water than the pool can generate. Larger non-square pools will run out as the pump will eventually take water from a block that won't refill itself properly, and this cycle will repeat until the pool is empty.
  15. Pump + infinite water supply and chunk load blocks says hello, (specificaly 3X3X1). Thats supposed to be perfectly stable. But I must agree that it takes an awful lot of **** to run a buildcraft system. And combustion engines between the water, engines, and server laggyness have a /lot/ more potential fault points then most reactors. The depressing thing is you can use geothermal or Water Mills for much more stable energy and convert it MUCH easyer then trying to use combustion engines. You can run a Mark I or the safer Mark II's with a LOT less risk the a combustion engine X_X.
  16. Redpower retreiver to get the empty buckets out, some kind of tube system to egt the milk buckets in... I'm not sure how to automate the milk gatehring though.
  17. It's the same thing that happons in all creative communites. You get the waten pirates/ripoffs/copys. The people who belive that is wrong. And the 'YOU WILL NOT DOES ANYTHINGZ TO MY WORKZ AS I HAS RIGHTZ' crowd. The last group is huge on drama, and you often see it in places like deviant art or similar communities. Where basicaly people think creating something gives you the right to be a douche. Most of the objections are on 'principle' and more about an egoboost then anything else regardless of what they say or belive. And thats before you bring the /real/ laws into the equation. The thing about mod-packs, so long as they are giving proper credit, is that if you object to them, you are saying that you expect your users to add all these mods manualy, or that you don't want them to have a choice in what they play. Generaly, your just making the people supporting you's life harder, and treating them poorly. Not to mention giving moral justification to the less rule abiding folks on the other side. Which makes evrything messyer.
  18. From what I understand the telepipes have been called (theoriticaly) a good way to reduce server lag as you have simpler setups that don't span the globe.

    Defence

There's teleporters, IC2 iron fences, and a few other quick methods of vertical travel.
  20. There is also a gebnerator from forestry if I recall. Depending on what your doing with it, there are various odditys between them. I recall with on of them you should be sure not to use anme pipes and just place it directly next to it. Some combination of one of the machines with/without pipes will ALWAYS send 32eu packets regardless of need, and as such can waste a lot of energy. I cant remember the thread discussing it unfortunatly.
  21. Could that work in reverse to get status messages from distant machines? (IE, finished)
  22. I'm sure you could /try/ to find someone willing to make a technic specific mod that improves the compatabiliy of two mods... But best of luck finding someone with the time X_X

    Adverts?

You'll have drama either way, if only from people who don't want you hypertheticaly giving in. But honestly, with the current stigma attached to 'entitlement', no sensable person would claim that they should have an ad they can't afford. Generaly with these things you have to just accept there will be drama and do it. Just worry about the 99% of people who are going to be glad to have the security of the server costs payed for instead of the 1% who are /always/ trouble.
  24. Re: Bugs found in Tekkit 2.0 To add to the h key not working, it's also not configarable in the controls screen. The two are probably related. And to be more explicit, the regular mode will quickly rack up a massive fall distance (any downward movement is not counteracted by upward movement). This does mean you can ascend and land and be fine, but going down will always damage you. (Or lots of horizontal travel). *workaroundish* - wear rubber boots. They'll hugely reduce the damage (but break very quickly due to the huge amounts of fall damage). This should make it nearly usable for basic use.

    Adverts?

To be entirely honest, asking for donations to cover 'server' costs is more then reasonable, but would have the obvious overpayment issues. On the advert, how about offering the ad slot to people here? I'm sure people would be willing to pay for a months hosting (or part of it, if you did a rotation) to get that kind of exposure. You know, as opposed to generic targeted ads. perhaps you could ad a tageted ad somehwere on the forums or homepage that does more then just deal with the forum hosting?
