If you're a child, you will have to have your parent provide consent for you to play Minecraft outside of the Xbox Live network through their parental account. If your account is not linked to a parental account, you will have to do that first.

If you've mistakenly entered the wrong birthday resulting in your account being classified as belonging to a child, then you can change it.

I forgot to mention that I'm using linux. fedora 35 + openjdk-8.

I am having trouble logging into the Technic program on my laptop. I go to log into my Microsoft account, and I have checked that I have purchased Minecraft java, and I have, and it still says that I do not own Minecraft Java every time I go to log in with my Microsoft account.

I ran into the same problem. You have to log in to minecraft.net, go to "My Games" and look for the tile that sais "Minecraft: Java Edition". Here, click on the "Profile Name" option and set your name. After that, close the launcher (if it isn't already closed) and delete the oauth-folder under "%appdata%\.technic". Relaunch and then it worked for us just fine 🙂  Hope this helps 🙂
