Hey all,

I recently set up a tekkit server with a few added mods (mekanism, factorization, extrautilities 1.0.3c) and it had been running fine until while playing on it (its only for me and another friend to use through hamachi) it sometimes crashes and when I look at the command window it says "the server is running slow, last tick was ____ms ago" then it says some info about the warning and timeout ms thresholds, then it basically won't start up again and I have to close it. I've allocated 4GB of RAM to the server, which I've heard is more than enough. My i5 3470 runs at 3.2Ghz (3.6Ghz boost) with 4 cores. Do I need more RAM, a better processor, or something else? Halp pls.

  • How much physical RAM does your PC have?
  • What type and size of hard disk drive do you have?
  • How much memory are you allocating to the launcher?
  • What version and platform of Java are you running?

Your PC may be becoming overburdened when running both your local client and the server at the same time. Doing that is always suboptimal but with some tweaking (depending on your answers to the questions above) you might be able to improve performance a bit.

physical RAM is 8GB, HDD is 7200 rpm 500GB, launcher gets 1.5GB, I have java 7 update 67 (64 bit). Sometimes I just leave the server running with no client up and it still does this. Seems to happen more often when client isn't running, which seems very strange. Could be some deeper technical problem with my PC but if you have any tips that would be great.

Without looking at the log files it is difficult to say for sure what it causing the issue. I would recommend reducing the memory allocated to the server. Try setting the server to 2.5G (2560m). If you could provide links to your most recent ForgeModLoader-server-0.log file and your most recent crash report that might help us get closer to the root cause of the issues.

What version of miencraft is being ran also, btw? If possible, I would suggest using Opis as another tool to help show what the issues lay in the world for blocks, entites, etc that may be causing lag itself. This being the next step I would suggest of course after you providing us the server log and crash logs.
