  1. Heh no need for credit, i posted it so that others might be inspired to give it a go. It is a bit less impressive when actually operational - when everything is running, you will just see saplings planted for 99% of the time, and then occasionally a tree will grow and immediately be cut by the harvester. And yes, collecting them all does take time. No easy way around it, just gotta catch em all. Luckily they are pretty easy to see when you're flying around with a jetpack. Bonemeal does work - I used it early on when the farm wasn't completed but I needed a bunch of red and blue dyes for logistics pipes upgrades iirc. Not sure if you can use that with the MFR fertilizer or if you'd have to use some kind of a dispenser setup (as again, I dont use fertilizer). As far as why they're not growing, I'm not sure. Shouldnt be any issues with blockage, but you can bonemeal it just to make sure. Other than that, I've never tried a planter with trees and produce all in one, so maybe there's something about that it doesn't like? Try one with just a tree in it. (and a cobblestone upgrade to limit to 1 block)
  2. Actually I believe you're thinking of the Assembly Table, which is actually a different but similar block. I have never built the Advanced Crafting Table myself, but the only possible advantage I can imagine is speed. The Autocrafting Table has one speed, and it's a fairly slow speed at that. If you point enough lasers at the Advanced Crafting Table, I'd imagine it does the same thing, but faster (at the cost of energy).
  3. Yes, they should work just fine. I don't believe that water has any effect on trees, and personally dont use fertilizer so no comment on that part. mine grow at a typical rate, at least when I provide power to it. proof: my tree farm:
  4. about the rift blade - it will only make a dimensional door (and a one-use door at that) if there is already a rift at that location. it won't make a rift.
  5. basically, no. i'd recommend keeping your stock all as the same type, and autocrafting anything you happen to obtain of the wrong type into the right type, using the unifier: http://wiki.technicpack.net/Unifier. that way you only have to make 1 recipe.
  6. I like this thread! Unfortunately, I haven't taken the time to pretty up most of my machines just yet. However, this is something I always like to do: Name: Zimek's Totally Awesome Rainbow of Leafy-Sheepiness Purpose of construction: Why, it provides me with 'dye' in the form of saplings. Also, less importantly, wool and wood. How it works: MFR Harvesters and planters hooked up with Logistics Pipes via a Tesseract. Basic stuff. Storage chamber is Crystal Chests and more Logistics Pipes. What I especially like about it: I just like it because it's easy to make, pretty, and somewhat useful. I also thought it would be something most people might not have done before. Results go here: Not the most high-tech system, but again I thought it might be something that not too many people do. Hope you like it!
  7. if you want to be able to request from literally anywhere, logistics pipes is the only way to go. all you need is a remote order pipe on a ender chest, like you said, with a synced remote orderer and ender pouch in your inventory. that will allow you to access your entire system from absolutely anywhere (assuming it's all connected correctly at home). Add in another ender chest - pouch combination with an extractor pipe attached to that chest, and you have a way to put items back into your storage from anywhere, meaning you never have to run out of bag space.
  8. they're fine, they just dont do well if you're trying to power thermal expansion machines. you can run a quarry off a solar array, or your MFR farm no problem
  9. Based on everything I've heard, the oil should eventually deplete if it's being pumped correctly. Personally, though, I just block over it to get rid of it.
  10. to my knowledge, there is currently no way to craft blaze rods. you can, of course, craft blaze powder though.
  11. you can just fly around the nether and pick up all the nether redstone you need. nether redstone -> redstone block -> cinnabar + ferrous (which you should really have plenty of) = shiny
  12. here's the best vid i've seen on the topic: And tesseracts really aren't that hard. all you really need is shiny - 2 shiny makes 2 tesseracts, and then you're set. (of course, I'd prefer to use my first 4 shiny on a jetpack instead of tesseracts, as that makes getting additional shiny very easy)
  13. It would definitely be mfr that does it, because the galacticraft solar panels definitely don't, even if you try to pass them thru conduits
  14. Yep, this should be possible. You should be able to do about the same thing with biofuel instead of solar if you wanted to as well. I added on an external mod so I could convert MJ to RF - nobody says you have to stick with just tekkit, unless you're playing on someone else's server I suppose.
  15. well first let's be clear, there is no 'last thingy'. there is always more to do anyhow, personally I use buildcraft pipes instead of liquiducts, but i'd think it should be the same in both cases. all you really need is a place for both to go - just a standard tank for each should be fine. just hook up the pipes to both tanks, and then if any sewage gets in the mob essence tank, destroy it and place it again. once you get the right liquids in both tanks, everything should run smoothly, at least until one of the tanks fills up. Eventually you can upgrade to use logistics pipes or ME, and the liquids will just automatically go to the right place in your storage.
  16. i read somewhere else that the harvesters will actually work, but obviously take forever due to the size. and if it stops for whatever reason, you'll need to build a trunk back down to the harvester so it can connect back up to the leaves again
  17. I mostly just try to do cool stuff. I watch "lets play"s for ideas, or just scan through NEI for interesting looking blocks and then google them. I like to automate things, but not without purpose. Here was my progression for my current world: Start the game. Find a nice hill to put my house on. Build a dirt hut on said hill, progress thru vanilla minecraft up to iron tools, a stack or so of coal for torches, and a fair bit of meat to eat. Mine deeper, find a few diamonds, redstone, gold. Fail to find diamonds. Build thermal expansion machines in order to double ore yield. For a very long time, I ran about 6 machines off 1 steam dynamo. took a while to do things, but I just let it all smelt down while I was off mining, and I wasnt ready to upgrade my house past the 6x6 hut just yet. Build equivalent exchange calcinator and aludel, made my first minium stone using 8x gold boots so that I could get diamonds from gold or iron. Build a basic powersuit and tinker table, mainly for armor that doesn't take durability loss and fall protection on the boots. Crank up the armor to the max. Go to the nether, chicken out and make iron armor instead because I was scared of losing my new powersuit. Needed glowstone, netherrack, and soul sand. Upgrade powersuit with night vision goggles, misc tools and useful things. backpack gains a lot more space. Mine mine mine, gotta get the shiny. May have some already from getting lucky on ferrous pulverizes, otherwise I prefer getting nether redstone -> cinnabar and using that. Top priority = jetpack for the powersuit. (this may be easier now that simply jetpacks is in tekkit) Unlock jetpack, scour the nether for more shiny (and whatever other ores I want) so I can make some tesseracts. Jetpack makes the nether easy. Expand house, build better power solution (I opted for solar, using an outside mod to convert to RF). Still didn't actually complete my house for a long time, just cleared out the area, built the outside walls, and made it spider-proof. Make tesseracts, make quarry, set up quarry in a fairly remote location. At this point, I'm pretty well set up. I can get whatever I need with little difficulty, so it's time to play around. Upgrade the rest of my powersuit with whatever I want. Notice out of control dimensional door rift area near my quarry. Decide to go exploring dimensional dungeons in order to get the items to shut it down. Also not very difficult with a jetpack, and long as you're careful. Build storage solution. I went first for logistics pipes because you can access them from anywhere, and added some ME a bit later for the super-condensed storage, as well as some auto-crafting capabilities that you can't do with logistics alone. Build crafting solution. Again, I went logistics pipes for this, and that is where all my on-demand crafting remains. Build automated farming. Previously I had just fenced in areas for wheat and cows, and manually farmed them. Now, completely automated. Opted to go without fertilizer, because I don't eat THAT much. Build colored tree and sheep farm. 4 sheep of each color, laid out in a nice rainbow, and a tree of each color on a floating glass platform above. Very much my style Build a little more on the house. Explore mystcraft. Make ages, collect pages, make new and better ages. If you get diamond ore, gold ore, or dense ores pages, be very happy. I recently found a diamond page, and then decided to change the floor of my storage room to diamond blocks. Just because. Make a mining laser, discover just how much power it actually requires (omg), make a bunch more solar panels inside a solar-friendly mystcraft age (sun never sets), and they still can't fully power it. Hmm... guess I'll have to go for some kind of reactor sometime soon. Finish the house! I finally have a roof! And that's where I currently am. Next stop for me: finally going to the moon, and after that probably some kind of huge, awesome reactor. PS: This wasn't my first tekkit world, so I had a pretty good idea what I was going for from the start. And there's still plenty I haven't played around with yet and that I'm anxious to try!
  18. interesting, and i just got some ME groundwork in place, too. thanks!
  19. Just wondering if anyone knows of any way to sort items by durability. Spent a while looking for solutions, and haven't found anything yet - even computercraft (my last resort) didn't seem to have anything. While it would be nice to be able to set custom levels (<25% durability takes path A, 25-50% takes path B, 50-75% path C, etc etc), I'd settle for just filtering any damaged items one way, and fully repaired items another.
  20. ^^^ this, or go exploring the nether. if you don't have silk touch, you can get nether redstone, which you can smelt into redstone ore to get the cinnabar. you can also find nether platinum, which gives shiny directly, but is very rare.
  21. there are different upgrades; each increases the range by a different amount, and each machine can only take 1 upgrade at a time (but they are removable). http://wiki.technicpack.net/Range_Upgrades_(MFR)
  22. for the harvester setup: you'll require harvester and planter, and optionally a fertilizer. all can be sized with upgrades to increase the area of the farm, so decide how big you want it first, and then build 2 or 3 of the same upgrade so all the machines are working the same size area. planter goes directly in the center of the area, below the block of dirt (assuming dirt, can also farm netherwart on soul sand). planter needs power and a supply of things to plant. you can supply with logistics pipes or ME, but I'm guessing you haven't set those up yet, so you'll probably just filter the output from the harvester into a diamond pipe, and send the seeds back around to the planter. Harvester should be placed right on top of the dirt (if planter is at height: 70, dirt should be height: 71 and planter should be at height: 72), in the center of one of the sides, facing the farm. It requires power and item output. The harvester will also generate sludge, which you can process with a sludge processor, or just leave in the harvester. It won't hurt anything. If you do choose to process, you will obviously need a liquid pipe out of the harvester as well. Personally, I don't user a fertilizer, but if you want to, you'll have to power it and feed it supplies as well. For the cow breeding, I prefer a two-chambered pen enclosing back-to-back 5x5 areas. The first chamber is for breeding, and the second chamber is for processing. on the breeding side, you have a breeder, which you feed wheat. in the middle, you have a chronotyper, set to pick out baby cows from the breeding side, and move them to the processing side. Then in the processing side, you put a grinder or a slaugherhouse, which will kill the babies when they turn into adults. You can also throw sewers underneath if you want, to create fertilizer.
  23. right on. didnt even realize this wasnt known... makes sense when you think about it though. 4 gold = 1 diamond, so any single item made with at least 4 gold should calcinate to a minium dust, assuming the emc is defined. I just used it as a way to get diamonds earlier if I hadn't found any yet, but did have > half a stack of gold. Burn 8x gold boots, and suddenly you can get diamonds whenever you need.
  24. Any piece of gold armor, fully repaired, should yield minium dust when burned in a calcinator. That's the most useful thing I've found to do with them.
  25. Well that would be another option to fix the same problem. I can agree with all of your points, aside from not liking the look. I think most of it looks pretty cool myself
