The Energy Condenser was part of Equivalent Exchange 2, which stopped updating at Minecraft 1.2.5. Tekkit Classic is the only Tekkit which still has it.

There's an official wiki here, but unfortunately because there were wikis before it was created, those other wikis appear before it in google. Hopefully soon that won't be the case, but it's much better for everyone to focus on one, official wiki than all spreading out to separate ones which might not have accurate or detailed information.

If you stick to recommended builds of the mod, the risk is fairly low. Even if you do venture into more updated versions, for example a latest build, the bugs are usually fairly low (depending on the mod). As long as you keep backups of your saves, the risks aren't too bad. The complexity can vary, but usually not much more than a couple of extra steps. For the most part, it's just a case of dropping a newer version of the mod into the mods folder and deleting the old one, or in some cases the Coremods folder (the page you download the mod from will usually tell you if it's a coremod, otherwise just use the mods folder). Sometimes, you might need to update a mod that the one you want to update relies on, such as CodeChicken Core (a coremod which Minefactory Reloaded needs), but the game will usually tell you if you need to update a particular mod on startup, so it's not hard to work out what you need. If you need to update Forge, just download the latest version for Minecraft 1.5.2, change its name to "modpack.jar", and replace the modpack.jar in the bin folder with your new one. Just make sure you're downloading the version of the mod for the correct version of Minecraft (1.5.2) - the downloads usually state what version of Minecraft they're for, but you may have to search through a Previous/Older Versions section of the page you're getting the mods from to find one for MC 1.5.2. I might have put a lot of text there, but for the most part all you'll need is the first two paragraphs - the game often tells you what you've done wrong if something messes up.

That depends entirely on the mod, the Minecraft version, the mod's Minecraft version, and in some cases the other mods. You can't just make a blanket statement about this with so little detail about what it is you're doing. If you want a more definitive answer, you need to tell us all of the details I just mentioned.

If it was 1.5.1 previously, then it wasn't Tekkit 1.1.7. 1.1.7 was a test build never promoted to recommended, so unless you specifically chose to use that before the 1.1.8 update it wasn't what you were using.

You could try updating your server, which would be a much better solution. If you still want 1.5.1, I think the last recommended build for 1.5.1 was Tekkit 1.0.6.

Have you messed with the config in any way? It looks similar to the ArrayOutOfBounds Exception caused when an ID is set to a number which it can't use. I think Extra Bees is the one causing your problem, so it may be worth checking everything (Configs, Minecraft version etc.) are correct with that.
