  1. It was my understanding no communication from Sengir was received at all. Let alone somewhere publicly copyable like a forum post or irc chat log.
  2. frankly, the public should never have gotten involved in the first place. the reason the relations are as bad as they are now is a result of the flaming misinformation that the public has done nothing but fan the flames of in the first place. Cheapshot, slowpoke, all you guys...honestly, take all the time you need. If you want to keep it behind the curtain with Oz, go right ahead. I would rather see you guys communicating peacefully and patiently then having rushed flaming debates onstage anyway.
  3. sadly that is true its also sad that people will rage vent on a topic before even doing research on either side. but then again, they do the same in politics too.
  4. ease back a bit slowpoke. Now, take a bit of thought on the first bit on your research. I only today got to thinking about those two quotes from kaker, and yes they are always the two used to label the attitude of kaker I see elsewhere. No, I confess I didn't go and verify timings but at the same time, how fast did the yog explosion happen and how long did it take the technic team to get organized and ducks in a row. For people with RL to deal with AND things for fun, a month to come to grips with the beast unleashed. And I'm sure hostility was a blazing right after yogscast as it was. So I'm sure a grain of salt has to be taken there. You make it seem so black and white when I'm sure it was humanly in the grey. As for the FTB thing, that point was purely of my own observation given the mood on various forums, the legality in question, etc... that was going on. Think for a moment from an outside looking in point of the general user and you'd understand with all the flaming on technic at the time when wind of the FTB modpack was coming i'm fairly sure that was the general thought. Perhaps that was your shared thought on the ad comment as well and its removal. Anyway, I apologize for being wrong on that count. As for me and authoring mods, please do not presume to think I have not done any mod authoring myself and thus unentitled to an opinion on respect. I have done a few UI mods for WoW and UO, and even dabbled in an oblivion mod. twice my wow addons were compiled in with large mod packs without asking and I was happy to see them used. While on the same token, I spent 6 months writing the engine behind a website used internally at Ford only to have any and all recognition for my work given to the stylesheet coder instead right in front of my face and an audience of executives. As for this thread, give it time. Like cheapshot said, alot of them are out of town etc... They are communicative though. Let's hope we can get the relations worked out and smoother for a better experience for all.
  5. I think the launcher needs a "custom" option to go with the packs it has already and vanilla. Sort of like nexus mod manager does for those games The user could then add what mods they want in the order they want and troubleshoot/update all in one spot somewhat pain free.
  6. if its ticking for a bit and then times out its more than likely a firewall issue on the other machine. you shouldn't need to specify the port when you're using the default port either. It's only needed when you're binding multiple servers on the same machine. I run vanilla, tekkit, and hack/mine on the same box all on different ports.
  7. um, i've used hamachi since before it was "Logmein" and you've always needed hamachi on all machines and they had to be in the same network group. Otherwise you're not in the same subnet to even ping.
  8. Well, since Torezu did it first Kudo's Simpleguy, superb post. I really think that's why I've stayed on this forum rather than any of the others i've trolled or simply not posted in. And in an effort not to totally derail... When i first saw that banner/ad for FTB's pack I was honestly a bit ticked towards its creator ( not knowing who it was ) for the dig at technic on it. And frankly, when I started reading this thread ( before coffee ) this morning I was equally pissed at slowpoke and even to the extent to throw him in the fanboi IC pile of hate I had come to read elsewhere. 6 hours later though I'm not so much mad, albeit in disagreement on items. It is simply a result of the attitude of moderation here that this is solely possible. Kudo's to the mods here really. I honestly think the stance is rubbing off on the members and it frankly leads to more open civil discussions.
  9. what are you not getting? failed to connect from within the client? kicked off by the server for version mismatch? windows firewall sounds like its the culprit as it will differentiate between specific program names. like if you authorize launch.bat in the vanilla folder, you would need to do the same for the tekkit one in another folder.
  10. Omg, I made it tot he end of the thread. about 5 hours reading here and IC forums. I have come to basically 2 things that are still the burning embers of this situation. 1. permissions. I find it somewhat humorous that it is still a hotly debated issue. Past, present, and future. If I for example were to make a private server for friends and I packed a bunch of mods we liked into it I wouldn't need to ask first either. The simple explosion as a result of yogscast "looking through the window" happened, whats done is done. Now, as a result of THAT explosion people always quote the 2 posts of kaker's like slowpoke did which I believe were made at a time when yes in fact it was created for a private server. Nobody seems to take that into account and think about it. They simply rage that forever is the attitude moving forward from a year ago. This of course brewed in the internet stew and probably led to all the IC forum hate, the forestry debacle, and FC and his forge diatribe. Now, this of course led to the whole FTB pack's drive to get permissions, the drive to have the masses with pitchforks at technic's gate demanding for a permissions thread. And ad infinitum. All of which really is unnecessary and hurtful to the spirit of modding. As I said in irc, this is akin to asking a hot babe for her last aids test results before having sex with her. Expect to get a slap in the face. If you're not a modder, stop asking to see them. If you're a modder and don't want your mod in any particular pack. Ask them to remove it. Now, this of course moves into the second burning ember. 2. respect. I have myself been a programmer and creator of things in the past for other types of stuff. I know the work involved and how recognition can come and not come. A mod made for a game whether open or closed source that gets used alot is a sign of respect by the public at large to the mod author. Can we agree there? By extension a mod that is then compiled within a modpack unmodified and redistributed to the masses and masses is further respect. However, modification of a mod for use within a modpack without expressly contacting the author first is disrespect. It's borderline theft. If I were making a modpack and decided to grab some mods to use in it without changing them, my lack of going to them first and asking permission to do so or even saying "hi, i'm using your mod for this" is not disrespectful. Yeah, it doesn't foster a relationship for future growth in the end either. I see so many bruised ego's out there.
  11. how about just an autoban script for any member with less than 3 posts starting a new thread and a check for "server" "create" "hamachi" and other lovely keywords :)
  12. isn't that no different than a bunch of far off quarries with world anchors to keep them loaded and running? Trying to glean info from the mods thread ( which is usually on the MCF ) is nigh impossible. I was hoping, probably wrongly, that there was some communication between the folks here working on the pack and the authors of the mods in the pack.
  13. i still want an answer on my earlier question ^^^^^^^
  14. definitely the wrong area to post entirely. 1. yes 2. hamachi doesn't use the static IP you have, it uses a hamachi ip and "forwarding" is done via hamachi as long as you port forward hamachi.
  15. so, not only do we have idiot users spouting out info they know nothing about, but now we have moderators too?
  16. riiiiiiiight
  17. the problem is the curse owned forum is considered the official one and as such the community for mojang should mainly be there especially for newcomers. Therefore mojang SHOULD care that the people modding their forum are doing so in an unbiased manner. Or at the very least should be making an effort to stop wrongful rumormill bullshit from spreading.
  18. I just can't believe there's not a higher authority at Curse with a fucking brain that you can communicate with to kick their staff in the ass and do their jobs to stop allowing BS from spreading. If anything, Mojang should smack Curse upside the head. It's their community thats only suffering more and more as the wrong info is allowed to spread while the truth gets censored out.
  19. wow, i don't even know where to begin to rip that fabrication apart. lol. and I'm 99% sure that quote is probably from some dipshit nobody off the forum with no clue as to the mod content or the packs content or any affiliation with either authors/teams.
  20. IMO, I think the best approach to the "what to do now" block that always crops up is to simply build a real vibrant city. Lay out a road network, build housing, shops, work areas, churches, wells, farms, etc... Ultimately that's really all there is to do once you have enough infrastructure to emulate creative mode.
  21. I'm curious what the take on millenaire is from the author's side. Have they been working on the mod itself to improve the lag issues that have plagued it from the start? I think it was a great loss to lose it from the pack, but I don't doubt the logic behind the decision. The same is true I gathered for betterdungeons, but they were slightly better off than millenaire. I'm hoping this one comes back soon.
  22. for the love of christ, permission is not needed for publicly released material. The modpack's point is to provide a package of already available mods to the public. It would be one thing if someone took a mod like forestry and made it simply create sparklefarts as you flew thru the air by grossly changing the code within the mod thereby breaking the copyright ( that they have to apply for anyway ). The redistribution of material that is otherwise available freely isn't even against copyright law provided its unaltered. Now, can we get off the damn permission bandwagon?
  23. so, by internet law if I started this thread down the trail topic to Nazi's or hitler...will that put an end to this thread? :)
  24. thats priceless, but he asked for liable.
  25. These aren't the droids you're looking for.....
