Custom Zip Tutorial *Post here* *Pros help us newbs*
freakachu replied to aquaticsolstice's topic in Tekkit Lite Discussion
they did, it's a youtube video that is linked in the post about custom zips on the front page. super hidden, I know. -
chances are "ping minecraft.net" will work normally, for the same reason his vanilla launcher works without a hitch. if I had to guess, java updated and whatever rules his firewall had in regards to it are now no longer applying because it thinks it is a different program. thus the "it worked before, now it doesn't" situation. yet another example of why personal firewalls are a terrible idea if you don't know what they are or how to use one. turn off your firewall/anti-virus OP.

Problems with pipes. Throwing everything everywhere....
freakachu replied to Marshen's topic in Tekkit Lite Discussion
first off, don't bump your threads and learn to use the edit button. secondly, this is how BC pipes work. stop trying to pump multiple types of ore into your single macerator at once, or start using hoppers or redpower tubes. you could also use more than 1 macerator. -
I am speechless here. what does one say to that kind of stupidity?

the amount of comedy gold contained in this one line is amazing. to answer your question, no. you can't make a custom pack without a URL.
-
optifine is and always has been a jar mod. as for the OP, let me restate something the video you apparently watched with your eyes closed and sound muted explains pretty clearly is that anything that you want modified you have to replace. so, if you are adding jar mods, you need to include a modpack.jar with all the mods you want in it. that will go in the bin folder, because that's where modpack.jar normally is. the same goes for anything and everything you want to "update". it's pretty straightforward.

or maybe, use the recruitment thread in the appropriate forum? that would also help.
-
you need to upload it somewhere. dropbox is an easy way to do that if you know how to use it, but it is not the only way. however, if this is confusing you to the degree it appears to be, you might be better off asking someone you know who didn't get a frontal lobotomy recently.

are they forge mods? if so, the answer is probably yes. also, if they are forge mods you install them like anything else, by putting them in the mods folder.

a little looking around and some guesswork tells me that the most likely issue is a BC tank that is holding something that no longer exists, like creosote oil. were there any creosote oil filled BC tanks hanging around? if so, use worldedit to go in and remove them. hopefully that will fix the problem.

clear your cache after setting up your custom pack. it won't download otherwise, IIRC.

Most Amusing... and a little disturbing.
freakachu replied to RalphRoberts's topic in Off Topic Discussion
mockery. lots, and lots of mockery. edit: I also come here for great deals on ugg boots. but don't tell anyone that. -
that's all well and good, but if you are getting errors about "tanks" being unable to render, I've got news for you: there's only 2 tanks in tekkit and we don't have any kind of modern war vehicle mods. it's unlikely that it is BC tanks that are dying, sooo RC is what's left. if you want more detail than that, an actual error log will be required. if you post one though, please use pastebin or something. the dude was guessing (poorly, I might add). what he said has nothing to do with anything.

I don't use dropbox, but that lack of direct download link is your problem. host it somewhere you can get at it directly. I know dropbox can do this since I've seen it done before, but I have never used it myself. I suggest google.
-
if you paste that link in your browser, does it take you to a web page with a download link, or does it just start downloading it directly? because it it's the former, that will not work.

well you have part of it right. what it means by "ticking world entity" is that it is updating, or ticking, some object and that object is exploding in a most terrible fashion because of it. except for the exploding part, this is what happens every tick normally. every machine/object/thing has a function that is called when a tick happens that it uses to update itself. when that function is running, the entity is ticking. I'm going to guess you had some railcraft stuff, didn't notice that the new tekkit lite doesn't include railcraft, upgraded, and now it has no idea what to do with railcraft tanks and other stuff (like the special carts, etc).

if you want it back, I got 2 words for you: custom zips. problem solved.
-
no, we really don't.
-
didn't you make this exact same thread already? why yes, yes you did. maybe you should try reading that one, hm?
-
the launcher is open source. go check out the git hub and see for yourself. enjoy.

the saves are basically per mod pack. so if you switch to voltz or any other pack you will not have access to your saves from the old pack. however, if you switch back to the pack you were using originally, your saves will be there.

A Complete Toolbox: What Devices Make Any Game Better?
freakachu replied to JademusSreg's topic in The Arcade
I stopped here. it is almost never out of laziness or lack or creativity. 99.999999% of the time it is due to technical limitations. truly unlimited units or whatever would potentially require unlimited resources and I'm not talking about in-game resources. levels cannot be infinitely large (even minecraft levels have limits) so there must be walls or barriers. invisible ones are usually there as a failsafe in case the player manages to get past or around the visible ones. would you rather just fall off the map and be stuck in limbo? time limits generally aren't a technical issue, but a design one. would bejeweled blitz be as popular if you had infinite time? would the scores matter? of course not. time limits are a valid mechanic, not laziness. now I have read the rest of the post. the limits you describe as being "better" are not actually any different. they are just as arbitrary as the kind you are arguing against. why 3 days in majora's mask? it's arbitrary. you simply accept it as reasonable because they tied some story and explanation to it. most games actually DO attempt to justify the limits they impose as well. upkeep costs, like you mentioned, or supplies to support your army. what's the difference between "supply" and "corruption and environmental destruction"? the name. edit: it seems like what you want is to be given enough rope to hang yourself with, instead of the game preventing you from fucking yourself over either on purpose or out of stupidity. (you could let the moon hit the world in majora's mask, corruption and environmental stress being more harm to the player than good eventually, etc) while there is probably something to be said for mechanics like this in certain situations, I think they tend to be more trouble than they're worth unless it is the primary mechanic of the game, like in zelda. -
I had an idea too. what if we combined tekkit, a dougnnut, fast food, technic, mo creatures, thaumcraft, unicorns, rainbows, $15 million, a year's supply of dog food, a brand new car, and a copy of our home game. I'd call it, "fucking retarded". it's brilliant, I know. you mod authors can thank me later once you're raking in the fame and money using my idea, for a modest licensing fee of course. someone better get on this though, because this shit is HOT.
