Because making it easier for people to type in the identifier just makes people scream about it being broken when they mistype something? It's best to copy&paste the pack identifier anyway, so why add extra code to merge strings? Also, the launcher is open source. Nothing is stopping anyone from creating their own platform and hosting their own pack index. If/when that happens, the technic launcher is perfectly capable of using that alternate platform.

You use your minecraft credentials to log into the launcher, the same ones you play vanilla minecraft with the official mojang launcher. Not technic platform or forums credentials.

So you're asking what's going on when you log into the webpage with credentials that work? See, there's this thing called Authentication. The server compares your provided username and password with what it has on record and associates your computer with that identification if they match, for purposes of granting or denying access to website features. It's actually really complicated when you get into the internals and involves multiple stages of request/response and building an encrypted connection based on mutual trust of a 3rd party. There are lots of whitepapers detailing the full process of login used by these websites if you're really interested. They can do a much better job explaining the discrete steps and algorithms used.

The discussion tab in a custom pack's platform entry is the only real way to contact the modpack maker. Use that.

Pick a different name? Pack names are first come first serve. And while there is a rule against copying the name of another major pack (aka, tekkit, hexxit, ect...) there is nothing else. Though the admins have done a purge before, I doubt they are even considering one before the new platform changes roll out. And no, there is no ETA on that.

The guy who posted that server hasn't logged into the forums since last june. There was no action on that thread for 5 months, then 6 posts over the last 4 months asking to join with no replies. I'm curious as to why people dig up half year dead server posts and expect nothing to have changed.

As much as you want it to be technic's problem and duty to fix, it's not. There is only one way we can help you, and that's if you actually use the launcher created and supported by this site. You are not, so we cannot and will not help.

Oh, I'm sorry, you're a programmer adding optifine integration to your java code? Of course the Mod section, with stickies like "HOW do you mod?" and "Modding, Or: How I learned to stop sucking by reading the fucking sticky.", is the perfect place to get help with creating code to use optifine functions to enhance your own mod rendering. How silly of me, I must have completely misread your post and assumed you were another modpack creator too lazy to read the section title and stickies to find out the section was for programmers, not people who take mods and make a pack out of them. Boy howdy do I feel stupid. I just lumped you in with the other dozen "I need help with my modpack" threads I've locked in that section, visible on the first page alone.
