  1. I didn't know about that trick. I normally do a double startup. Like, startup A goes on a loop calling startup B infinitely so if startup B were to be terminated, startup A would just start it up again.
  2. Nope, the bug's still there. Lucky for you, a kind soul took the time to make a patch: http://www.mcportcentral.co.za/index.php?topic=2563.15 Merry Christmas. Now, only if someone did the same to fix the mother f***ing mining lasers...
  3. What dimensional anchors file...? The zip is 48KB. If the mod itself creates a file that is indeed 1.78GB then that file does not get loaded into RAM. That would be ridiculous. Either way I doubt it does. Why the hell would it? Where's this file located exactly? Dimensional Anchors is a mod that adds a block that keeps chunks around it loaded even when nobody's around it. Railcraft has World Anchors that do the same thing, but Dimensional Anchors has a limit on how many anchors each player may place, and also it keeps a larger area loaded than Railcraft's anchors. A player could potentially crash your server by placing large amounts of world anchors everywhere and draining your memory/CPU time so Dimensional Anchors are a much safer approach.
  4. Remove the EE JAR file from the mods folder and voila. Any EE blocks and items will simply disappear. Welcome to the EE-free Tekkit world, comrade.
  5. Yo Keller, check out mah spin-off of your avatar.
  6. >implying Tekkit/Bukkit/Minecraft have multicore support The only way you're gonna be using those extra cores is if you have multi-core capable plugins like Orebfuscator or Dynmap. A blank Tekkit server with no plugins will not use the extra cores at all. Maybe some Java garbage collection threads but that's it.
  7. If you get a VPS, don't sign up for long term. Test them out first. A lot (and I mean the vast majority) of VPS sellers oversell their computers. Sure you get 2 or 4 or 8 gigs of RAM guaranteed, but they don't guarantee how much CPU time you get and they can give you crap in that regard. I moved my server to a VPS twice and both times my server kept freezing up due either to low CPU time or I/O time. The CPU was pretty much the same I have at home and the internet was at least 20 times faster so yeah. Watch out for these.
  8. I started & shut down two servers before I finally got it right. Third time's the charm, hehe. I like what the other guy said: Tekkit is very demanding in regards of awareness. Specially since it keeps changing. With each new version there is a new serious exploit/bug (read: DUPED ITEMS) that you need to deal with, either by banning a certain item or constantly spying on your players until a patch is found. I personally always have a tab open with the bugs section of this forum open and I check it often. I've seen two posts deleted regarding serious dupe glitches that I wouldn't have seen had I not been regularly checking on the board. Mods delete these threads so the information doesn't fall into the hands of malicious players. Another issue is land protection. A lot of Tekkit items bypass WorldGuard/Factions/Towny/whathaveyou and you can't do anything about it. There is a patch for EE items but I still haven't found fixes for mining lasers, dynamite, nukes, and turtles. WorldGuard is better at this than Factions. GET ALIENX'S VERSION OF WORLDGUARD - LOOK IT UP ON HERE. I can program a turtle to walk into my foe's Faction-protected base, drop a nuke in the middle of their storage room and make it blow.
  9. Seconded. Frames also crash my client but only sometimes. I've yet to determine the crashable conditions. I used to have an 'airship' that moved for several minutes (controlled by a complex ComputerCraft navigation system composed of several turtles, so you know it isn't CC's fault) and never crashed, but the other day I made a frame machine to do some flooring and it crashed on the 5th movement and it kept crashing my game every time I logged in, until it hit a wall and couldn't keep moving. VERY annoying. :/
  10. Why would you even want to do this? о_О Anyways, make sure you removed all the IC2 addon mods too like Compact Solars and Energy Converters.
  11. You can. New height limit in 1.2, remember? I had a whole base up there. I took it down because IC2 machines were glitching up the same way they do above layer 128 in the overworld... I hope they fixed this. XD
  12. Umm... take a bunch of Speed II potions on a ender baggie, run for five hours, make a portal, emerge 1 million blocks away from spawn. One player did this on my server... the only base that hasn't been griefed so far even though everyone knows the exact coordinates. XD
  13. LOGOUTEVATOR. LOVE IT. XD You can use that to get to the roof of the nether. :3
  14. Yeah... close the thread... till you can't figure out how to set it up. XD
  15. Update: Disk drives have been re-enabled on the server thanks to this community fix: http://www.mcportcentral.co.za/index.php?topic=2563.15
  16. Oh MAN... Why do threads not notify after a while? This fix is amazing! :D
  17. There's a popular thread in the... fuck it, I'll look it up for you. ... Here it is: http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/patch-for-ee-mining-tools-no-more-griefing-with-them.6642/ Patch for EE tools. The only other things that CoreProtect doesn't log is that god damn mining laser (only its explosive mode) and nukes and dynamite from IC2, so you can choose to disable that or perhaps only give it to trusted players.
  18. scandic.us:25573 <-- 100% legit and EE-free server for you guys to play at. There's plenty of players willing to help you out... and plenty of players willing to nuke the crap out of you.
  19. If you just want a public server, you're more than welcome to join mine: scandic.us:25573 <-- free & 100% legit. 20 players max. Enjoy. :P
  20. Dude, I'm running a dev build and it works just fine. It's not even the latest dev. But yeah, for some reason you're right too, based on my experience hosting a vanilla server, I've had the most problems with RB's. Like, the devs work just fine but then they release the RB and come up with a new one two hours later because of something serious like a dupe bug or some shit. I recall this happening twice so far. XD
  21. I see. Yeah I'd be pretty pissed too. I'd want all the moolah for my brainpower too. >.< I watch the Netflix version and all the subs say Cylon, but I've seen them spell 'Baylin' like five different ways on Kyle XY... XD
  22. What kind of trouble...? SOPA much? o_O Btw nice cylon. :D
  23. The rules say: No Adf.ly links - This board is an adf.ly free zone. This is a catch all and includes adcraft or anything else that gives someone money for clicking a link. You will be banned for posting any links like that. I'm just curious why a lot of forum sites do this. What's wrong with Adf.ly? I don't really use it myself because I'm a lazy unproductive **** with nothing to offer in link form but I'm sure someone who makes a mod or something would benefit from getting a cent or two per click. :P
  24. I think you got dev build and RB backwards... Devs are the shitty initial ones for edgy and desperate server owners, RB's are the stable ones. :P
  25. You may use my server: scandic.us:25573 Travel far enough from spawn and nobody will bother ya. :D
