Did you realize that Minecraft 1.6.4 and Tekkit 1.2.9e are, for all intents and purposes, two different games? You seem to be crossing them, which of course doesn't work. Tekkit may be based on Minecraft, but a Tekkit server is only compatible with Tekkit clients.
-
There were substantial changes between Tekkit 1.1 and 1.2. You will need a converter tool, and even with that you still lose most of your installations on that server. Only worth the hassle if there are some great monuments made from non-mod blocks on that server, or it has great sentimental value.

BC pumps may be enough if you run enough of them. But the reliable method to drain large bodies of water is filling them up with Sand or Gravel (BC Filler can help), then removing the filling again (BC Quarry to the rescue). If you don't have enough sand, hook up a cobblestone generator to a Pulverizer, or alternatively pulverize surplus Netherrack for Gravel.

I only ever broke Portable Tanks containing water, and it would eliminate the water. I think all Thermal Expansion containers drop empty if you pickaxe-break them, as opposed to shift-wrenching.
-
In case of Portable Tanks, just break them with a pickaxe and they will drop empty. Apart from that, what Kotja said.

There is no need to run the dedicated server locally on your machine, although it is possible to do so. But as badkruka hinted, it sounds like you are starting the wrong client version. A Tekkit Server cannot work properly with a vanilla Minecraft client. You need to start Tekkit from the Technic Launcher. You could also just skip the dedicated server part and play Tekkit from the client. The dedicated server is meant to run independently, which is useful if you plan on playing with a few friends (either locally or over the internet).

Tekkit Server Wont Load After Power Surge Last Night
Curunir replied to KingSlayer33284's topic in Tekkit Discussion
You are supposed to post issues on the tracker, but this one is trivial. From what I can see here, the error is (as usual) somewhere in Dimensional Doors, so you should try removing dimensional data. As a rule, make frequent backups of your world save. Minecraft tends to fail ungracefully on crashes, and corrupted world files are very common. -

This is Tekkit Discussion, not Moonquest troubleshooting.

Smells like Dimensional Doors. Remove additional dimensions and try again.

The version checks on the console are normal behaviour (even the failures) and should not preempt your world from loading. Please use the standard procedure for reporting issues: Post on the issue tracker, following the template.

The relaunch concerns the launcher, not Tekkit or the other modpacks. The devs have stated, however, that their goal is to make it easier for users to find modpacks of interest via the launcher, and enable some social features as well. So we can expect a much better overview of what is actually in the launcher when the relaunch goes live. Right now, it is somewhat tedious to even find stuff in there, besides the few obvious/popular ones. I guess the new Technic Launcher will get closer to what the FTB launcher already does, and maybe some things on top. If you are just trying to get a start in a modpack, Tekkit is a good place to start right now.

It is correct that Conduits do the converting, and that they only convert to MJ output, but will ignore MJ producers. It is therefore not recommended to even bother with MJ producers, with the possible exception of Galacticraft Solar Panels. Note that those only work with their own Aluminum wiring. They also tend to glitch when integrated into an RF power grid. I was under the impression that MFR is somewhat integrated into the RF world by now, which should also mean that Biofuel Reactors should be able to output RF. However, I cannot verify that right now. Generally, you want Dynamos for early game power generation and a Yellorium Reactor for mid to late game. BigReactors may look a little dauting, but it is actually quite simple if you start small.

Technically, we cannot have circles in the digital world. All we have are circle approximations, which increase in quality proportionally to resolution. Nice job with the approximations, though. I once built a round tower, which took quite some time to get right. For manual work, I highly recommend using an Extra Utilities Builder's Wand once you have laid down the ground layer.

FeedTheBeast tends to be the "sandwich-with-everything", i.e. many of its packs are large and inclusive, with many redundancies and high resource costs. You will need a rather current and well-equipped computer to run them properly. Tekkit does have higher requirements than vanilla Minecraft, but it is for the most part rather balanced and focuses on a few resource-efficient core mods. Notable exceptions from this are Mystcraft and Dimensional Doors, and to some extent Galacticraft. With the Technic Launcher relaunch pending, let's have this discussion when that one goes live.

Can I add two furniture mods to my Tekikit install?
Curunir replied to dreamer1986's topic in Tekkit Discussion
If the game starts without issue, you have no ID conflicts. It may be that some mods can be added safely without even causing them, as seems to be the case here. ID-Fix tools can introduce more problems than they solve, so be careful with them. As a rule, don't fix it if it isn't broken. What you should do is make frequent backups of your world, especially when tinkering with additional mods. Sometimes they will break stuff, and having a fallback copy of your world is highly recommended even during normal play. There are quite a few hard-to-fix issues with world files. -
The current dedicated server is here. You will usually find the link to the current build in the pinned announcement post at the top of this forum section. It has no updater, so you need to manage version upgrades manually. Make sure your clients are set to use a fixed Tekkit version, too, if you cannot respond quickly to updates. As for installation, you just unzip the server files, configure server.properties to what you want and move your save into a sub-directory right next to the server files. That directory name needs to be given as the world name in server.properties, so the server will use it when starting up. When there is no saved world or you gave the name of an empty or non-existing directory, the server will generate a new world during start-up. You start the server with launch.bat on Windows, or launch.sh on Unix (and Linux/MacOS). The server is controlled with the terminal you opened it in, so try entering "stop" <return> to quit. I am no expert on Hamachi, but I guess when it works in your current solution, it should work with a dedicated server as well. The best way to host a Minecraft server on your connection is forwarding the server port and connecting via plain WAN (=Internet). Hamachi is primarily for VPN gaming, to enable games that don't support WAN connections, or don't work well with them. P.S.: Regarding port numbers, the default Minecraft server port is 25565 and can also be changed in server.properties if required. It is static by default, so I'd be surprised if it became dynamic in your case. A dynamic port may be a side effect of using the (relatively new) "open singleplayer game to LAN" function, but I'm not sure about that. Just try and see how it comes out.

Can I add two furniture mods to my Tekikit install?
Curunir replied to dreamer1986's topic in Tekkit Discussion
Optifine does work if you use the correct version, although I could not detect a performance boost. It is nice to have options to crank up the graphics, though. When adding block mods, beware of ID conflicts. -
This thread predates TE3. In TE2, you could still use MJ, as TE was MJ-based. Now we have TE3 with the Redstone Flux power system, so Sterling Engines are considered legacy and should not be used. This is also one of the >frequently asked questions (number 003).

I do think that once you have an ME network running, you should be beyond quarries anyway. But to each his own. Impulse Itemducts are an option if you really manage to overload regular ones. But given a quarry running at normal speed, a regular Itemduct will drain its buffer chest at a sufficient rate. Whenever the quarry is pulling long stretches of the same block (mostly cobble), there will be enough time for the Itemduct to pull several stacks out. With a sufficiently large buffer chest, it will work just fine - I recommend a Reinforced Strongbox.
-
Interesting. You did link back to an older, >more extensive one yourself. But right now, I'm not seeing anything back there that is asked frequently enough to be here. If you think I overlooked something, please point it out.
-
Don't recommend late-game equipment to solve early-game problems. Tesseracts are overkill to solve this when you just start quarrying. Itemducts are fast enough to keep up with a full-speed quarry, although there can be some congestion when the quarry encounters lots of different block types in a short time frame. Use at least a Reinforced Strongbox as a buffer chest and you should never have "buffer overflow" problems - if, and that is important, there is no congestion further down the line. I recommend setting up four DSUs, one each for Cobblestone, Dirt, Gravel and Sand (the latter is only really necessary when you quarry in the desert, which I usually do). All other stuff should fit into one or two further Reinforced Strongboxes along the pipe, or you could opt to directly pipe ores into a processing chain. It may be that extraction from Alchemy Chests is slower than from TE's own Strongboxes. If so, you could still attach two Pneumatic Servos and extract from two sides of the chest to effectively double extraction speed. Maybe set one side to only extract dirt and cobblestone.

1.2.6 update causing lag spikes every 5-10 seconds
Curunir replied to Phoenixious's topic in Tekkit Discussion
There is no Java System variable in Windows by default. If you find none, that is fine. The variable is set temporarily when you run launch.bat (or launch.sh in Linux) and will allocate a sane amount of RAM. Problems only arise if you have a global variable set that overrides the launch.bat setting, like the one Phoenixious found. So if there is no variable set globally, you should be fine. If one is set, maybe another Java program needs it, so you should try to alter the amount to something suitable for Tekkit - or remove it entirely and disregard that other program.
