Most people don't have troubles. MineOS was developed off of crux so you can run a server from home with the smallest footprint possible. Basically it's so you can turn that old dell into a dedicated MC server quickly. It's not necessary, but I thought it a was a cool idea. I've used it in a VM for a LAN and it took me 5-10 minutes from start to finish to have a server going.

Got this from the MineOS google group. If you use it or need a super simple way to set up a server, then this is some good news for those interested in tekkit.

I would take better dungeons out and put battle towers in. they're less laggy and not OP.

This is why I think there needs to be an EE lite. the tools are awesome and make the simple stuff like mining and smelting easier and less tedious. I'm ok with the idea of the condensers if they operated at a much slower level. You should have to build a giant crazy machine to get enough EMC to make it worth it.

the board is stable but kinda old. 8 is it's max. Plus, that's really all anyone needs. 16GB is overkill unless I plan to serve files/games with it. When I build my fragbox/HTPC, I'll upgrade the board and RAM and make this box my NAS but until then, I think I'm good for awhile. yes, I could easily play portal 2. If you're just playing games, you don't need 16GB of RAM. Windows can only utilize so much address space regardless of the CPU/OS architecture. The only possible reason for needing 16 would be for at least 4G of RAM disk.

the thing is, 6 cores isn't actually better no matter the architecture. Even if he had applications that would utilize all 6 cores, the performance boost is so significantly lower when compared to the difference between 4/2 cores, that it's just not worth the extra hundreds of dollars. Saving those extra hundreds of dollars could go into future proofing on a GPU or two.

1) You don't really need 6 cores unless you plan on running intense mathematical simulations on high velocity particles colliding in space or trying to render the scenes from cars from the Pixar files. 2) overclocking doesn't offer enough of a performance enhancement to risk damaging your entire system. The difference from 2.8 to 3.4 would be barely noticeable, if at all. 3) overclocking doesn't necessarily make things noisier. That just depends on the cooling system you use. It would have to run more often with greater intensity. If you're going to overclock, you want a water cooling system. 4) any chip that makes it easy to overclock could be seen as "worse" because, even if done correctly, the clock times aren't stable which could result in stuttering, machine check exceptions, or even hardware failure. IMO: get a 4 core i7. sandy or ivy bridge are more than adequate. don't worry about overclocking. You won't see the difference. 4GB of DDR3 will be fine for most applications and 8 is decent for gaming. anything more is really only needed for server applications. as far as the GPU is concerned, the difference between super high end and high medium is not worth the price. I just bought a radeon 6850 for 150. I can run minecraft, firefox, xbmc, and fraps and still get 35-40 FPS in MC. I get nearly 120 when I switch technic for dolphin.
