Use 7zip instead of winrar. It is actually (not technically) free and has a simpler interface, making it more noob friendly.

Zip and rar aren't the same format. It will corrupt the archive if you rename it.

This is assuming that the two major time travel theories don't apply. The first one being that you can't change anything, sand the second being that a small change would ruin everything.

Don't forget to add anything that would normally go into the minecraft.jar to modpack.jar

Please tell me your mod repo isn't fully stocked. You will have to totally remake your whole solder repository if it is. Each mod zip you upload is like a tiny custom pack with only the mod in it. for example, let's say I wanted to add SparkleFarts mod. I set the modslug to "fart," then make a new directory on my web host called "fart" I download version 0.dong of the sparklefarts mod, so I put the sparklefarts mod in a folder called "mods". I then zip that "mods" folder, and name the zip "fart-0.dong.zip" I upload THAT to my fart directory, then add it to a pack! the zip that solder downloads is extracted directly. I had this exact same problem, and every mod in my repo started spewing class files all over my modpack directory.

I make bases out of xychorium! Crisis averted.

I don't know how it can import packs from platform automagically (I didn't have to in my case,) but click some buttons. Even changing the core settings doesn't harm anything if you edited them directly into solder.php like you should have.

You don't understand WHY people have modpacks that have machines that do similar things is the thing. Every mod gets it's job done in a different way. It isn't literally mods that do Identical things, (IE, having two mods that add electric engines or whatever,) it is different ways of getting things done. Thermal Expansion machines make for nice, compact builds that typically work slowly. IC2 machines make for larger setups that work very rapidly. To each, their own, but everything you say further shows you just looked at mods lists, looked at the basic functions of what each mod does, and then didn't fully experience the other modpack.
