Jay? Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Why would you buy Alienware? You can buy a MacBookPro for 2500bux and it has a core2 duo.... Or you could build a much stronger computer yourself, for half that, and get a machine with a 6 core i7.
xardas Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 My attempt to add sarcasm to my previous post clearly failed, I apologize. Alienware(Dell) & Apple are my two least favourite choices.

Oh, well it's hard to tell sometimes. Also Macs are pretty great for artists and people who are [severely] not tech savvy, so a Mac might have been a realistic suggestion.
xardas Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 True. But the onlyglowing mac's have is the apple on the back of the screen... clearly would not have impressed this person as he/she wants to be blinded by his/her laptop! Actual useful advice, if you are purchasing a laptop, stay clear of Optimus Technology, personally... I hate it with a passion, I can understand that some people will like it. But know what it is before you decide!
uranium2011 Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Who doesn't love shiny lights and metal plates that are prone to overheating, who cares about that thing called performance or reliability? Alienware has got to be one of the most colorful and cheap computers on the market.

WTF Is this!? laggy as hell, Why do you mean I can't upgrade the graphics!? What's propriety!?... Happens every time.

psycho54 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Instead of wasting your hard earned dollars on some pointless math machine why don't you purchase Log by Blammo? It's better than bad. In fact its good!

In fact its good! I have tried it once, its good at exactly I want it to do, nothing. But I prefer the rock, its both an excellent math machine if you have a chisel, it makes an excellent pet, and its a really good paperweight.

Well here i was at the market looking for a new laptop, and strangely when googling "gaming laptops" you get Alienware as top search. Good thing i checked this forum I see your all flaming many brands here, what's your take on Asus then? Any personal issues there?
vibur Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Well here i was at the market looking for a new laptop, and strangely when googling "gaming laptops" you get Alienware as top search. Good thing i checked this forum I have had two Alienware laptops and have not had problems with either. I have never, however, owned an Alienware desktop. If you don't want to buy from Alienware, that's cool, but I wouldn't suggest going to either of the places recommended in the thread so far (Tiger Direct or ibuypower). Neither of them has a good reputation.

Neither of them has a good reputation. I haven't heard much bad about them. My machine from them runs like a dream come true. The price wasn't bad for what i got either. iBuyPower also has pretty frequent deals, special upgrades and crap. I got all my ram upgraded from standard to specialty performance ram for free.

Neither of them has a good reputation. I should add that as far as Tiger Direct goes, they're not bad for parts. I usually buy from either them or New Egg and I've really not had a bad part. Now, full on computers I haven't bought retail/preassembled just because I don't trust someone else to put one together for the many "untrained monkey" reasons posted before me. Plus building your own box ensures that you know what's in which helps diagnose any potential hardware problems down the road. You can also put in the lights and whatnot without hindering air flow.

Building your own is almost always the most effective and cheapest solution, but not everybody has the know-how to do it. For "primitive-monkey" reasons.

That's where a case of beer (or similar) as a bribe comes in handy. I build my friend's machines, it saves them money and I know they have a decent enough rig to play the good games.
hoho Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I got all my ram upgraded from standard to specialty performance ram for free.Too bad that real-world performance increase is somewhere around measuring error level.
Pilchard123 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 If you're in the UK try pcspecialist.com . I don't know how they are, I haven't got one, but a friend of mine had one from there and doesn't seem to have a problem. They let you specify each part (from a selection), but again IDK if that is a standard thing or not.
techmaster21 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Well here i was at the market looking for a new laptop, and strangely when googling "gaming laptops" you get Alienware as top search. Good thing i checked this forum I see your all flaming many brands here, what's your take on Asus then? Any personal issues there? My laptop is an Asus, and I have never ever had a problem with it. I took the whole thing completely apart, disconnected the monitor and everything, put it back together, and the only thing I broke was the WiFi switch(Hated that thing anyway) I burnt the touchpad with a mini torch, twice, scratched it to hell with a metal thing, and it still works just fine. and I've had it since June of... last year? Not a whole lot of time, But time enough to say, while it is pretty banged up in some places mostly due to my own fault, it still runs beautifully. Mine is a G60JX, I can't really speak for the newer ones, but this thing has not let me down yet, and i'm still able to play a lot of the newer games(albeit some of them on medium-low) Plus I also bought a tablet from Asus and that thing is a trooper. I've bricked it at least twice, and it just keeps resurecting itself lol. Basically: Can't go wrong with Asus.
TheGuy Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 whoop whoop Basically: Can't go wrong with Asus. Never had an Asus, only Dell, msi (russian lolz), Infinity (I hope you know what that means), and lenovo (a tiny-arse 10" computer). What bugs me is that I have a 1/5th of the HDD space of a tiny-arse lenovo 10" notebook ;_;

MephistosChan Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 From the OP's screen cap he's playing 1.2.5 and therefore the dev build. A problem with a dev build, well I never, who'd of thought.
TheGuy Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 On the Dell on the snapshot it goes at 60FPS (except in jungles, there it goes ~20)
LazDude2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Well, can you get me a link to some site that custom builds and engraves your name onto it and has customizable lights and epicness? (Also a mouse that has customizable lights?) Origin. They'll build you a PC that will BLOW YOUR MIND for about half the price of an equal build from the competition. Plus, the name is so cool. Origin. Who wouldn't hand them a couple grand?

To get the same specs i got from iBuyPower, it was almost a grand extra, AND i didn't get as much variety in case choice.
