  1. I don't host dedicated through other people/companies so the users of the forum would be able to give you better feedback on their hosts and such; I run mine own and it's non-public. I recommend either experimenting back and forth with hosts or really reading around to find the one that provides the best service for a price you're willing to pay (it's what I had to do with web hosts for about 1-2 years for some of my sites).
  2. At the moment, I don't know what to tell you except that the people you're paying for hosting should offer more support for installing a bukkit-based mod pack. Hopefully someone who can break down those logs can offer you more help.
  3. If they run bukkit, install bukkit. Delete it in your FTP client. Install Tekkit. Rename tekkit.jar to whatever your bukkit.jar's name was. Try launching. Report back. You could also tell them to get off their asses and help you since you're paying them...just saying.
  4. It'll be updated after you finish explaining to everyone how to manually select a build.

I've done many custom cooling solution and all I can say is: water cooling on a laptop is possible but unless you plan to extend the thickness of your laptop, it'll only be good on docks with quick connectors. Cooling mats with great fans will word only if there are sufficient air intake where the air cooler blows in (the bottom). My girl's laptop (G72, I think) sucked until we took the bottom panel off which increased the airflow about 500% because of her cooling pad. Unless you find a crazy builder or are proficient yourself in modding and water cooling, don't hold your breath for a laptop water cooling solution; however, you can get good cooling solutions on laptops designed to allow certain modifications or by chopping some parts apart and muscling it.
  6. + It will if you path the 64 bit java installation. Mine runs on Java 7 and I don't have Java 7 32 bit installed. I have the same OS as indicated above as well. Remove all the java and reinstall Java 7 64 bit. If it doesn't run, check the path in environmental variable and then report back.

The new Asus G75 looks promising and I have 2 friends in the service that are elated with their G74s and use them as desktop replacements for gaming on deployment. If you have the cash to blow, you could also go to the serious custom builders that essentially build enthusiast-level gaming laptops. They battle it out on specs constantly so I can't even tell you which one to check out but Origin PC is one I've looked at in the past (Falcon too). In short, I'm not a big laptop fan because you pay a nice premium to shrink that power down which brings me to my main point; the more tech you squeeze in there, the hotter it's going to get. Regardless of the laptop you go with, make sure that its cooling system is your number one consideration (what's the point of playing your favorite game at super graphics if your computer locks after 15m of intense heat). Check if people have modified the model you're thinking about purchasing to increase its heat dissipation and check the design to see how the company is battling the heat. If it gets hot, it gets useless for gaming very quickly.
  8. Delete tekkit directory. re-install. If problem, bring back logs.
  9. Well, the server will take mods that are ported for bukkit. Therefore, you'll have to try bukkit repositories like MCPortCentral ( http://mcportcentral.co.za/wiki/index.php?title=Ports_for_1.2.5 ). Once you install the mods you'll have to ensure you troubleshoot id conflicts and such but once that works, install the mods client-side, match up the ids, and play. It a complicated process but if you dig, you'll find tutorials for how people added specific mods.
  10. What did you install it into and why did you remove META-INF? Try starting fresh, installing those into the modpack.jar, and then report back.
  11. Why do you keep a 32 bit installation of Java installed? If you replace it with a 64 bit installation java and path it right, your stuff will launch with 64 bit java.

Unless you're running a hell of a server 16Gb is more than any normal computer would need (unless you're running specific types of software) but regardless, all specs depend on needs and budget. If your budget is unlimited, I can drop a 32Gb RAM, top CPU, duel PSU, and quad SLI or dual Crossfire 3970 or something similar (and something like phase change cooling) on you but dream machines aside, all builds depend on how much you're willing to spend, what you need it for, how long you plan to keep it for, and how much you want to upgrade it in the future before you rebuild from scratch.

    Building Ideas!

Lately I've built a park and am currently considering gold and lapis-based monuments. Otherwise, I am still trying to figure out how to build the Taj Mahal in 1:1 scale or possibly at twice the size considering it's smaller than I thought it'd be. I also consider recreating famous landmarks such as the statue of Chirst the Redeemer in Rio and other such monuments throughout the world. I also wouldn't mind recreating Machu Picchu but I don't think I'd be willing to take on that project unless we had something like cubic chunks going so I could place them at the proper elevation above sea level. I'm still working on perfecting my interpretation of an Oracle building in Greek style architecture and a recreation of the Oracle of Delphi. In short, I think about many projects but I enjoy recreating monuments within MC (most just for myself ;p).

I'll be honest, I haven't read through all the pages regardless of their merits. I will, however point out something I hope at least 10 people have pointed out thus far, (most) modern Alienware computers are just overpriced Dell computers using crap components (no offense intended to those who actually paid for them). I highly suggest you build your own (desktop) or buy a solid gaming laptop that meets your needs (I like the new ASUS that actually cares about the number one problem with laptops, heat dissipation). Edit: never mind. I didn't realize this thread was almost a month old so by now most have probably pitched their two cents.
  15. @OP, it's funny that you mention that because I do that to at least half my posts. I find it a little funny when I type out a (possibly) witty remark to some idiot and I just stop and say f- it and go do something else.
  16. Check this http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=2444 Otherwise, re-install forestry, if you trust it, find one of the power conversion mods that are acceptable to you (assuming you're running the server), or start refining fuel or creating steam engine factories that use automation to fuel them.
  17. I was going to be nice and type a response but I changed my mind. I decided to try and be even nicer and created a thread on the technic forums because 1) most of the SSP information like that is most relevant on that forum and 2) SMP people should know how to do this stuff before they launch a server (which is really the only time they need to do it). I hope this helps. http://forums.technicpack.net/index.php/topic,12415.0.html If you have any good questions, I will try to answer them on there unless someone gets there first with the right info or I go walkabout.
  18. Use NEI to create a block id dump of what is free and what is in use (turn off mods you won't use before you do so). Install new mods. Assign them IDs that are free based on that block ID dump. I'd just go Technic and remove mods you don't use and add mods you like but the process is basically the same.
  19. Good for a laugh though. They had you going ;p
  20. Delete tekkit directory, install again, report back with results and logs (if you still have a problem). I'll be nice. %appdata%/.techniclauncher then delete the tekkit directory (backup any important files or settings you have).
  21. 32bit OS, 32bit java. Covered here: http://forums.technicpack.net/index.php/topic,11868.msg83933.html#msg83933
  22. Yup. http://wiki.industrial-craft.net/index.php?title=Generator
  23. 30% FPS drop here. When I added MineColony my game was nearly unplayable. I can still do alright with 128x and all the mods but, yes, the performance drop has been pretty significant. I may actually try out that 64x once the poster a few above me re-sizes it to boost back over 60.
