  1. also, if you're after movement speed, look into modular power suits.
  2. lothos, look at your response. now, look at cheap's response. regardless of how easy or hard it is to remove misleading ads, which do you think makes the author look like a reasonable person with good intent and a desire to do something about the completely legitimate concern brought up by the OP? I'll give you a hint: it's not yours. leaping to conclusions and calling people idiots for not doing the same doesn't really make for a solid argument. obviously it's not as easy as it sounds to avoid ads like this. nowhere in this thread other than your posts has anyone said anything about forcing the admins to spend tons of time policing ads. you, yourself, are leaping to that conclusion as the only obvious solution to the issue and then branding it obviously dumb and therefor the problem isn't a problem, also the people bringing it up are, by association, blithering idiots. that isn't sound logic. the fact is, it's obviously a concern as cheap has stated. in addition to that, they do try to cut down on them as best they can. let me highlight a part of that last sentence before you make another logical olympic long jump: AS BEST THEY CAN. that does not imply perfection. that does not imply 24/7 coverage. that does not imply 100% satisfactory results. that does not imply undue burden on their time. in closing, calm. your. tits.
  3. put your pitchfork and torch away, he's pointing out a legit issue in a respectful way. nobody wants ads like these making downloading the launcher harder than it needs to be. fact is that there are things the admin staff can do and it's been brought to their attention so that they are able to do so.
  4. client will absolutely never need more than 2-2.5G in almost any situation. servers can and do use more because they are keeping a lot more in memory than the clients. platform is not relevant in terms of memory allocation
  5. that's a decent amount, but I don't know if it's 8 gigs worthy. I rather doubt it though.
  6. the reason has to do with garbage collection and how java handles memory. when memory is allocated, it stays that way until a certain amount of time has passed, or an upper limit of allocated memory is reached. at that point, the garbage collector does what it does best, collect garbage. it goes through all available memory and frees any that is no longer in use so it can be made available to the application once again. this all happens seamlessly in the background. once you get over a few gigs of memory, that process starts taking longer and longer as it has more and more memory to clean. unless you're running a large server with many players and/or loaded chunks, 8gb is overkill on a massive scale no matter the size of your logic system.
  7. whoops, didn't read the OP carefully enough apparently. in that case, the only recourse is simply fullscreening the window using fn+f11 on most laptops. sometime it's overridden to simply maximize the window and not fullscreen it, which may need to be disabled first. edit: once you get in-game, you can go into options and toggle fullscreen to on, that should cause it to fullscreen automatically once it reaches the main menu. depending on your laptop, that may take several minutes. as for some mods not working or showing up, could you expound on that a bit? do you mean not appearing in the launcher, or in game? which mods? all of them should work, even on mountain lion. I've done it personally. lastly, the reason there's a mac download is because the game is compatible with macs, as are all the mods in it. the window issue you're having is not actually a problem with tekkit, it's a problem with older macOS java VMs and LWJGL, a library that minecraft uses. there's not much we can do to change it on our end, unfortunately.

    New PC Help

it'll probably run in decently. certainly playable I would imagine.
  9. the issue is the version of macOS. that's why it works on the mavericks mac, while not on the mountain lion one. update macOS. edit: and don't max out your ram usage, it will cause more issues than it solves. 2-2.5GB MAX is more than you should need allocated to the game, even for a pack like big dig with tons of mods. increasing it past that will actually slow the game down due to how java works. I'd go into more detail but it's complicated and very computer sciencey no matter how you slice it.
  10. this is the wrong place for help with launcher problems. try the launcher bug board for that, I hear that's what it's for. also, make sure you disable your firewall (or exempt java, if you know how) and if you have a program installed called "relevantKnowledge" remove it. alternatively, minecraft's servers could have been getting hammered over christmas.
  11. having fun is great and all, but people are actually stupid enough to run a batch file that deletes their whole C drive thinking it will help. don't pretend to be giving "advice" that will brick a person's PC.

    Name change

well, the last guy I remember did get a name change. it just wasn't what he really wanted....
  13. for the most part, criticism that is deserved isn't a problem. the only times it is is when the person doing the criticizing is like "HEY MAN, FUCK YOU YA DICKBAG! HOW ABOUT YOU GO EAT A BAG OF DICKS WHILE REREADING THE SERVER POST RULES, NUBCAKE! SNAP! EPIC BURN!" you get what I mean. you can tell someone they're out of line without resorting to overly inflammatory invective.

    Voltz

it'll update when it updates. there's no ETA and there never will be. patience is a virtue.
  15. there is no ETA on voltz updates, or any other pack updates for that matter. the best I can tell you is that they are being worked on. I have personally seen this happening, so I'm not just spitting platitudes at you. that said, don't ask for ETAs. ever.
  16. they've always had this power. see pistons, hoppers, and to a lesser extent horses. can't wait for this to sink in for the internet lawyer modder's rights "mah copyrights!" types. the butthurt will be massive I think.
  17. I think that's the part that applies to mods. the content bit seems to be talking about posts and whatnot like the game is some kind of message board or facebook or something. not sure what that's supposed to be about. the good news is that at least adfly is basically forbidden now. so that's a step in the right direction.
  18. indeed, I have seen it. it's out there. finding it shouldn't be too hard a task for an 11 year old, right OP?
  19. nothing notable has gone down on the forums lately really as far as PAINS or whalebox material, I am not complaining. it's hard to say if there's one particular cause, but I'll take what I can get.
  20. I came here expecting to just ban/delete this thread and move on. I got more than I expected from the experience.
  21. the whole point of technic as opposed to tekkit is that technic is single player only. there's no longer such a thing as "single player only mods" at this point. it was made obsolete by version 1.3 of minecraft.
  22. take a look at what's in the current tekkit for starters. though the problem with this idea is the constant state of flux that most mods are in. by the time you finish writing a book on any given one, it's been updated and now you're giving out incorrect info
  23. if you're looking for some kind of support for something that happened on a tekkit server somewhere, you are barking up the wrong tree completely. no one on the technic team has the ability to mess with servers run by other people, and technic doesn't run any "official" servers. that means if you are looking to, say, get unbanned or get someone else banned from a minecraft server you are out of luck. if you're looking to get something done on the forums themselves. specifically THESE forums, then a mod like myself can handle it. we're not limited to what sections we can moderate here.
  24. I don't know enough about macs to give you any useful info, as I do not own one.
