diamondeye83 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Just that. It seems to be a decent amount of effort to install on a mac, and I dont want to get it if it sucks. I really like RP, RC, and forestry, to i was thinking about giving it a shot. Quote

Moderators Maiden Posted June 13, 2013 Moderators Posted June 13, 2013 As far as the pack goes, it's basically technic with a few slight changes, so whatevs, play that if you prefer it's all good. Quote
Teraku Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I personally prefer Tekkit, as they seem to put more effort into their packs. I avoid the Mindcrack pack simply because of GregTech. As for the DW20 pack, I might as well play my personal modpack, they're basically the same. Quote
poryy Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 No it isn't. Why? Because it's FTB. The same as technic. But without our glorious originality. And it's founder is a moron. Quote
theprolo Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Quite honestly, the Technic Platform probably wipes the vast majority of bonuses of FtB out completely, since they're mostly mods. As it is, there's not much you'll get from FtB which you can't get just as easily, if not more easily, by just looking through some of the Platform packs and picking one you like. Quote
Teraku Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 That's another huge plus for me: The platform. I doubt FTB could ever trump a move like that. Quote
poryy Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 That's another huge plus for me: The platform. I doubt FTB could ever trump a move like that. Meanwhile in Slowpoke's evil lair: Slowpoke: *Goes to sourceforge* Slowpoke: *Highlights technic code* *pastes Technic code* Slowpoke: Introducing the revolutionary new FTB platform! The independently developed platform is capable of distributing modpacks from anywhere without downloading ANYTHING! Millions of Butt Farters: YAY! LET'S GO SPAM TECHNIC ABOUT IT! KakerMix: *Gets shotgun of diplomacy* Quote
Teraku Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I wouldn't be surprised if FTB came with something similar to the Technic Platform, but with one small twist or something. Quote
planetguy Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I would be surprised if FTB made something like the Platform. Their whole deal is about respecting modders' permissions and allowing anyone to make and distribute a modpack would require a lot of effort to check permissions and approve packs. Quote

Well then, no platform for FTB. Their main "thing" is that they have "modder support 'n shit". Quote
holymage! Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I wouldn't be surprised if FTB came with something similar to the Technic Platform, but with one small twist or something. and that small twist would be pennies for the modders him by pennies i mean like $0.25 for a modpack.... I would be surprised if FTB made something like the Platform. Their whole deal is about respecting modders' permissions and allowing anyone to make and distribute a modpack would require a lot of effort to check permissions and approve packs. your right, which means that they would have to check EVERY modpack that went through there including updates i would think.... the only reason i EVER used the FTB pack was so i could "play along" with direwolf Quote
okamikk Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Actually ftb is developing a sever api anyone who should be allowd to run a server most likely can figure out ow to build server files... Quote
Teraku Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Actually ftb is developing a sever api But what would be the point? What would they make that's somehow sorely missing, yet not already possible right now? Quote
Isigiel Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 But what would be the point? What would they make that's somehow sorely missing, yet not already possible right now? No point at all, that's the point. They copy solder most likely Quote
dwwojcik Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 the only reason i EVER used the FTB pack was so i could "play along" with direwolf Me as well, but that didn't work out for me because of LAAAAG. My fps average at about 25 on any ftb packs, while nearly identical packs from here average around 45. Another reason for me why Technic is better. Quote
Teraku Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I see the performance argument tossed out many times, but it honestly doesn't make sense. Maybe it has to do with how much RAM is allocated by default by both launchers. In all respects, if you were to put FTB's mods into the Technic Launcher, your FPS should be identical to your FPS when using the FTB Launcher. Quote
dwwojcik Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Very weird, I imported both Tekkit and FTB into MultiMC, allocated 2 gb of RAM, and guess what! Tekkit: 50 fps, FTB: 20 fps. It must be some mod. I dunno. I have tried allocating more RAM to ftb. Quote

Quote
Al3xthegre4t Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Plus the ftb launcher looks crap compared to the new technic launcher and the technic launcher is easier to use too. Quote
Jay? Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 FtB launcher has some nice things. Adding and disabling mods is easier. Quote
dragonshardz Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 FtB launcher has some nice things. Adding and disabling mods is easier. And that's about it. FTB launcher is pretty ugly, in my opinion. Quote
Jay? Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 And that's about it. FTB launcher is pretty ugly, in my opinion. I agree, but adding/disabling IS a pretty big thing. Quote
