Let me help you with that wall of text.

  • Technic was a single-player mod pack.  Since 1.3, single player is pointless.
  • Tekkit Lite has several mods that never got updated, so development was discontinued, and it has stayed at 1.5.2
  • Forestry will never be added back into a mod pack made by the Technic team.  However, there are plenty of packs on the platform that have it.
  • You repeat yourself a lot.  It's not helpful in getting your point across when your paragraph is twice as long as it needs to be, and you have no coherent organization of your ideas.
  • None of the stuff you suggest will happen.  The Technic Launcher is not dead, and probably won't be for a long time.

Okey-doke.  Truth be told, 1.4.7 and 1.5.2 are pretty similar from a modding standpoint, and I haven't played Big Dig in a long time.  But yes, you're correct on both counts.

On the contrary, from a player's point of view, the difference betwen 1.5.2 and 1.4.7 is drastic.  1.5 was an update with pretty significant gameplay changes in vanilla, with an ore in the nether (finally) and several new redstone-related blocks and mechanic, especially hoppers.  As a Tekkit player, the change was even greater.  Not just a new pack, but a new direction for Tekkit, with previously essential mods being replaced.  The time between Tekkit Lite 0.6.5 and Tekkit 1.0.0 as well as the hype built up surrounding the latter packs release contributed as well, so, um...

...yeah.  Just sayin.

I started a new topic under the name, "the technic launcher's future", I hope you read it and I hope you don't take it offensivelly or in any other way than adivce and information on what I think is going on.

What I meant was some of the Mod packs say they are available for the 1.7. I am relatively new to running a mod pack and when I downloaded Craft Mine the only available version is 1.6.4 & I found this a tad bit annoying. So I posted the question is there a way to force the technic launcher to update to the 1.7 launcher? This was before you released your twitch video so I will wait till the new launcher comes out to play Craft mine in 1.7. Sorry for the inconvenience, I was just looking for a way to play the mod pack in it's latest version.

1.7 is available on the launcher for modpacks to use, but you still need the updated mods.  Chances are 'Craft Mine' has mods that are not yet 1.7 compatible.

Then I am confused. Under settings for the mod pack "CraftMine" it shows 1.6.4 as the latest, but in their posting they say they are 1.7.2. I don't know any more, I will just go back to the B-Team Mod Pack at least it ain't as confusing as Mod packs claiming they are 1.7 but it confuses me cause I don't know what to do. As frustrating as it is I prefer just to forget and move on. This just reminds me of how frustrated I was over a stupid chisel not knowing there were 3 different types for the B-Team mod pack. In the end I just feel stupid and laugh it off when you learn the truth in the matter.

On the plus side I really enjoy these mod packs. Thank you.

the version numbers under the settings for modpacks DO NOT relate to Minecraft versions, these numbers are set by the modpack authors

It is possible that the modpack versioning is already at "1.7"

I would speak with the creators of Craft Mine.

So when will there be a launcher that only needs the name of the pack to be able to install it instead of the full technic adress?

Or am I totally wrong assuming that all packs start with "http://www.technicpack.net/api/modpack/" and then ending it with their own special name? If so it just seems strange that the launcher doesn't just ask for the mods special page-name and then just fill in the rest of the address itself.

Just a thought that I probably placed in the wrong thread..

Modpacks require a unique "slug" which is what you see at the end of the URL. While this is derived from the name of the pack (by default) you can subsequently change the pack name and the slug will stay the same.

Uhm. Yes, I know.

Let me refrase it: Why do we have to paste the hole address when we add mods instead of just the "slug" since the address before the "slug" always is the same anyway so what's stopping the launcher from just adding that part by itself? :)

Because making it easier for people to type in the identifier just makes people scream about it being broken when they mistype something?

It's best to copy&paste the pack identifier anyway, so why add extra code to merge strings?

Also, the launcher is open source. Nothing is stopping anyone from creating their own platform and hosting their own pack index. If/when that happens, the technic launcher is perfectly capable of using that alternate platform.

I like their launcher, it's works fine for me. But lately, for some reason it can't remember my user name and password. I don't know why, but every time I load it up, it asks for it again. I hit the key to remember it, and it doesn't remember it, which pisses me off.  :P
